Anybody have any experience with this little miracle pill? Seems there might be a need for it in my immediate future, even though this wasn't ever supposed to happen again...

RU486 is, as I understand it, only really effective is taken within about 72 hours of intercourse. You need to see a doctor and get a prescription NOW rather than waiting for advice here if RU486 is to be any kind of option.

Actually, according to the website of the company that gives the prescription, it's effective up to 7 weeks after the last period. Just depends on doseage and such.

I worked with a student (adult) who had unprotected sex close to her fertile time. She chose to take ru486. The clinic told her she should take it within a few days. They quoted some literature dealing with implantation sorts of issues. She took it about 4 days after the sexual encounter. She reported experiencing mild cramping and bleeding very similiar to her period. She was told to take tylenol for the cramps and to take it easy. She was back into her regular routine a couple of days later.

I'd recommend you consider a couple of issues-
-check whether your pharmacy will fill the script. some won't. If yours doesn't, you may need to find an alternative.
-the longer you wait, the more complicated the issue could become. Some pregnancy tests claim to be accurate within days of unprotected sex. If you took one and found out you were pg, then lots of issues will come to the surface for you.
-some conservatives think conception begins at fertilization. If they catch wind of you getting the pill, they might harass you. (sad isn't it) Some stake out clinics for this stuff.

Finally..... ((((((((((((((((maeveo)))))))))))))
I can't imagine how you are feeling right now but thought the hug might help!

 Why not just take the Rx to another pharmacy? Unless she's living in a real backwater there's no need to hunt for an alternative -- maybe just an alternate pharmacy.

That's right; the 72 hour limit is for Plan B/ the Morning After Pill.

I don't have experience with RU486, but did read a couple of articles recently regarding serious complications and deaths associated with it's use. I'm not saying that to scare you, I just want you to have enough information to make an informed decision. If the risks of the drug outweigh those of a traditional, early-term abortion, (and I don't know if they do -- it's something to research and discuss with your doctor) I'd go with the latter, personally.

Here are the articles, and more can be found on Google, obviously; just make sure the info is coming from a reputable source, as I noticed a ton of misinformation and propaganda sites masquerading as legit:
