((What can I say? I'm a sucker for a little romance with a twist.))

Kayla raced down the field with speed and grace. A defender was hot on her tail, but Jayla picked up speed. She quickly switched the ball between her long, toned legs causing the defender to trip up. She set the ball up and kicked the ball full force into the net with the goalie seconds behind. She did a little victory dance before calling her team over to explain the next practice drill. She used the sleeve of her shirt to wipe her brow and tuck a loose strand of auburn hair behind her ear. "Ok... the next drill is a straight sprint to the other goal.....", she trailed off as she noticed a group of male soccer players carrying equipment walk onto the field. The girls seemed to tense as they saw them. Kayla shook her head and murmured, "Dammit! They always do this!"

Kayla is the captain of the Lady Spartan Soccer team at Ridgemont Academy and their rivals just happen to be the Men's soccer team at the same school. They've never like each other and always compete for better season records. Kayla has a long time rivalry with Caleb Macey, captain of the men's team. They used to be an item until he cheated on her with a girl on the rival team. Even his teammates don't understand why he did it because Kayla is the hottest girl in school, but they support their captain anyway (don't they always?). Kayla still has feelings for him, but she swore to herself she wouldn't let him in again.

Kayla walked confidently over to the other soccer team and said, "This is our practice time. You guys have a field so get off of ours."

((This is a story about Kayla and Caleb and anyone else who wants to join. Or it could be something different, but I prefer there to be a little romance. We'll make up the rest of the history as we go. PM me if you're interested.))

Caleb knew going on onto the field, there'd be problems. Already, she came out to meet him, like some hure train, refusing to derail, on a crash course. He only gave a sigh, as the guys behind him began to laugh and nudge each other.
"I know," He said, his eyes shifting to her nice form, wonderful breasts, he missed them, he missed her, even, part of him still wanted to hug her, pretend this drama was all just some weird dream.
But, it wasn't, he just stood there, awkward for a time.
"The coach said we could use the field, or at least part of it. They're doing some weird rally shit for the school over on ours. See."
There were banners and balloons on the far horizon, where bleachers rose against a field. From the far distance a band could be heard.
"Anyway, you know our game's up in just a couple of days. We need the field. Sorry..."

John Harris strode out onto the field amid the rest of the men's team. The dressing room had been full of expectancy as they were told that they had to kick the women's team off the one available pitch. He'd been quickly brought up to speed, as he massaged embrocation into his calves, that the two teams didn't exactly have the best of relationships with each other.

Everyone turned to Caleb and started telling him, "you're the captain, it's your job to tell them..." Once again, John learnt quickly about the tense relationship of the two rival captains.

John picked up some cone markers and a ball and the team's boots clattered on the concrete on their way out onto the pitch. He drew in the warm air; this was a bit better than England, he thought and was pleased he'd won the competition as an exchange student. It did mean that he missed out on training with the Premier League side back home who had financed his trip keeping an eye on a propective candidate who was potentially an international player; indeed one of such promise that they didn't quibble with his decision to finish his higher education before starting his full time playing career.

A player of promise - and he knew it. It informed his leisurely stroll onto the pitch, his slightly arrogant swagger. Combined with his black haired, blue eyed athletic good looks his slight vanity was perhaps understandable.

He stood in the crowd of players watching the captain's confront each other and looked around, eyeing the other women. Yes, another good thing about being here was that women's football was much higher profile; he was certain he was going to enjoy hsi time at the Academy.

Kayla just stood in front of the group of guys, showing no emotion. The snickers from the group didn't bother her at all. She was used it it. All the whispers from the team since she and Caleb had split up.

As Caleb explained the situation, her thoughts drifted to how they used to be. They were inseperable and it seemed inconceivable that they would break up. They understood each other and were there for each other. And of course there was the physical attraction. He was gorgeous and she couldn't deny it even though she tried. All of it blew up in her face in one week. She got asked to attend an All- Star Soccer camp in California and although they talked everyday, he couldn't take the space. She came home a day early and all she could think about was going to see him. She went to his dormitory and up to his room, but his roommate said he had gone to see her. Obviously, the roommate had now idea that she had been gone for a week. After a little investigation, she found out where he was. She caught a taxi and went to an address she was given. She felt guilty for spying on him, but she peeked in the window anyway. She was shocked by the ..... position she found Caleb in. She ran up the stairs to the house and pounded on the door. She could hear them scrambling for clothes. A tear ran down her face as the mystery girl came to the door with Caleb's soccer jersey on. Kayla lost and knocked the girl into the wall then marched into the living room. She ripped his ring off the chain around her neck and threw it at him. "Bastard!"

She cringed at the thought and just said, "Fine. You can practice on that side of the field." She pointed down to the opposite side. "But the first ball that crosses into our territory and you'll eat it. And tell me the newbie how serious I am." She nodded to the newbie before launching one of their loose soccer balls onto the other side of the field. She turned and headed back to her team, gathering up their balls and starting the next drill.

Caleb gave a small smile, licking his lips. He turned back to the rest of his team, his arms spread.
"See guys," He said, loud enough, "I told you she still liked me."
They set up easy enough, next to the goal. Cones in place, drills to be run, soccer balls flying every which way, and team members running like hell after them.
Just a regular practice, nothing wrong with that.
Except, Caleb was distracted. He couldn't concentrate much on the practice, or anything else. Every so often, he'd just slow down, stop, and look over at the girl's team, practicing, trying to find Kayla between the crowd. She seemed so easy to spot, the most beautiful one.
An idea popped into his head.
"Hey... brit!" he called John over, "You're one of the best... you think you could send a ball flying over there, get her attention. I want to see if they'd play a match against us."
This could work... this might work.
Who knew...

John was pleased to get on with the practise; he loved the game and everything about it, even the gruelling training. He was in a circle of four players watched by the coach as they passed the ball to each other, keeping it in the air, only allowed one touch to pass it, when he heard his captain.

"Hey... brit!"

John caught the ball on his instep and balanced, looking at the coach who gave a short gesture with his thumb towards the captain as he called John over. Passing the ball to the next player John left the circle.

"You're one of the best," said Caleb, "you think you could send a ball flying over there, get her attention. I want to see if they'd play a match against us."

John smiled and took the ball from Caleb's hands. The girls were practising free kicks by their goal. A wall had lined up and Kayla was just stepping up to try and curl one over the players in the wall and into the top corner of the net.

John set the ball down and stepped back. He gave the ball spin and power and just as Kayla was about to kick her ball, his shot flew into the goal just where she was aiming for.

"You mean like that cap?"

Kayla

Practice was running smoothly enough except Kayla wasn't on her game with Caleb on the same field. She glanced over at him a couple times, but turned away quickly when she noticed him looking.

"Ok, girls! Let's line up! Rapid Fire!"

All of the girls lined up in front of the goal and readied their ball. Kayla lined up her shot and prepared to shoot when a ball came whirring over their heads and into the goal. Kayla kicked the ground in frustration and then launched her ball into the goal. She turned around and walked to the midfield line, ball in hand.

The girls had followed and the team now made a line on the midfield line. They each laid their ball on the line and stepped back. "Rapid fire!" The girls launched their balls one by one at the guy's team, nailing a few of them. Kayla took her shot, nailing Caleb in the stomach causing him to kneel in pain.

It took Caleb a minute to compose himself, but when he did, he couldn't help but laugh. She still liked him. He could see it in those ugly hard lines on her face. This might be good. She usually made a mistake when she was mad.
Nice.
"You seem to do all right standing in a line, but that doesn't prove anything in a match. What say we play a little scrimmage, my best against your best? You wanna have a little fun?"
He grabbed a soccer ball, dropping it in the middle of the field, and motioning for his guys to line up accordingly.
"... unless, your scared of losing."

Diana had tried so hard to perfect herself and her game, so when she missed kicking the ball into the male exchange student from England she cursed herself up and down for her error. She was suppose to be perfect at this game. When Caleb threw the proposition of a game against the guys, Diana was all for it.

Diana was a complete athlete. She was tall at 5'9", slightly tan, her body finely toned but not extremely skinny. Her hair was chestnut and eyes dark brown.

She grinned at the exchange student thinking You are all mine. She turned around to look at Kayla to see what she would say about the game.

Nick Simmons was the starting Goalkeeper on the Ridgemont soccer team by virtue of some astounding reflexes. The reflexes had been dulled down a little of late as now, in his senior year he had become something of a pothead. Nevertheless he remained one of the top players on the team and his genial nature kept him well liked. He was a little on the short side, at about 5'8 and had gained a couple of pounds recently so that he could now be described as a little pudgy. He had a bit of a baby face and a mop of messy brown hair.

He was, as usual, a little late for practice and rushed onto the field just in time to hear the challenge Caleb made.

"Yeah, you know, it might be fun to let you girls see what a team that actually, you know, wins the odd game looks like."

John laughed at the stunt the girls pulled and saw one or two guys jump around as they got hit on the ass - and in more - sensitive - areas. As he chuckled he was aware of a ball slide past close to his shoulder and looked over at the women to see if he could work out which one it was who'd aimed for him.

it wasn't hard to spot the girl grinning at him, hands on her hips as she walked forward. They both heard the challenge from Caleb and the final taunt, "unless you're scared of losing."

He grinned back at his auburn haired opponent, hoping he'd get the chance to play with...and against...her. He looked at the women's captain, waiting.

"Scared of losing? To who? You? You're funny." Kayla chuckled and shook her head.

Kayla glanced at Simmons and said, "Hey Simmons! You think we need lessons from you. Count the trophies."

Kayla picked up at a nearby ball and walked over to Caleb. She grinned and shoved the ball into his stomach. "Take it. Let's get this over with."

She jogged over to the bench and pulled her hair up into a tighter ponytail. She removed her shirt, revealing a spaghetti- strapped shirt and a sports bra.

Caleb had some guys move the cones, and excess balls off the field, getting it ready for a nice friendly game.
"Ok guys, huttle up. I just want to say, break a leg girls... don't break a nail out here. We're just playing for fun, all right? Good game to all."
He imitated Kayla's voice, near hysterical when he had finished. He had everyone line up on their usual spots, a good team, a strong team.
This would be interesting.
He left the middle for her, "Ladies first... Kayla. Just hit the ball... it's the round thing in the middle of the circle."

Kayla smiled and shrugged before kicking the ball full speed into his chest. She quickly retrieved the ball as it bounced off Caleb's chest and carried it up the field.

She dodged defenders and glance back to see Caleb hot on her tail. She crossed the ball across the field and pulled back for the pass.

Diana lined up waiting for the kick and couldn't help lauging as Kayla kicked the ball into Caleb. As Kayla retrieved the ball Diana started to weave between the guys trying to get into the best position. One eye on the goal and the other on the ball. That was always the best strategy for her. She watched carefully as Caleb was hot on Kayla's trail. Diana tried to help her captain out by getting close to the goal and waiting for the best time to make her move. The only other thing that might get in her way was her aggressive nature. She had once knocked a girl down so hard that they had to call an ambulance...man was that a bad idea. She shook her head and tried to concentrate on winning, which she was sure was going to happen.

OOC: A bit of a character change. I think my guy would be more fun as a bit of a jerk.

IC: Nick ran back to his crease steamed. Kayla's little trophies comment just reminded him that while the girls had won back to back state titles, his own squad lost a heartbreaker in the finals.

He looked on as Kayla began weaving in and out of his defenders. Concerned, he began barking orders

"Tackle well, not hard Jack" he shouted as one of his defenders missed a sliding tackle on the girl's captain "Watch the cross, 22, watch the cross" he shouted at the player whose name he had forgotten.

Soon Kayla had set up on the left side of the field, she was out of position to score but Nick had noticed, the leggy brunette creeping up on the opposite side of the box. Kayla struck what would have been a perfect crossing pass if it hadn't been for Nick stepping in front and smothering it. After he caught it he stepped up to Kayla.

"Yeah, I can count trophies. I also remember you guys lost last week to Fair Oaks Prep. In fact, I seem to remember you" He said as he pointed at her "Losing a lot of things to Fair Oaks." That had been a low blow. Both teams know Caleb had cheated on her with a Fair Oaks player while she had been at soccer camp and while Nick had been loathe to rub that in, the best way to throw Kayla off was making her mad.

"Hey Frenchy!" Nick shouted to John, who he had taken to calling French "Score a goal so we can get back to some real soccer" He booted the ball downfield to the Englishman as he returned to his net.

John patrolled the halfway line, keeping onside and saw the keeper's well-judged pass. He took it on his chest, expecting a tackle from his marker but she stood off him long enough for him to turn and slide the ball between her legs and run after it down the right wing. He looked up and hit a pass into the centre, where Caleb was arriving in the opposition's penalty area...

Kayla had done such a great job going down the field, that when the ball had turned back, she was miles behind him, and he stood there, running up, grabbing John's pass, and scooching around two of the defenders easily.
"Here we are then," He faked it once, as the goalie jumped to the far side, at a ball that never went. Instead, it lay at his foot, and once the goal was open, he kicked it in pathetically light and wimpy, it bounced and trotted in, no one even close to it.
Giving his team a forceful round of support, he ran back to the middle, congratulating John and the rest of his team.
"Keep an eye on Kayla. Don't let her force her way in like that. You know how she gets when she's angry."
One of them snickered, "I bet you do..."
"You guys have no idea. There were times, when I hoped she did lose. All that anger and passion, it gets released in other ways. But, come on, enough. John, check your girl. That should leave us an opening, and we can take it again."
Caleb moved out to the middle again, a cocked smile as he looked at Kayla.
"Well, my dear, want to try that again? You're supposed to kick the ball into the net... ok? you got that?"

When Diana had seen the failed attempt to make a goal and heard the goalie's remark it gave her some fuel to try and run back down the field but she knew once Caleb had the ball in his possesion it was a goner. She sighed then turned around finding the Englishman close to her. She listened to Caleb give him instructions and the comment he made to her captain and she practical growled, her eyes snapping sparks. She almost wanted to fly after him and kick him in the balls. This game was not going at all as she planned. It also didn't help that she kept noticing the Englishman's cute ass.

Kayla jogged back to the line, a little disheartened after Caleb's goal. She was upset that she got tripped up, but it also made her angry. When Kayla got angry, she was a totally different player. She was fierce and more defensive.

She was up to the line and wiped some sweat off her brow. The ball was put into play and she immediately stole the ball. She dodged defender after defender with ease. She passed the ball back to keep onside and set up for the kick. The defenders were ready and came running towards her. The ball was passed back to her and before the defenders could get to her, she killed the balled over the defenders and a diving Nick into the goal.

She didn't celebrate with the rest of her teammates. She just walked back to the line, with no emotion on her face. The comment that Nick had made about Fair Oaks had hit her hard.

As she reached Caleb, she said, "We're tied. I don't wanna do this anymore. You guys can have the field..... for now." She walked off the field, leaving her things and her shocked teammates there.

Kayla went back to her dorm and laid down on her bed. She buried her face in her pillow, but she didn't cry. She was way past crying. She pulled something out from under her pillow. It was a picture of her and Caleb after she had won the last state championship. They looked so happy. Kayla thought about that day. Kayla had been a little sad because she thought Caleb wouldn't be able to come to her game because it was so far from the school. When they arrived, Caleb was sitting on their bench with some roses. She sprinted over to him and kissed him. It was such a great day. That night when they returned from the game, was the first night they ever had sex. Kayla was convinced that the happiness was never going to end.

Kayla cringed and tossed the picture into the garbage.

A stunned Nick watched as the ball eluded his outstretched fingers and as he hit the ground he knew he had let in a goal. He had been totally unprepared for Kayla's kick. He never believed she could have struck the ball well.

He angrily stormed back into his net to pick the ball up. As he did he noticed Kayla dejectedly storming off the field. He walked the ball back up to Caleb.

"Well, Cappy, like I always say, if you can't beat em on the field get inside their heads, right?" He said as he flipped the ball back to his Captain. He then grinned as he looked onto the remaining girls on the field.

"Alright Lady Spartans, back to Home Ec you go. Real soccer is about to take place" He jogged back to his goal and caught sight of his defenders. He chuckled as he ran past them

"Getting deked out by a girl" he laughed, loud enough for all to hear.

John watched from the half way line as Kayla left players in her wake and curled the ball into the net. He didn't exactly applaude but he saw how good she was. Now for someone that good to just walk off the field, something must have been eating her. He sighed, upset at missing training and now no game to play; he was sure the others women wouldn't want to carry on a player down.

Scanning the confused looks among players who, like him, didn't overhear the brief conversation between the captains, his eye came to rest on Diana's shapely form. Nothing to lose, he thought as he walked over.

"Shame about that," he said to her, "looks like we're done here for now. You play well. Been in the team for long? Fancy grabbing a coffee after we get changed? I'm John and your...?" He smiled.

It took Caleb a moment, watching her go. She seemed hurt, beyond everything, angry and hurt. He'd thought she might have gotten over it a long time ago. Women, they never seemed to let anything go.
"Practice is over guys, get some rest. Tomorrow we're going to kick some butt."
Caleb didn't bothering changing or shwoering, he rather took a walk for awhile. First he went around the field, and then onto campus, stopped by the coffee shop a bit, didn't order anything.
He seemed to be mustering up enough courage to go and talk to her. He couldn't do it though, what could he possibly say that he hasn't said a million times before?
Nothing.
But, he went anyway. Walking to her all too familiar dorm room, and knocked on the door, tiny bird raps.
"Kayla... you want to talk?"
