RIP Gregg Allman

He wasn't looking very good the last thing I saw him in.

Wow, he was only 69. He was just a kid with a very weathered voice back when the Allmans were riding high.

I played Midnight Rider at a gig on Thursday.

I'm glad I saw the Brothers at least once.

In Memory of Elizabeth Reed

I saw them twice. Once when all the original members were alive and again after Duane Allman and Berry Oakley were killed. When they were gone the band was never the same.

For my money the original band is easily one of the best rock groups in history.
The Live at Fillmore East album is a true classic.

I saw the 90s resurgence version of the bad, but still smokin'!

Fillmore East is the live record benchmark. I'm watching the video right now.

He did a whole lotta drugs. There were stories of them popping pills and washing them down with prescription strength cough syrup containing codeine.

Anything for a buzz.

I just heard from a friend who worked with him, who still has friends in the touring band. Seems the writing was on the wall and Gregg was in pretty bad health.

After Allman and Oakley were gone I stopped listening to any of their new stuff. They were a shell of their former selves.

Greg was fucked up on drugs and alcohol for a long time...enough so that he married Cher.

We should get isis to kill the rest of the allmen if theres any left.

In the late 70s and 80s, sure. But the "rebuild" in the 90s before Dicky's drinking was a total mess, and Warren Haynes playing Duane's parts the band was HOT. Later versions with Otiell Burbridge and Derek Trucks are kinda happening too.

That said, I wish I were old enough to have seen Duane and Berry!

I saw the ABB 15 times.. each show was absolutely spectacular. I've seen over 400 bands and they are my number one, and always will be.

RIP Gregg...you were truly a legend.

I'm watching a bunch of stuf on YouTube. That band was a force to be reckoned with!!!!

I know jam bands arent everyone's cup of tea, but good god they were so damned good. Every single musician that played with them was world class. Even Dickey Betts.
