SaintPeter's Hockey Prayer Thread

In my view, the leaves are far too successful as a biz to have any real desire to win, so they won’t.
How do you mean? Win or lose they have a solid fan base that are obviously not going anywhere. A franchise win would only bring in more money and possibly a new fan or two. The merch alone would pull in millions. So how is it not in their interests?

My view is hardly new or novel.

The arena is sold out forever in advance with nearly 90% being seasons tickets.

Seat prices have gone up 2900-6000% since 1985, though the team has had a perennial record as losers since 1968.

The parent company MLSE is structured much like new york’s MSG Inc… sold out seats across several sports plus concerts.

The majority shareholders price gouge on tix, merch, food and bev and record record profits.

so, it doesnt matter if the leafs win or lose… their stupid fan base will still pay.

Winning just means higher salaries and higher expectations, neither of which generates more profit.

Get it? Its been working since 1968.

In other cities, when you lose, fans stop buying.

Toronto fans are stupid.
Lmao, I prefer the term loyal. You're right, it is big business but I still don't see shareholders going nope don't want them to win it's going to ruin our profits. Either way win or lose, the Leafs make money. Hey, don't knock those corporate seats, the Swiss Bank has seats right behind the bench. Nice. Hard to see the game tho.

Watched the Monday night game on Prime; Messier was a little stiff, needed notes, hopefully he’ll loosen up.

Liked the behind the net camera view; the tv lighting at the Bell Center is possibly the best in the game.

I think mtl could use some bigger players if they want to go up against the western teams, but their set plays and possession skills are pretty good.

You make more money selling across various platforms, eh? Prime pisses me off with their monthly subscriptions then playing one episode of a show a week. And ads. Like, wtf?
Just watched the highlights. The Habs are looking good. Do I think they'll make it to the playoffs? No. They definitely need some muscle but damn are they fast! And Slafvkosky is finally hitting his groove.
Price makes a really good talking head.

Rogers paid 5.3 Billion for Cdn Nhl tv rights, which was retarded.

Its why a hot dog costs $30 or whatever at the rink.

Sharing the pain with Amazon in the last year of that deal makes sense

Who’s going to be stupid enough to pay more next year?

Rogers is rebranding. They bought out Bell's shares in msle. There's a death knell for cable tv; sports was the last bastion for cable, everything is on streaming sites and I bet Amazon will pay Rogers a tidy sum for viewing rights.

The NHL gets the money when the contract is open again next year, not Rogers… Rogers sold part of its access to Amazon for this last year of the current deal, which yeah, may be a hint at whats next.

Tripped by Al Arbour.
Orr scored a bunch of goals during or after being fouled.
It’s hard to find a really good quality highlight reel of his skills, but he was so talented he could have played in the NHL at 14, had his mom said yes.
Much like McJesus, when Bobby picked up the puck behind his net… you watched, because he was always always awesome to watch and unlike other players.
I’ve met him a number of times including a full round of golf and he’s also just a really pleasant person to be around, with a twinkle for a good joke.

Fuck those playgrounders and their "nice" hockey thread, ain't nothing nice about hockey. I'd rather be belligerent all by myself, tyvm.
My introduction to hockey came during college. I was raised a southener and it was more about football. My college roommate was the QUIETEST, nicest, sweetest girl. Very polite and kind to everyone. Her parents sent her to school with something novel at the time -- a small television set that had headphones. Her family was originally from the Boston area. I learned she was very passionate about hockey. She'd sit on her bed with the tv and the headphones. I'd be studying. All of sudden she was start hysterically SCREAMING at the television: "KILL HIM! HIT HIM!" on and on. I wondered what demon had possessed my sweet little roomie. After a few minutes of that, I'd tell her to unplug the headphones so I could hear what all the commotion was about and she enlightened me. It was so funny.

They are frustrating to watch this season. You don’t know what you’re going to get when they are on the ice.

So much for rallying. I don’t remember when I’ve seen a Bruin’s team that seems so unprepared. I understand that Swayman isn’t getting a ton of help in front of him but he’s being paid to stand on his head a bit more than he has.

Ya, they usually dominate the division and Swayman put a lot of people's backs up holding out for so long before signing an extension. Sometimes what's left unsaid is the problem so it would probably be in their best interest to hash it out. That being said if you want the big bucks you better back it up, amirite?
