This may seem like an unlikely place to ask a question but this crew has never steered me awry in the past, so…
I’m scheduled for a marathon in the first week of November, with a goal of sub 3:20:00. My training plan started in mid June and I’m 2 weeks from the start of my taper.
I subbed for someone in a relay race two weeks ago which added 25 miles to my regular running week and resulted in an IT band issue.
I’ve been stretching, massage gunning, and downing ibuprofen, but it’s not getting better. I managed 18 miles today but it hurt the whole time and I was 30 seconds/mile slower than usual.
My question is, should I slow down, cut my mileage, or stop running entirely until it gets
