Ropework photos

I like the use of the mask. Creative stuff. I also hit your Fetlife profile, and liked what I saw there.

Help!

I am 800km from my rope, and I am headed to my first ropework demonstration on sept 26 (exciting stuff)

Both fortunately and unfortunately, its partially a hands on demo and the participants are requested to bring 'several lengths' of rope to use

It seems I must go buy brand new as I won't be home until Christmas. So, opinions on what lengths, material I should go for? (preference for cheap quality) (if that isn't an oxymoron to an extent Lol)

The best compromise I've found for cheap and still usable is nylon/poly blend in solid braid. Stay away from pure poly unless it's MFP, but that is not as likely to be available. Pure nylon twisted rope is okay, but tends to come loose and fray pretty easily.

I'd just grab some masking tape to dress the ends temporarily. Wrap the tape where you want to cut, and leave it on after you cut it. If you have a heat source, and are using nylon or poly, you can heat the ends and then cut it, or cut and seal the ends, depending on heat.

As for length, lengths of 20-30' seem to be the most handy for me. Erm, 7-10m for you metric types. If I had to make a minimum kit and didn't know what I was going to expect, I might go for 2x10m, 1x7m, and 2x3m (ie 2x30', 2x20', and 2x10'). The longer lengths are great for torso ties, the mid lengths are general use, and the short stuff works for restraint work. For my own use, I tend to just work in 10m lengths period. Sometimes it means I have too much rope for a given tie, but that has never really been an issue.

Thanks very much for the input Homburg. I have mostly 20-30 foot lengths myself but as I am 98% self taught, going to something 'official' I figured an actually knowledgable opinion of someone who had an idea of what to expect would be an awesome idea.

I was right! winks

Thanks again, I hope to come back with pictures.

I look forward to it. I'm largely self-taught as well, with my only "instruction" coming from how-to's on the web and a book or two. I've gone to one educational demo what included a bit of bondage, but, while good stuff, wasn't a style that I found useful, so I didn't really absorb the info presented on specific technique,

I went to see the knotty boys a few yrs ago when I lived in SF and it looked like something I wanted to try because it was a great show. The only experience I have with rope are sailing and girl scouts' knots LOL :p But I do love your photos. They are perfect :) You have skilled hands, no question. This is now one of my favorite threads here

Thanks for the compliments, but, well, the thread's pretty dead these days. I'm still playing with rope, but not so much in situations that are friendly to photography.

Glad to hear that you enjoyed the thread though.

That's really cool, and some great pics as well. I'm really glad to see it.

I've been asked recently to do a demo on suspension. Makes me a bit nervous, as I'm comfortable enough stringing a bottom up, but I am not good enough by my own estimation to teach someone else.

Thank you!

I know what you mean by suspension and the responsibility in teaching it.

Why don't you do partial suspensions? The one I was on my knees it felt quite "suspended" anyway. Or other forms of "one leg" ties?

But if a demo is just like a show and you are not doing hands on teaching, just go with the flow and make sure to put up the usual disclaimar "kids, DO NOT try it at home".

:rose:

That is basically what it is going to be. Here is what I do, don't try it at home.

Bumping this thread once again to report on another great rope experience, this time with Master K, author of The Beauty of Kinbaku.

I've written up the whole experience on my blog , but wanted to show a couple picture just for Lit.

The tying my look rough and unclean in the first one, but part of it was the fact that being the first time he was meeting and tying me, he was learning my weak points and figuring out my tolerance to bondage. And by the last tie, the ropes where definitely tighter and cleaner.

Anyway, it was a great experience!
I had a huge smile that lasted for days :D

The tie on your leg in the first picture, at Shibaricon this year Zamil (who, by the way, is an AWESOME DUDE - http://www.kinbaku-art.com/) taught that tie during a class about efficiency of movement when rigging, and I love it. What an awesome tie. It's super simple, but it involves all this wrapping and closeness, of both the rope to skin, and of Top to Bottom. Mmmm.... yeah. I gotta get tied up again soon.

I love that tie too! Tight and close and bounding. Mmmmmmm
(even better on naked skin :D )

Here is a closer view :)

Yeah, that tie rocks. Gotta suggest to Seb that he incorporates it into some play soon. Maybe a suspension? Mmmm.

It was used by the guy I did the photo shoot and the video to put me standing on my knees (both legs tied the same way). In the photo shoot my hands where tied to a suspension point , while during the video they were tied behind a pole and behind my back.

And I can picture how cool would it look in a suspension! :)

Was it hard to be standing on your knees? How long were you like that? I wonder how long I could hold a position like that.

My weak point are my wrists so I always end up that my wrists hurt more than anything else (carpal tunnel sucks). It also helps if you are kneeling on a somewhat soft surface such a tatami or a carpet. Both in the shoot and in the video I was not left for long, perhaps 10 to 15 minutes, and in the video though, because I had my back against a pole and my toes against a surface it was much more comfortable (I could have stood there much longer with no much discomfort to my knees).

In another occasion I have been put in a similar situation on a concrete floor and I can tell you it was much harder. Luckily I was allowed to rest my knees by putting my toes on the ground, and that time I was kept tied like that well over 30 minutes, close to 45. And even there, the biggest problem were my wrists.

(I now finally know what to do for my wrists :) )
