Runaway Princess (closed for Jekyll)

Charles felt eyes on him and turned. Seeing the girl standing there, all the memories of last night rushed back to him. He immediately dropped the sword. Realizing she had been observing him for some time, he picked it up again and started to wield it loosely, like an amateur. He was sure she could see right through her facade.

Finally he sheathed the blade and walked back up to her.
" Good morning, wife"
He grabbed his tunic and put it on again with a grin.

Once again Gen blanked out for but a second forgetting where she was and who she was with and looked confused at him for a minute then remembered that she was pretending to be his wife. She smiled at Charles, "Hello, dear husband."

Gen walked towards him, "What's for breakfast this morning?"

Goodness, she hoped it wasnt stew once more? She didn't think her delicate stomach could handle that stew again.

Good. His jest had made her forget his skill with a blade. He looked her up and down in. He had been right about her beauty in the night. She was beautiful, even with her hair messed up and her dress torn. She looked ...regal...somehow.

He was a little taken aback at her question. Normally in these circumstances, she would be cooking and cleaning, firstly because she was a woman, and secondly because she hadn't brought anything with her when she had escaped from the king. It was a marriage for show, but it had all the right mixtures of a real one. He would have to be the provider, and she would be taking care of the house, or in this case, the camp site.

He let it slide this once, not wanting to upset her after the ordeal she had gone through last night. He looked pointedly at her torn dress,
" You'll need new clothes. We'll have to go into town soon. My supplies won't last long with two mouths. "

He didn't answer her question about the breakfast. Charles wasn't sure if he should leave her here to go and hunt.

Genevieve did notice that he hadn't answered her question on what was for breakfast but maybe he didn't know or maybe he hadn't found breakfast or maybe...it was stew and he didn't want to discourage her....but she was just a "peasant" so that couldn't have been it.

"Yes, I guess we should find new clothes although you needn't have to rush and find me new clothes in such a hurry, I'm used to wearing these rags..." Gen said

Charles was sure she was apprehensive about going to town because the king might be looking for her. If he had his heart set on having her, he would have offered a reward for her for sure. He wasn't about to let some greedy citizen inform on her just so that she would be raped and tortured by the wicked monarch. He would have to go into town alone, but not before scouting the surrounding area to make sure she wouldn't be in danger when she was alone.

"Okay then. I'll go hunt us something to eat. I'll be back by lunch. You can have the leftover stew for breakfast if you want. "

With that Charles touched her shoulder gently, and went inside the tent to gather his hunting gear.

As Charles walked into the tent Gen grimaced as she looked at the pot, stew for breakfast. It wasn't what she was hoping for but it would do...for now she supposed. At least it wasn't what she normall had for breakfast right? It wasn't roasted lamb or toast or hash browns.

Genevieve realized that she was nearly drooling over her thoughts of the palace food and quickly wiped away the drool and spooned out the stew.

"Bon appetite." She muttered to herself.

Charles picked up his bow and quiver, and went off into the forest. He strung his bow as he walked, whistling a tune to himself. It was a fine day for a hunt, and he would enjoy some fresh meat too.

Soon he came upon the stream. He lay down behind some trees and waited, an arrow ready on his bow. He kept shaking lightly, so that his limbs wouldn't go numb. Soon a group of boars came to the stream to drink. Charles waited till they were at the stream, and then he fell one with an arrow through its eye. As the others ran away from him, he picked up his kill and made his way back to the camp.

Gen, hearing noises coming towards her nearly dropped her bowl of stew but gave a sigh of relief when she saw it was just Charles. She smiled at her 'husband'. "You've got meat, I see!" She wanted to shout to the heavens but resisted for she didn't want to seem ungreatful.

Instead she finished up her stew and handed him his, that she had made earlier before he left. Truly, she would've made an excellent wife, had she stayed in the palace.

Charles dropped the bloody boar on the rock beside her. He washed his hands with the canteen and took the bowl from her hand.
" You do know how to skin a boar right ?"

He handed her his hunting knife and sat down, enjoying his stew. He was sure that she didn't know how to, but she looked like one who would never back down from a challenge. He'd enjoy watching this.

Skin a boar? She had never skinned a boar in her life but most likely all peasants had skinned a boar and if she didn't know how to skin a boar then that would give away her disguise. "Yes..." she said softly.

When he handed her his hunting night she wanted to hand it back for it was bloody as was the boar which made her want to puke but she swallowed it back. For that too would give her away. She had no idea how to begin started scraping the tail...that was the tail wasnt it? Oh my.....

Should she start skinning the buttocks....dear lord...did that look disgusting...no sooner did she start to skin did her stew start to come up her throat and she had to stand up and go behind the bushes and puke.

Charles was feeling horrible. He just made her throw up. He wasn't as smug as he was a minute before. He grabbed the knife and started skinning the boar, his head down, intent on the work. More than once he cursed himself for his jest, and when she came back he couldn't make eye contact with her.

" I'm so sorry miss...Lily. I shouldn't have asked you to do that. I know you must have never done that in the castle. The king's cooks would take care of such things. I merely wanted to joke, though now I realize it was in bad taste. Please forgive me for my bad humor. "

IC: "I-it's alright.." Gen said "What's life without humor.." She wiped the puke from her lips and forced at a smile at Charles and stood up. "Really, I am fine. You don't need to worry about me." She really should've been angry, any other princess would've been angry and honestly at first she kind of was, kind of but it was sort of funny, in a sense, kind of. Well, she knew she would probably be laughing about this years to come at the very least.

The sat silently. Him skinning and gutting the boar, and she watching him. Soon the meat was ready to be cooked. Charles grabbed a branch and poked it through the carcass. He then put two forked stakes in the ground on either side of the fire they had built yesterday. He rubbed the stones and the wood soon caught fire.

The aroma of meat soon filled the air, and Charles kept rotating their meal, until it was cooked evenly. It was well past afternoon then, by the position of the sun.

((OOC: For some reason the pics aren't loading on my browser. Can you send them to me in a PM ?))

OOC: Princess Genevieve : Picture her with the bun
http://usera.imagecave.com/cafecafe/CharismaCarpenter-CordeliaChase.jpg

"It smells delicious." Gen said as she twirled her dark her around her fingers which had started to escape her bun. She gave him a kind smile. It amazed her how this man was not married he seemed so...so kind and charming. Wasn't that all that mattered in the long run? Who cared if he no money and nothing to take of his wife.....she let that thought linger in her mind for a moment before brushing it away quickly, it mattered not.

Charles was still a little ashamed at his rude hoke earlier. He put out the fire with some dirt, and tore a leg from the corpse. He offered her the meat, sprinkling some salt on it.

" I know it isn't what you are used to. But this is all I have to offer. "

He was sorry that he couldn't provide her with something better. But until they could go into town, they would not get much better food than this. Maybe she could wear a disguise into town. He tore another leg and started nibbling at it himself, aware that he was in the presence of a lady.

Gen started to take a bite then paused. Wasn't used to it, had he found out already"? It was because she couldn't skin a boar wasn't it?! Oh dear oh my, what was she to do? She didn't dare say anything! What if he didn't know?! What if he did know?! She bit her lip scared out of her wits, then slowly took a bite. "It's delicous.." She forced yet another smile for the umpteenth time today.

Charles wasn't sure of she was just saying that. It surely tasted delicious to him, for it was fresh and hot. But he couldn't tell if she was being honest about it or not. Never mind, it didn't matter.

" Thank you. We wouldn't be able to finish it now though. You can wrap it and keep it for dinner tonight. It'll taste even better with some honey. I have some in the tent. "

Gen frowned, "Alright.." They were leaving already? She didn't like the traveling life. Couldn't they stay for just a bit longer? She wrapped up her meat. If they were leaving she hoped it was somewhere further from her fathers kingdom.

She gave a small worried glance towards the castle. She would certainly have to becareful now because in the next few days there would be posters up with her picture up which means she would have to lead Charles far from this land, if she wanted to deceive him any further.

(( OOC : I didn't say they were moving. Oh well. ))

Charles finished his meal, and got up. He started gathering the tent, stealing glances at her all the while. They'd be traveling in the cover of the night, so as to escape notice. He had all the information on the royal family he needed, and he wanted to see what defenses they had at towns farther from the castle. If Charles would need anything more about the castle, he could always ask Lily.

After about half an hour, Charles had everything wrapped up in two bundles, one small, and one quite large. He obliterated any signs of their camp, covering everything with leaves and dirt. He noticed her looking at him.
" So that none may find you.", he explained.

"We'll wait till it gets dark before we leave. "
It would still be an hour before the sun would set.

((OOC: Lol, I know you didn't say they were moving but she assumed that they were moving because shes inexperienced with life on the road...))

She sighed, so they really were leaving, she nodded to show that she understood. She watched as he obliterated the dirt then explained his doings then looked at him in question and once again nodded in understanding. She yawned silently as it got later and later. She wanted to go to sleep. Why couldn't they rest? Around this time she would be in her nice comfy bed in the castle? No! She had made her choice! It was either the woods or the castle and the prince whom she knew nothing of and frankly she would choose the woods over a stranger any day; no matter how nice a bed sounded.

They walked and walked. Only stopping when either of them needed to relieve themselves. Finally just before dawn , he stopped. They were a good distance away from the castle, and he thought they had earned a rest. They weren't near a town yet, so they'd have to travel again later.

Charles stopped her. She looked almost ready to fall over. He took the small pack from her and sat her down on a rock while he set up the tent. Everything looked ready and he was about to start a fire when suddenly, it started raining. Both of them immediately rushed inside the tent, which was a poor shelter but a shelter nonetheless. On one hand he was glad of the rain, it would obliterate their footprints, but on the other, he wondered how they were going to sleep.

It's raining...she thought with wonder. She wanted to go outside and dance in it! That had always been a dream of hers. Surely, no one had ever danced in rain, that wasn't practical but still... she had always been trapped in the palace walls, confined one might say.

Dancing in the rain would be a show that of not being confined..freedom. "I suppose, we'll have to wait to travel then?" Gen asked as she looked up at Charles.

He smiled at her, " We will. I suppose we can go out and bathe ourselves in it. It looks like we both need a bath. "

Charles was jesting again, to lighten her mood. He was still feeling a little guilty about making her throw up and he wanted to see her smile again, make her forget the memories of Phillip trying to get to her. But it was true that they both needed a bath. The blood from the boar had matted on his hands and clothes, and she too looked dirty and a but unclean.

For a moment, the princess in her made her freak out but she giggled nonetheless, "Are you certain?" She said playfully"It could the newest fragrance, called..." She looked thoughtful for a moment, "Outdoor Ardour?" She looked serious for a moment then couldn't refrain her laughter, "I suppose bathing would suffice."

Charles laughed with her, the sound hearty and booming inside the small tent despite the lashing rain all around. He stopped suddenly when he noticed how beautiful she looked when she chuckled.

Regaining his composure, he said, " There must be a stream or a lake around here somewhere. If it keeps on raining like this there will be several new ones. We'll find one before traveling tommorow night. One good thing is the rain will keep the sun out of our eyes as we sleep the whole day, eh ?"
