Rivalry

Diana watched as Kayla left the field and sighed. Diana had never been in a relationship but knew that Kayla had to be all twisted inside so Diana jumped a little as John approached her.

"John? Oh um I am Diana. Been with the team a while, but not as long as some," Diana said looking again towards Kayla's back. "You aren't bad yourself but unfortunately I don't drink coffee. Fortunately, coffee shops have Chai. Any place in mind that we can wind down from the drama?"

She looked John up and down and smiled for once. She wondered what it might be like to get close to him. Would be nice to get away from the life of 24hr soccer.

"Diana, hi." She had a nice smile to go with the rest of her looks. He smiled back and decided to play the lost Englishman.

"Well, I've not been here that long, I was hoping you might know of a good place to go and get acquainted? I'm going to grab a shower and then we can head off?"

He hoped it would be somewhere intimate...

"There is a coffee place I go to in the next town that is quiet. It has several small rooms for privacy and they have the best prices and coffee. How does that sound? I could just run to my place and get ready and meet you back here. I can drive."

John smiled as he agreed with Diana to meet her. He went into the showers and quickly realised as he dried himself his clothes were his old sweatshirt and jeans. He hadn't planned on meeting someone to go out with here!

He stood around as the other players gradually drifted away and thought to himself that the small rooms of the coffee shop certainly sounded intriguing. His imagination suddenly went into overdrive and he imagined what they could do in a private room; he wondered if they would let them borrow cream? He laughed to himself as he heard a car horn and looked up.

It never took Diana long to shower and get ready. She believed in natural beauty. So when she showed up to meet John in her 1991 Honda Accord Ex she smiled at John who looked deep in his own thoughts then honked the horn.

Diana got out of the car wearing her only dress which was black and ended about mid thigh. It had a v-neck and spaghetti straps. It wasn't very showy but it always made her feel like a girl. Her long hair was pinned ontop of her head creating curls down her neck.

When she saw John's jeans and sweatshirt she laughed and walked toward him, "I feel over dressed," she blushed slightly.

"I feel over dressed," John noticed how she blushed slightly and smiled.

"Not for me," he said eyeing her black dress with obvious pleasure at the way it showed off her figure "you look great." He apologised for his appearance. "Think they'll let me in? Or maybe they have jacket's and ties behind the counter for scruffs like me?" They both imagined him in a tie over the sweat shirt and laughed.

As they walked towards the car John made for the same door as Diane and then said, "oops...you have left hand drive over here!" Turning to go to the passenger door he brushed against Diana and they stood and did a quick nervous dance, both going the same way a couple of times before he comically stuck out his hand as an indicator. "I'm going this-a-way..." He smiled and they got in the car.

They drove away from the campus and discussed what else they did besides soccer - though he kept on calling it football, "its proper name," he winked. "Me? I'm doing philosophy," he said, "when I'm not kicking a ball!"

They drove out along the malls and then into a brief run through countryside and John looked over to watch how the breeze from the open window had uncurled a few strands of Diana's hair and how they played around her neck, while he tried to listen to her description of the few sights they passed. He settled back in his seat and drank her in as they approached the coffee shop.

"Alright," Diana said stopping the car in front of a first floor home in the middle of a small town. "This is called the Magical Brew. A Wiccan couple own it. Trust me that half the time they don't know what goes on in here. Or they do and don't care. I once accidental walked in on a couple really going at it."

Diana exited the car, "But other than that they have the best chai and coffee around and a great atmosphere. Hope you enjoy."

Diana locked the car and started into the coffee shop trying to walk like a lady instead of running like a soccer player.

Windchimes hung on the porch. A couple of old chairs and a rickety table stood outside. As John's eyes adjusted to the dimmer interior he noticed objects from various parts of the world with magical conotations. They walked around looking at them as no one seemed around to serve them, though there was a rich aroma of coffee and incense in the air.

Voodoo dolls, African carvings, dreamcatchers all vied for their attention until finally a young man appeared beside them - waking quietly or by magic - and took their order of coffee and chai. For the time being they decided they didn't want to eat - evn the "freaky apple pie," he offered with a wink.

They continued their exploration of the house that seemed bigger on the inside than on the out. Diana showed John the doors that ed into private rooms, some of which were occupied judging by the laughter - and other, more intimate sounds - coming from them.

"Well, it's certainly an interesting place," John said, a little taken aback but hoping she had brought him here to investigate the rooms so he wondered aloud, "do you think any of the rooms have other objects in them like out here? Maybe we could find out?"

She smiled as he opened a large oak door, which gave a little creak and he poked his head inside. The window had a net curtain and the room smelt musky; deliberately so. It was filled with carvings of fertility gods and goddesses.

Kayla had been sulking for quite a while now. She jumped when she heard a knock on her door and heard that all to familiar voice.

"Kayla.... you wanna talk?"

She sat up in her bed and stared at the door for a while, trying to decide whether or not to let him in. Then she heard another knock.

"Kayla.... are you in there?" She finally sinced a little worry in his voice so she walked over to the door and opened it just a crack. She figured he'd let himself in so she sat down on her bed and looked at the door.

"Actually each room has its own theme, in a cense. I generally only come for the chai and then sit back in one of these rooms while its not busy and study. God that sounds lame!"

Diana looked over to John shyly, "I don't date...ever."

With that she entered the musky hall to another door which was standing open. She looked back at John with an open invitation then walked into the room.

John smiled to himself at the look of shyness on Diana's face and the slight blush that accompanied it. He followed her across the corridor to the other room. As they got there he took her hand and held on, stopping her in her tracks.

"Wait a minute," he said. "it's not that you don't date, ever. It's that you haven't dated, ever. Maybe you just haven't met the right guy yet?" He looked at her intently, moving close, his body hovering just away from hers as she leaned on the door jamb and licked her dry lips and looked up into his face.

"Maybe you need someone with common interests? Football? Studying?" He smiled. "You know, if it was me I might even give Chai another go." He bent quickly and kissed her cheek.

The door to the room creaked a few inches further open and they went inside.

Diana looked slowly about the dark room hung with dark red drapes, rugs, and furniture. Incense curled from the corners of the room and a slight waft of music came from the ceiling. A small round table was in the middle of the room with two chairs to accompany it. A love seat of the same dark red was perched next to a larger coach in one of the corners.

Diana nervously moved to the love seat and took a seat where she could watch John's movements and wished that her chai would show up soon. It always gave her some pep to be a little less quiet.

Diana coughed and smiled, "So where in England do you come from?"

Caleb moved cautiously into the room, still standing by the door. It hadn't been too long ago that he could come in without knocking, and knew every inch of this place. She hadn't changed it much, but he could sense a whole loss of himself as part of the room.

"I'm sorry," He said, not quite sure what else to say, "They guys can be jerks sometimes. They still think its some funny joke."

He didn't know what she wanted from him. An apology, or something more? None of it made any sense.

"I miss you..."

John moved slowly round the love seat, noting her question, noting her nervousness. Slowly he sat in the other side of the love seat just as the young waiter arrived. He thrust the coffee at John making him grasp at it quickly, spilling a little into the saucer.

Carefully, he handed the chai to Diana. "So nice to see you again," he murmured, still bending a little over her. "Not too hot?" he solicitously enquired of her drink.

John cleared his throat; the waiter jumped a little and wished them, "enjoy." His eyes didn't leave Diana as he backed out of the room.

"England." John said the word a little too loudly. Diana sipped her drink and looked at him.

"Well, I live in the south west. We have a town there that that this place would fit right into; very new age. But I'm signed with Manchester United for football. I guess you've heard of them?" He slid his arm along the back of the love seat, letting his fingers play over her back, arrogantly confident that name dropping would make her his quite soon. He sipped his coffee with a smile.

"I miss you..." The words seemed so unreal like it was a dream she had when they broke up. She had dreamed that she would hear those words from him.

A single tear fell down her cheek as she looked down at his feet. Her emotions were so confused and she didn't want him to see that. She just wanted to be angry with him. So she said the only defensive thing she could think of, "Do you miss her too? Or was she a fling? Maybe we were both flings. Just notches on your damn bedpost!" She stood up and walked across to the opposite side of the room.

"Miss me? I thought you'd be happy to be away from me. Now you don't have to hide who you're sleeping with. You can sleep with whoever you want and---" She stopped suddenly and tears streamed down her face. She slid to the floor and buried her face in her knees.

"I never knew what love was," Caleb said, sitting down on her bed, next to her, seeing her getting so upset over all this too. He could understand that, how many conversations did they have that ended up just like this?

Too many.

"I am sorry, and I know how stupid that keeps sounding, but I never thought I could love you. I didn't know how much I did love you until you left me. You and I were always such a good pair. Great conversations, always joking around, the best sex. I just... always had this macho guy act, you know? I couldn't let it go, I couldn't tell myself I was in love with you, cause that would mean I had some kind of weakness."

He knelt down next to her, holding her hands in his own, "But it isn't. Not having you in my life, that's the weakness. That's what I can't stand. I need you, Kayla, I love you. It took me some stupid mistake to realize that, but I do now. Don't take it away from me now, please... not after this."

He kissed her. A long passionate kiss, missing her lips for so long, her warm body pressed next to his, those long wonderful hours just touching and exploring.

"Yes I have heard of them," Diana began to really relax as she sipped her chai and with him touching her back in lazy strokes. "I was born and bred into this sport. Once I showed an interest really young, my parents went all out. Got me into the best school and program. They baby me. I guess that is another reason I haven't ever dated or had sex. I am sure you have though. You are too cute to not have."

Diana looked over at him under her eyelashes watching his reaction to the change in subject. Since she had met him she had wanted to get closer to him...to kiss him, touch him, and even had dreams of sex with him. That had been since he moved here. She smiled at him seductively shifting into a different mood she usually hid from people.

His fingers traced their lazy way up and down her spine as he listened to her.

"I was born and bred into this sport. Once I showed an interest really young, my parents went all out. Got me into the best school and program. They baby me."

Suddenly she become a coquette.

"I guess that is another reason I haven't ever dated or had sex. I am sure you have though. You are too cute to not have."

He watched her flirtacious gaze through her lashes. Her slight lean towards him and the girlish brushing back of her hair made him smile. Was her innocence an act? Whatever it was, that and her words signalled a desire that matched his own.

He looked into her eyes and cooly talked about his own parents, about the teams he played for as a kid, of signing deals with his club at 10 years old. As he did he kept her gaze and let his fingers trace up her neck, play in her ear, making her turn her head down and grin broadly. He pushed back strands of hair, his fingers gently sinking into it.

"I've dated, yes." He put his coffee down and shifted to face her a little more. Leaning closer he stroked her hair again his eyes flicking over her face, shoulders, breasts, back to eyes.

"As for cute?" He moved as close as the love seat allowed and kissed her shoulder.

"Yes, you are." His lips moved slowly to her neck.

The minute his lips touched her shoulder a thrill shot through her whole body. Was a simple kiss suppose to do that? Diana sighed as he moved his mouth to her neck. She arched her neck to the side so he could get closer and she unconsciously turned towards him.
She rested her hands on his thighs and squeezed as more pleasure tortured her to the point she began to moan softly.

Slightly out of breath she says, "That has got to be illegal and those are just kisses," she looked into his eyes. "I wonder what it would be like..."

Diana shifted quickly to sit partly on his lap and put her arms around John's neck. She touches his hair then his face lightly and slowly and softly tries her first kiss.

He kissed her and for a moment she was completely lost.

She wanted to hate him with all of her heart for hurting her, but truly she had missed him terribly. She would see him around school and she would see the girls drool over him. It tore her up inside to see that.

Tears streamed down her face as they kissed. Suddenly, she pushed him away. She was inches from his face and she asked, "Why did you have to hurt me to know you love me?"

She watched his face as he searched for an answer. He had a beautiful face. The kind of face you would see in magazines, but she wasn't in love with his face. She was in love with him and all she wanted to do was kiss him and be near him, but she needed to know the truth.

"I never wanted to hurt you... I never wanted to make you feel like you were anything less than what you are. You are everything to me. I just couldn't see that until you left. It devastated me, it destroyed me. I didn't care about anything. Soccer, drinking, my friends. Everything seemed lost without you."

He bit his lower lip, "I just want you back. I want us back. I want to love you again. I want to be near you. I just want... I just want everything to go back the way it was."

Kayla looked into his eyes and she felt so in love. She knew they could never go back to the way they were. She could forgive, but she couldn't forget.

"I wanna be with you more than anything. It's been so hard being without you. I felt so alone. Soccer wasn't soccer without you. I can't do anything without you there to cheer me on. I just didn't want to play, knowing you weren't there. But things can't be the way they were."

She looked at the disappointment on his face as he look down at her. She placed her hand on the side of his face and said, "I want to be with you. There's nothing I want more."

As she slid her body closer John supported her back with his hand, feeling her firm body separated from his skin by the fabric of her dress. Their faces were close as he drew his lips from her neck and saw her eyes meet his own and the slight hesitancy as her mouth gently moved to his. Her soft lips pressed against his and he let her explore her first kiss for him, their closeness emphasised by her arms around his neck.

Her hand around the back of his head caressed his hair as she deepened the kiss a little. Gently he took her lower lip in his teeth and suckled it into his mouth as his other hand moved against her thigh, urging her to slide fully onto his lap.

For long minutes they kissed, their mouths steadily becoming more eager, tongues touching, breathing deepening as John pulled Diana closer feeling the softness of her breasts pressed against his chest. He was enjoying the way she was moving against him as she explored his mouth, as she slowly began to explore her sexuality more deeply for the first time.

Caleb fought back something, he wasn't sure what it was, anger disappointment, maybe even love itself, but he couldn't bare to leave it like this, to leave her like this. She just looked so good, so warm, right there beside him.

He kissed her again, not wanting to care about the past, or forgetting or forgiving. He just wanted her close to him now, he just wanted her back.

"I'll do anything. I want you to. We can be good again, strong again. It won't be the same, but we can still love each other. I promise you. I promise I'll love you forever. If you want to be with me, if you really do, we can find a way to make it work."

He kissed her again, hard, letting his tongue slip onto her moist lips, tasting her for the first time in too too long.

"Please..."

Diana moaned at the sweetness and depth of the kisses. She was straddeling his lap, moving...rubbing against him slowly. Her hands moved from the back of his head to his chest underneath his clothes touching his skin. John was warm and she couldn't get enough of the feel of him. She slowly removed her lips from his.

"Wow. That felt good. John," she looked up at him with a specific question in her eyes.
