Rock Concerts

I just felt the need to share, so please bear with me.

Last night, hubby and I went to see Matchbox20, Everclear and Lifehouse in concert. The music was fucking fabulous and the bands put on one hell of a show. Rob Thomas(Matchbox20) is one very talented man, and his paino playing reminded me of a younger Elton John.

It has been at least ten years since I've been to a "rock" concert and I was completely stunned at how things have changed. No smoking...no alcohol...strictly assigned seating...no standing at the "fence". I was a bit disappointed. I mean the music was wonderful and it was a thrill seeing the bands, but I couldn't help but notice it didn't seem to have the energy of the old days. I mean over half the arena remained in their seats the entire night. GGGRRrrrrr!

Have concerts really changed that much or is it just this backwards ass town I live in?

Have any of the rest of you "old" rockers noticed the change?

lol, well that does sound different then the last one I went to, but then again it was Pink Floyd and there was drinks hehe

I think its where you live, i admit that i don't go to seculrar rock concerts but this backwoods town does have christian rock concerts and i don't think there is any sitting all night long.

brazen- i have tickets to see that show in 2 weeks...glad to hear you enjoyed it...i can't wait!

It was GREAT!! I would go see them again in a heartbeat. Though the next time I think I'll go in a city that isn't so lame.

It must be the town..

I went to the Poison/Cinderella/Dokken/Slaughter, Motley Crue and AC/DC shows last year and people were just as nuts as they used to be...albeit the spandex was a bit overstressed on a few....LOL

I think it is a function of music type also. The bands you mentioned are a bit more cerebral and less "partytime". Could you really picture Rob Thomas having a naked groupie party behind the drum riser?

LMAO...no way could I picture the naked groupie party behind Rob Thomas, the man is just too "together".

I understand they aren't the type of bands for the ol' panty slinging, yet the crowd still seemed to lack "energy". I guess I will chalk that up as another reason I can't wait to leave this town...I think that brings my reasons up to about a thousand. LOL

It's not the town...

its the venue, or at least the all-seated vs. standing room tickets are. It's the insurance policy and fire regulations of that particular hall, arena, etc.

Now, if people STAY sitting in their seats, then... might it be an age thing? Age of the fans at Metallica vs. Tom Jones?

No offense but I think the subdued atmosphere has more to do with the Bands. The inoffensive soft rock has never been one to get folks rowdy. A band such as Radiohead, who played the ACC last time they were in town(Which has assigned seating) will get people out of their chairs(although I know Radiohead isn't the greatest example of a rowdy band)

Jesus...except for AC/DC where did they dredge up enough spandex to clothe all those bands?

Been to a few of those, myself, Todd...

Though the sitting vs standing there all depends on what church you're in...

LMAO...actually the Crue wore leather...I was referring to the crowd attire....a lot of these people seemed to have been to Burger King a few times since the late 80's/early 90's....For a similar picture go to Wal Mart on any Saturday...

I go to the most consonservatiove convention baptist churches, where if you breath funny they look at you suspiciously and these concerts were all standing , the only sitting concert i went to for christian music was like a recital deal

on a side note in the church service they make me sit in the back cause i like to raise my hands from time to time and it "disturbs" the other members, we wouldn't want anyone getting moved now would we ;)

LOL!

I know EXACTLY what you mean, Todd!

We went to see Phillips, Craig and Dean this weekend. They were wonderful, except just a bit too much "canned" music for me--live singing, taped everything else--but everyone in the audience was so polite and proper, only stood when they were told to.

It's sooooo frustrating--I mean, we'll jump up and whoop and holler all day long for our favorite sports team...

Exactly, these same people who won't shout an amen you go over to thier house to watch a sports games and they are jumping up and down, screeaming and hooting and hollaring and chomping at the bit. Its a shame that they can't get as excited about the God they supposidly beleive. I know the feeling about canned music sort of takes away from the whole deal
