Runaway Princess (closed for Jekyll)

"Yes, I suppose it is a good thing!" Gen said with a smile. He certainly was handsome when he laugh and how nice it would be to bathe. She felt soo icky. Though it had been but a night it felt like ages since she had a proper bath.

She could just imagine how her composure would be in the next week or so without rain,a lake, or a stream. No, she would be fine. She would keep calm. She would force herself to be calm.

Charles stifled a yawn. He was embarassed to bring it up, but it had to be discussed.
" I'm pretty tired after all the travelling. We'll have to share the tent today Lily. I give you my word that I wouldn't try to even touch you. "
He looked deep into her eyes and said it with whole hearted sincerity. Anybody could have seen that how serious he was.

Gen froze when Charles mentioned sharing a tent. Of course she had been fine the night before so why not tonight? Though they hadn't shared a tent the night before. Then again, Charles certainly couldn't sleep out in the rain, he could catch some sort of illness. She nodded, "Of course, you can't sleep out there...in the rain...how foolish." She smiled at him.

He handed her a dagger from his belt.
" This my lady, is for your protection. Keep it on you at all times. You never know what kind of beasts roam around the jungle and the castle walls. And you can use that against me too if I behave beastly. "

Charles smiled and offered the hilt to her, his hand on the sharp blade.

Gen stared at it wide eyed, she had never used a dagger before but she supposed if need be she would have to learn. She smiled and nodded. "But I doubt I will need to use it on you. After all, we're only going to have to sleep next to one another. It isn't like you're going to ravish me." She smiled at him."I trust you, besides had you wanted to ravish me...you would have done so already right?"

Charles was enjoying the flirting and tension building up between them. But he didn't wan to overdo it, lest she get offended.

" Don't be so sure Lily. You are a beautiful woman and when your black locks fall across your face like that it might make any man lose control. "

He clasped his mouth, afraid he had overstepped his boundaries.

Gen flushed and looked unable to say anything further. Had she been in the castle she would've been able to say, 'you've overstepped you're boundaries sir, goodnight' but out here she was but a poor peasant girl and for all this man knew she could've been an impure peasant. In fact, she was a peasant who was almost raped by King Phillip!

Afraid that he had maybe offended her, Charles was unable to look her in the eye. He whispered.
" Good night. Or good day rather. Sleep well."

He turned his head and closed his eyes. The nights journey had tired him out completely. Soon he was asleep, his tired slumber peaceful and dreamless.

"Good night..."Gen whispered back as she too closed her eyes. Oh why couldn't he have been the prince that she was supposed to marry? If that had been the case then, she would have had no problems marrying him. Of course, she hadn't even met her affianced so who was to know that she wouldn't have been able to marry her supposed husband. She gave a small sigh and turned her back. It was all in the past now, she thought as she drifted to sleep.

Charles woke up when the sun was high in the sky. The weather had cleared and the smell of moist earth hung densely in the air. Even more pungent was the odors coming from their bodies. The smell of dirt, blood and sweat filled the air inside the tent.

It was time to get up. They had spent the whole morning sleeping. But he couldn't bring himself to rouse LIly. She looked so peaceful and content.

Gen was dreaming of life as a free person, not as a princess, or of being in the castle but of how she was now, with Charles shockingly enough. She even dreamt that he fell in love with her and asked her to marry him....one day for she did just meet him and falling for him now would be much too soon, though he was very handsome. He had very rugged looks and did have noble personality. It was quite intriguing. She moaned softly as her eyes fluttered opened.

Charles averted his eyes as hers slowly opened. He blushed, realizing that she had seen his gaze upon her. He muttered, " Good morning Lily. I'll go and check out if there's any water nearby. You remain here. I'll be back soon."

He trudged outside and went off in search of a lake or a stream. He trekked through for half an hour before he found a beautiful waterfall, falling down in a small lake. He bent down and drank the cold liquid, also refilling his empty canteen. Satisfied, he hurried back.

Meanwhile, Gen tried to make her hair look somewhat presentable. She wasn't sure why. It wasn't the man actually cared what she looked like. She was certain he had much more important things to do than to court her. She blew the strands of hair out of her eyes.

If her ladies maids were there, they'd know what to do with her to catch a guys attention. Yes, like put it in some ridiculously high bun that looks like a honey comb isn't that attractive? she thought cynically. No, her hair looked much better down.

Charles took much less time to reach back than he had taken to get to the waterfall. He was worried about leaving Lily alone for too long, otherwise he would have taken a bath before coming back. He reached the tent within minutes and handed her the canteen of cold water.

" There's a waterfall and pond not far from here. We should pack up and move there for the remainder of the day. We can travel by night again."

"Alright.."Gen said as she slowly stood. She stretched some and yawned giving Charles a small smile. "Did you sleep well?" She asked softly smiling at him as she awaited his answer, they had both went to bed on a very awkward note and she wanted to show him that she wasn't the least bit upset with him.

How could she be? He had complimented her and it had just shocked her was all.

" Yes I did, how about you ? "
He averted his eyes as she stretched. Her torn dress hung to her upper body and it was very hard not to stare. He started packing up the tent, talking to her all the while.
" Sorry about last night. I didn't mean to say that. It just....came out. I apologize. "
Not looking at her and having something to do with his hands made apologizing a lot easier.

Gen clenched her fists so she had been right last night. He hadn't meant the things he'd said to her. Why should he? He barely knew her, Genevieve forced a smile and nodded. "Yes, its alright. I figured as much. Being tired can cause randomness i suppose.." She would not allow herself to cry. Princesses did not cry! At least she learned something useful from the palace.

Charles was a little disappointed that she hadn't taken his blabbering compliment seriously last night. But his face hid his disappointment well. He finished gathering all of their stuff, handing her the small pack while hoisting the large one himself.

" Follow me. Be careful what you step on Lily. There are some sharp rocks in the ground on the way."

"Alright..." Gen said, though she was still hurt by his words so she felt that he really didn't care if she did fall on flat on her face and break her neck. After all, I am but a peasant. If he knew I was a princess he would..he would, well he wouldn't be treating me like this!!! she thought angrily though he wasn't really treating her badly at all.

Charles walked ahead, glancing back from time to time to see that she was following him. They travelled over the rocky terrain, and after twenty minutes the land started to rise. The waterfall was on the other side of the hill. He offered her his hand whenever they came upon a outcropping or loose rocks. He was more used to riding a steed. He was a knight after all, and only lowly footmen went about without horses. He was willing to sacrifice that however for his kingdom and Lily's company.

For someone who didn't find her the least bit attractive, he certainly seemed to looking at her alot. She shook that thought away, he was probably checking to make sure she was alright. Gen sighed, not really paying attention to the next slippery rock she stepped on she nearly slipped and fell quickly she grabbed onto the closest thing....

He almost lost his footing as she grabbed onto him for support. He had to wrap both his arms around her and pull her tight to keep her from falling. Suddenly he realized that she was so close to him that her breasts were being crushed against his chest. He blushed and let go, and she stumbled back a few steps before regaining her balance.

" I'm...I'm sorry....Lily. I..just keeping from falling. "

Genevieve blushed as she felt herself pressed against him. He had pushed her back so abruptly that she almost lost her step. God, was she so terrible looking? Obviously, her reputation as one of the most beautiful princess' was a lie if a peasant wasn't even interested in her. She bit her lip looking down.

"N-no, it's my fault. I wasn't paying attention to where I was walking as I should have been. Otherwise, I wouldn't have fallen...almost, right?"

Though she couldn't push the thoughts away of how right it felt to be in his arms.

Charles couldn't believe how seductive she looked when she bit down her lip. He would have to control himself around her. Otherwise she may yet have use of the dagger he gave her.

Soon they were at the waterfall. He refilled their canteen and dropped the pack near the water's edge. He saw her looking at it with joy in her eyes.

" So. You like it ? Would you like to go first or should I ?"

Genevieve looked at the water as if it were a heaven sent. She had never seen anything so beautiful in her life. She smiled in wonder at the waterfall. This also meant she would be able to get clean.

Suddenly she snapped out of her thoughts of how beautiful the sight was when Charles had said something to her.

" So. You like it ? Would you like to go first or should I ?"

She didn't want to seem selfish but she did so want a bath and quickly. "I would like to go first...if you don't mind, of course."
