The more I find out about Russia, the more I'm ready to pack my suitcase...

Russian citizens who are over eighteen years of age can own civilian weapons. Guns may be acquired for self-defense, hunting or sports activities only. Russian citizens can buy smooth-bore long-barreled firearms and pneumatic weapons with up to 25 joules of power. The use of long-barreled weapons for purposes of self-defense is prohibited.

An individual cannot possess more than ten guns unless part of a registered gun collection, guns that shoot in bursts and having more than a ten-cartridge capacity are prohibited. Carrying permits are issued for hunting firearms licensed for hunting purposes. People who acquire firearms for the first time are required to attend six and a half hours of classes on handling guns safely and must pass federal tests on safety rules, and their background is checked. Gun licenses are for five years and can be renewed...

If guns are your thing you're better off in America with the info you just dropped.

No offense intended but you don't know what you are talking about. However if you insist I will trade you citizenships and even buy you the plane ticket.

That's what I thought....this fuckin' moron doesn't realize US has way better gun rights.

Unless he does.... -__-

I admit I know nothing about Russian law that wasn't posted up here but other than a few pockets of the US those laws are pretty harsh by comparison. I should know better than to read what Renard has to say though.

Hand guns are mostly illegal in Russia and most firearms are illegal within the borders of most major cities. Get caught carrying a handgun in Moscow and you will be imprisoned. The police in Moscow will not hesitate to beat you up and there is very little fear of reprisal for their actions. Stun guns are carried by many and are legal but if you use one you better be able to justify its use. Anybody thinking Russia is freer then America has never lived in Russia. I live in America now and this is a great country.

He thinks the rights and liberties Russians don't have is worth it for all the gaybashing they get to enjoy.

Russia is up front with their rights and KGB spying. in America we have the obama telling people that the American KGB aka CIA/NSA do not spy on American citizens....which is a complete obama LIE

According to Wikipedia, Russia allows private gun ownership to a relatively less restricted extent than most European countries. Obviously it has more limits than the US, but I have no problem with that. I support a middle ground on the issue anyway (not a gun owner myself, but a staunch believer in the human right to possess firearms, though not without some reasonable limits).

Are you saying the Wikipedia article is inaccurate and if so in what ways?

Do you speak Russian? It ain't an easy one.

I took a year in college. I can read Cyrillic, but normally can't understand what it means. I can tell the Russia poster's sig says something about a big manekin.

I am decent at languages (not great but ok), with immersion I'm sure I could pick it up given some time.

The point is that Russia has more permissive gun laws than the UK, Canada, Australia, etc, unless the Wikipedia article is completely wrong.

Also, when did you leave Russia? How long have been away?

how exactly is that less restricted..it sounds like the complete opposite

Not less restricted than in the US, but not one of these countries that tries to stop people from owning firearms for any purpose other than hunting.

so mandatory background checks are nessecary in the US?

US citizens have to undergo mandatory training for firearms?

US Citizens are restricted as to how many guns they can own?

Are you turning into Jen? At least you used to make some sense.

I said it wasn't less restrictive than the US, but that it still allows private citizens to own guns for reasons other than hunting unlike many countries in the world.

I answered them.

Russians have the right to own guns subject to certain regulations, unlike say Mexicans who have almost no right to own a gun or Canada where one must be an active hunter.
