Masterbation, sex with blow-up dolls or other sex toys, dream sex, astral projection sex (hey why not) all pretty safe.
abstinance isn't foolproof either. I can choose to abstain and still be raped. How is that safe? Then again, it's also not 'easy' and it's not 'used' properly every time. Everytime I had sex for the first year, it was a 'slip' it wasn't going to happen again- I was abstaining. I didn't need birth control, because i *wasn't* doing it!!!! Is it any wonder that I ended up pregnant?
some STD's can also be spread through non-sexual contact.
also, reasons I never hear against teaching abstinance only:
1) ok- so teens should abstain.(lets agree on this for the sake of argument) since when do we teech kids *only* what they will use their teen years? HS is about the only time anyone ever gets any kind of formal sexual education at all. They should be tought the basics of taking care of themselves NOW, for that point in time when they will* need and be able to use it.
Every adult should know the *facts* about birth control, what it prevents, what it doesn't, how reliable it is and how to obtain it- as well as a host of other things about their bodies that most folks are shockingly ignorant about. The best time to learn that is *before* you need to know it.
It just dawned on me. The conservatives used to fight to keep sex ed out of schools all together. Having lost that battle, they are now calling it by a different title. Abstinace only sex education is just another way to keep real sex ed *out* of schools. To bad there are so man more who will fall for that than there are who would fall for the old, 'kids should learn about sex at home not a school' (sure, from ignorant and embarrased parents who don't want to think about it, let alone talk about it.)
