Rest and Relaxation (Closed for DeliciousMaiden)

She cried out sharply as his hands moved to the tree. Her body naturally moved backwards to feel the rough bark pressed into her back. It was the solidity of that wood that somehow kept her on her feet as Derek's cock fucked her almost brutally, his strokes rapid and rough.

"Ohhh Godd.... fuckkk.. yesss... "

She moaned incoherently her moans rising as his mouth attacked her neck, that sensitive flesh sucked and kissed, the extent of his passion and their joint loss of control surely leaving marks on her pale skin.

"Oh-my-God ... Derek....!"

She moaned his name helplessly as he gave her the fucking of her life.
Her body was helpless as a puppet as the force of his strokes drove her up and down the tree. Her breasts rose and fell as she struggled for breath until finally she cried out, her voice carrying across the night air threatening to draw attention to their 'activities' as her body convulsed intensely in release as she came harder than she ever had before.

Maxine's cries of pleasure, combined with her exclamations of passion simply served to push Derek harder. The more he pulled from Maxine, the more he wanted to give her. It was a glorious circle of frenzied lust, a circle that had Derek's body building fast. He was barely aware of it though, because he was practically lost in what he was doing.

In the end, it was Maxine's orgasm, coupled with her near-deafening cry of pleasure that pushed Derek's body over the top. It took but one more stroke of his needy cock into her tight and convulsing pussy before his orgasm overtook him. He grunted and groaned against her neck, kissing and sucking all the harder as his hot seed spilled from him. For he certainly didn't stop what he was doing, but rather redoubled his pace, fucking her harder and faster until every drop was fucked into her.

Even when it was finally done, and Derek was forced to stop, his heart pounding so hard in his chest that it felt like it would burst, Derek still didn't retreat. He tore his lips from her neck, and let himself sag against her, pressing a soft kiss to her ear as he tried to catch his breath and recover from what they'd just done.

Despite the clear joy that both of them had taken in what they'd done, Derek felt the need to say something.

"I hope I didn't hurt you Maxine. I am sorry if I did. I just...I just couldn't help myself."

Derek didn't think that he actually needed to apologize, but he still felt the need to. He also swore to himself once again that he'd make it up to her once the two of them were finally free.

He fucked her through her orgasm and beyond. She was spent and near collapse by the time he had finally filled her with his cum. She felt his hot breath at her ear, his breathing as ragged as his own.

"I hope I didn't hurt you Maxine. I am sorry if I did. I just...I just couldn't help myself."

She was surprised by his apology and touched by it.

"Oh... Derek ... "

She could barely speak so dazed was she.

"That was .. incredible ... "

Her words were an understatement.

"I've never been fucked like that... cum like that ... "

She was truly stunned by what they had just shared.

" ... thank you ... "

She murmured softly, wondering how she could possibly cope with not having him around for the days to come.

"... every time we're together ... it's incredible ... and... I just want you more... "

The confession slipped from her lips.

Maxine's words brought a smile to Derek's lips. He let out a soft sigh of relief and pressed a tender kiss to Maxine's neck.

"I know what you mean Maxine." Derek started as he leaned back, putting a little space between them so that he could meet her gaze once more.

"I'd never even considered anything like this before, but for you, I was willing to not only consider it, but risk everything to do it."

Derek let the smile linger on his lips as he slowly shook his head.

"I've never felt like this with anybody...ever."

Though he was reluctant to do so, Derek forced himself to step back, sighing with dismay when his soft cock slipped free of the warm and wet pussy it had so thoroughly fucked.

"It pains me to say it..." Derek started as he bent down to pull up his shorts. "...but we should probably get back."

"I know what you mean Maxine."

He kissed her sensitive neck and leaned back gazing at her.

"I'd never even considered anything like this before, but for you, I was willing to not only consider it, but risk everything to do it."

She blushed. She had truly thrown caution to the wind and been unable to hold back.

"I've never felt like this with anybody...ever."

His words thrilled her. They hadn't deliberately snuck off to have a risky fuck, they just hadn't been able to stop themselves, so intense was their attraction. She groaned as his cock finally slid out of her abused pussy.

"It pains me to say it...but we should probably get back."

She groaned.

"For the first time in my life I don't give a damn about being professional."

She told him with a laugh even as she began to pull her clothes back into place once more.

"The sooner I get my business done here, the sooner... "

She leaned close and kissed him hotly, passionately ...

"The choice will always be yours Derek, but if ... this ... is all there is to be between us ... then ... it's been incredible and I wouldn't undo it for anything ..."

She told him finally drawing back and attempting to look less dishevelled in preparation for returning to their taxi.

Derek smiled and laughed along with Maxine as the pair of them started the process of trying not to look like a couple of people who had just fucked the hell out of each other.

"I would be lying if I said I didn't feel the same way. I haven't had to be as professional as you, but to say that my job and all that it entails is...stifling...would be an understatement."

The smile was still on Derek's face as he zipped up his shorts and snapped the button in place. Maxine's words had him briefly distracted, but it was hard to be distracted when she leaned close, quickly closing the short distance between them and kissing him with a passion that seemed all too familiar.

"Thank you for the options Maxine, but I feel like that choice has already made itself. I would be a fool to deny the chemistry between us, even if we've only known each other for a short time."

Only when the pair was finally as dressed and composed as they were going to get did Derek lead the way back towards the building that it seemed like they'd left ages ago. He had to make sure that the bill got paid, along with a proper tip before the pair of them headed back to the place that they both seemed to wish they could avoid.

The two were breathing hard as they attempted to fasten their clothes back into place. She was relieved that Derek felt the same as her about having to be professional.

"I would be lying if I said I didn't feel the same way. I haven't had to be as professional as you, but to say that my job and all that it entails is...stifling...would be an understatement."

She hadn't realised that he felt stifled by his current job; it was definitely a new concept to consider ... when she was thinking straight again.

"Thank you for the options Maxine, but I feel like that choice has already made itself. I would be a fool to deny the chemistry between us, even if we've only known each other for a short time."

His words thrilled her. She met his eyes and nodded silently. He had all but decided to go with her, to work for her, with her and to explore just what it was that they seemed to share between them ... chemistry hardly began to explain it.

Maxine took his hand as they picked their way back out of the bushes, smoothing her clothes nervously as they emerged. Her cheeks were deep pink from exertion, she could not risk blushing to further redden their hue. They managed to hold hands as they retraced their steps to the restaurant. A final squeeze of their hands as they drew apart to enter, she following Derek as he ensured that the bill was paid and dealt with practicalities.

Walking cooly beside him to step out of the front of the restaurant and slip into the waiting cab almost killed her. She leaned back against the seating and closed her eyes briefly biting back a sigh, only to open them moments later as the taxi pulled away and headed back to the hotel.

She wasn't the kind of woman who took such risks, who couldn't control her urges, her needs, but she found that she was unperturbed by her loss of control, in fact she marvelled at the fast and furious fucking Derek had given her and just how fantastic every second of that wild coupling had given her. She turned her head to look out of the window pretending to notice the lights and the sights whereas in truth she was hiding the curl of a satisfied smile. God, the evening had ended up to be the most incredible experience, yet even so, all it had done is make her want Derek more ...

The ride back to the resort was strangely companionable, or at least it felt like it to Derek, despite the fact that the two of them couldn't talk about the things they really wanted to talk about. Despite that though, Derek did the best he could to let Maxine know that he was thinking about her. It would have been far too risky for him to reach out and take her hand, but it seemed reasonable for him to part his legs just so, letting his leg just barely graze against hers and rest there as the two stared out their respective windows.

If the drive to the restaurant had felt short, the one back to the resort that the pair of them were both dreading seemed to literally fly by. It seemed to Derek that he had just sat down and moved his leg to just barely rest against Maxine's, and the next time he looked out the window, there were the familiar lights of the resort.

Once the cab pulled up to the front of the building, Derek exited first and moved around, giving a slight signal to the man standing at the door that he would take care of opening Maxine's door for her. He offered up a fleeting smile to her as she stepped out, and closed the door behind her.

"I hope you enjoy the rest of your evening Miss Chambers. Should you need anything at all though, I am at your service. So feel free to contact me." Derek said, offering up the same small and genuine smile that she had seen from him so many times before. Derek wanted to escort Maxine at least as far as the elevator, but sadly, that wouldn't be the direction he would be heading in, and he had to take care of the cab fare anyway.

With a soft and hopefully unnoticeable sigh, Derek turned from Maxine back towards the cab. Even after the far had been taken care of, he felt tempted to look back over his shoulder to see if he could catch even the slightest glimpse of Maxine, but knew as well that even such a small thing was risky when all eyes were upon her once more.

So, sad as he was to do it, Derek turned instead in the direction of the employee quarters and to the long and lonely shower that awaited him there.

Maxine sat beside Derek throughout the drive back. She longed to touch him, to kiss him, to have him touch and kiss her, but she could barely trust herself to look at him for fear of betraying her feelings and what they had just shared. She bit her lip as his leg brushed against hers, leaving that delicious contact link them for the duration of the journey as she stared sightlessly out of the window.

Derek managed to be the one who opened the door for her and assisted her out of the cab. Their eyes met for a brief intense moment and the smile he offered her was guarded and warned her more than anything else that all eyes were watching their arrival back at the hotel.

"I hope you enjoy the rest of your evening Miss Chambers. Should you need anything at all though, I am at your service. So feel free to contact me."

She managed to nod and somehow respond cooling.

"Thank you Derek, that was a most pleasant evening ... "

All her instincts were to laugh, to flush at the irony of her cool response. Inside she felt slightly hysterical, but she managed to bid him goodnight as he was obliged to take care of the driver whilst she headed towards the elevators.
The elevator came immediately giving her no chance to glance back in Derek's direction. She entered and let out a long breath as the doors closed giving her momentary privacy as she was carried up to her floor. She hastened to her room and slid in her key card, entering and then closing the door behind her and securing it before she cast her bag aside onto a chair and collapsed on the bed with a groan.

... Should you need anything at all though, I am at your service..

She replayed the words back through her head. God if only she could make good on that offer.
She would want nothing more than to summon Derek to her room, or better still to truly take him into her service so that there was no barrier to them truly exploring the amazing chemistry between them.
She had been fucked more thoroughly than she ever had been in her life and cumm over and over and so hard that the force that had literally been mind blowing.
Tomorrow she had to get down to her paperwork and clear it as quickly as she possibly could. The prospect of not being with Derek the following day was not a happy one, but it would be a means to and end ... and she could only hope that the end would be all they both imagined it could be ...

Derek lingered in the shower for a long time, sometimes standing so the water could pound on his shoulders, and sometimes just sitting down so he could relax under the hot spray and think. His mind was reeling, because of the events of these past couple of days. He'd done things with Maxine that he hadn't done with anybody in years, and he'd done things with her that he'd never even dared to consider, let along risk, and yet here they were.

Even when Derek finally managed to pull himself out of the shower, thoughts of Maxine lingered in his mind. He was lamenting over the fact that he hadn't dared to chance spending the night with her last night, and now here he was, alone once more. He gave a heavy sigh as he dried himself and headed towards his bed. As sleep finally started to take him, the last thought in his head was of how much things had changed for him in such a short time.

When Derek woke up the next morning, thoughts of Maxine were still in his head. This time though, they were tainted by the knowledge that he likely wouldn't see much of her today, and that definitely put a damper on his mood. Despite that though, he knew that he had to keep to his normal routine, lest people start to wonder about him, and about them.

So with another heavy sigh, Derek pulled himself out of bed. He didn't bother with a shower yet, because the first order of business in his normal routine was a run on the beach.

A few minutes later, and Derek's ears were filled with the sounds of the beach and the steady crash of the tide. Even as he ran though,l he couldn't help but wonder if Maxine would like to join him on one such run, and how much he might enjoy the company in this ritual that felt suddenly lonely. The thoughts of Maxine were distracting to say the least, but Derek didn't realize quite how distracting they were until he finished his normal distance in what had to be a record time for him. He'd been running faster than he normally did, and he was gasping for breath as he headed towards the employee locker room.

Maxine ordered breakfast in her room and set about collating her information and ensuring that she had the evidence base for the criteria for excellence that she was certain she would apply to the resort. More aware of bias than ever before, Maxine ensured that her assessment was rigorous, a process which, after breakfast in her room, she found not only time consuming, but blissfully absorbing. By the time she looked up she realised it was 2 pm and that she was well overdue a break.

Donning a swimsuit and a sarong, Maxine headed downstairs to the pool. She determinedly did not look around for Derek and instead worked out the stiffness of being bent over papers for so long and attempted to prevent the sexual and emotional need to see Derek, which she was aware of keeping in check with relative success. Only after multiple laps did Maxine finally slow to tread water and then float, aware of a sudden hunger and thirst. Given that she had dinner plans that evening and the late hour, she decided to take a snack beside the pool, so at 3 pm she was enjoying a salad platter, a half bottle of dry white wine and a large bottle of still mineral water. She calculated she still had at least 3 hours work to go before getting ready for her dinner 'date'.

Derek lingered in the employee shower for quite a long time after his particularly intense run. He was doing his best not to think of Maxine and the things they'd done together, but it was far easier said than done.

Even when Derek finally managed to pull himself out of the shower and get dressed for work, his mind continued to wander. It got so bad that he eventually had to take himself off of the front desk. He'd realized that his performance wasn't up to his usually standards, and though he knew that, with Maxine here, the prospect of another person in her line of work showing up was slim, but he didn't want to draw attention to himself, and even more attention to Maxine in the process.

After he pulled himself off of work, Derek spent the next several hours bouncing back and forth from the weight room to the small employee pool. He was trying to work off the plethora of sexual energy and frustration that Maxine seemed to have awakened within him. Again though, despite his best efforts, the level of his success was relatively minimal.

Things got even harder for Derek when he heard over the radio that Maxine had finally come out of her room. It did make him glad that he wasn't at the front desk though, but it did not lessen his desire to see her.

Try as he might, Derek couldn't shake that desire to see Maxine, and when at long last he recognized that the feeling wasn't going to go away, he donned his work clothes once more. He knew that Maxine was by the resort pool, so he naturally headed in that direction.

Despite the fairly large crowd of people in the pool area, Derek recognized Maxine almost immediately. He'd arrived too late to see her swimming, but the sight of her body, barely covered by the bathing suit did little to help him resist the feelings that had been battering against his defenses for the entirety of the day.

Derek had to keep moving to avoid suspicion from his coworkers, but even as he moved, he made sure to avoid walking directly in front of Maxine, regardless of how far from her he was. He kept to her sides and besides her, sometimes forcing himself to just observe her out of the corner of his eye.

Only when the urge to approach Maxine grew almost out of control did Derek finally force himself to walk away. He felt every muscle in his body, from his fingers to his toes twitching, every bit of him wishing for even the barest of touches of the skin that he knew was soft and smooth.

With the prospect of doing any sort of quality work well out of his reach, and muscles that were already feeling the effect of the rigorous workouts Derek had put his body through, the choices left to him were limited. Thankfully though, one of them was at least pleasant. So Derek's next destination was the sauna.

Maxine was reluctant to return to her room, but she had played truant enough she decided. Slowly she made her way back to the lift. Despite herself she did look around casually just in case Derek was around, but of course he wasn't.

Once back in her room she shed her costume and took a shower before pulling on her robe and then settling back over her papers once more.

Time flew and she managed to complete so much more than she had expected. She stood and stretched as she noted that she only had 40 minutes to get ready for her dinner 'date'. She longed to linger in the tub, but instead took another quick shower and then began preparing to look her best. Half an hour later no one would have suspected that she had rushed to get ready. Leaving the lift Maxine seemed totally relaxed; her hair piled high on her head with a tendril dangling at either side. Her make up was immaculate, her skin pale and flawless, her lips red and eyes smokey. She walked to the bar, moving easily in black heels the black fabric of her long gown almost audible as her skirts swished. By contrast her neckline was plunging with narrow spaghetti straps which held the dress in place. A black velvet choker was set around her neck with a pearl feature to the front.

"Martini, please."

She ordered before turning to see if her companion had arrived yet.

"MAX!!!"

There was a shriek of greeting as a strikingly slim woman clad in a simply cut trouser and waistcoat outfit crossed the room to throw arms around to embrace her.

"It's been too long darling! I couldn't believe you called at last!"

Maxine couldn't help laughing at the greeting and returned it as warmly.

"Jo, you know I adore you."

Maxine reassured the woman who pressed a firm kiss to Maxine's lips in response.

"Martini? How boring."

Jo declared as she released Maxine finally.

Ordering two lethal sounding cocktails she dragged Maxine to the alcove where an empty glass and a half empty glass evidenced that she had started early.

"So ... what's the problem?

Jo asked unceremoniously causing Maxine to shake her head in denial.

"Oh come on Maxine. I know you! You're either pregnant, in love, in lust ... or have you finally 'turned' and want to run away with me?"

She asked watching Maxine's reactions as she spoke.

The two remained silent as the cocktails were set in front of them.

"So ... ?"

Maxine shook her head in exasperation.

"Ok ... so I did want to talk something through with you, but ... "

Jo had downed her half glass and picked up the newly delivered cocktail.

"So ... what's his name?"

She asked, direct as ever.

In Derek's mind, the sauna really was the perfect place. Whether somebody was in there with you or not, it was a place where you could just let everything be laid bare. Take this latest visit for example. He didn't have to worry about the burden of clothes, coworkers, guests, or anything at all really. He could just sit in there, relax against the wall and let his mind wander to whatever it wanted to.

It was no surprise to Derek when it wandered back to Maxine time and again, but in the privacy of the sauna, it was something he didn't mind one bit. He just closed his eyes and relived every moment the two of them had spent together these past couple of days. He didn't have to worry about any sort of modesty when his cock got hard, and there was nobody to care or stop him from relieving the tension that the thoughts of Maxine had brought on.

After a long time in the shower, Derek found himself in his room once more. This time though, he figured it was about time he got himself under control and put on the face that everybody was used to seeing. It wasn't the face that he wanted to put on right now, especially with Maxine so close, but unfortunately, it was pretty much the only option available to him just then.

A few minutes later, Derek would be standing in the spot where everybody had gotten accustomed to seeing him, behind the center counter tending to every customer who happened to wander in his direction.

When the news of Maxine's visitor reached him, Derek actually broke out in his small but genuine smile. He hoped that it would make things that much easier for Maxine. Between the work that she had to get done, and her guest, hopefully she'd be in a better mind state than he was just then.

"Shhhh Jo ... not here ... not now ... "

Maxine glanced around warily hoping that they had not been overheard.

"It's ... complicated..."

She watched Jo lounge back and roll her eyes. Everything about the woman was so theatrical.

"When isn't it darling...?"

She commented.

"Besides which, I'm supposed to be working here ... the review's almost done ... one more day should finish it ... and then ... "

Maxine paused and sipped at her martini hesitating before she confided.

"I'm thinking of making a change ... of career, of life ... everything ... "

Uncharacteristically Jo remained silent, merely watching, considering.

"Well .... that is news ... "

She commented neutrally.

"I'd love to meet the person who's made you realise how shit your job is."

Maxine loved the directness which she had come to expect from Jo. No offence was meant and between such close friends, none was ever taken.

"You were right .... there's more to life."

Maxine agreed.

"And no matter how this ... this situation ... works out ... I'm ready to get out of the whole industry ... well ... side step at least .... where I was hoping you might give me some advice.... ?"

Jo reached out and embraced Maxine, drawing her close.

"I never thought I'd see the day. You know I'll give you whatever you need; advice, support, a sanctuary whilst you decide what to do ... and much as I'd love to have you all to myself, you can bring your lover as well .... "

Maxine was touched by her friend's generosity.

"Thanks Jo. I knew I could count on you ... for a reality check if nothing else ... "

Jo laughed dismissively.

"Fuck reality. You don't want to bother with that!"

She declared.

"... and I'll hold off quizzing you ... for now ... as long as you let your hair down for God's sake."

She pushed the cocktail across toward Maxine.

" ... you said yourself you had almost finished here ... so ... let's have some fun. And if it all gets to claustrophobic here we can hit a club later ... "

It was easier to be carried along than to object Maxine had learned many years ago.

As Derek worked at the front desk and listened to the steady stream of updates about Maxine and her guest, he couldn't help but marvel at the effect she'd had on...well everything. Just a few days ago, he'd been completely and utterly consumed with his ob, with very few thoughts of changing his routine anytime soon. Now though, he was not only considering changing his daily routine, but literally changing his entire life, all for and because of a woman he'd only just met. It seemed so surreal to him, but at the same time, he was more than happy to admit to himself that he wasn't afraid of that change, not as long as Maxine was a part of it.

Derek felt himself jolt as he finally pulled himself out of his mental reverie, shaking his head as he realized once again that he had to take a break from work to get his mind under control once more.

After he got somebody to cover the front desk for him, Derek stepped away, but had to hesitate, because he had no idea where to go or what to do. He was still thinking about where he should be going when he realized that he'd not only started walking, but was subconsciously walking towards the lobby bar, where he knew Maxine was, still accompanied by her guest. When he realized which direction he was headed, he simply shrugged and continued on.

Derek already knew that Maxine and her friend were nestled at the table in the back corner, and despite the small crowd in the bar, he recognized her blond hair instantly. In fact, no sooner did her turn in her direction and see her back, her pale skin standing out distinctly against the fabric of her black gown, than her hands lifted and released the bun on top of her head. He found himself briefly entranced as he watched her hair flow down her back. He couldn't even bring himself to turn away until her hair had finally settled in place. He blinked and jumped slightly when he realized that he was not only staring, but that her guest might have seen him staring. He quickly bowed his head and headed for the bar.

Soon enough, Derek was sitting on the stool against the wall, giving him both a clear sight of the door, and of Maxine, though it was really just a side few of her. He was nursing a rum and coke as he sat in thought. Despite his best efforts not to stare, his gaze continued to wander in that direction, and he was continuously having to remind himself not to stare and turn away, even if it was a near-futile effort.

Maxine knew that Jo thought she was too controlled, too careful and too aware of what others thought. Whether the 'letting your hair down' comment was meant metaphorically or not, Maxine knew that Jo definitely admired her hair, which was currently schooled into a chic, sophisticated, but restrained style. Maxine's eyes caught the other woman's as she reached up and easily unfastened the clip she had fixed so securely and smiled as the blonde tresses tumbled down to her shoulders. She had brushed it repeatedly and so it still hung sleekly, but Jo could not resist reaching out and running her fingers through Maxine's long tresses ostensibly to smooth the slight tussling, but lingering as she did so.

"Better?"

Maxine asked her friend.

" ... so much better Max."

Came the response as Jo reluctantly drew back and raised her glass.

"To fun, friendship and fucking!"

She toasted.

Taking the lethal cocktail, Maxine echoed her words, clinking glasses and they both laughed. Upon sipping the drink, Maxine found it deceptively palatable and all too easy to consume far too quickly.

"You are good for me Jo,"

Maxine told her softly.

" ... and if that offer of sanctuary still stands, then I'm hoping to check out of here the day after tomorrow ... I need to finish business before I can even begin to consider more 'pleasurable' matters."

Jo assured her that she would be welcome and watched Maxine as she easily downed the cocktail.

"You've fallen for a guy who works here haven't you?"

She asked Maxine who blushed as she nodded.

"And ... I'd guess he's younger than you ...?"

Maxine looked at her friend in surprise. How could she possibly have jumped to that - correct - conclusion?

"He is ... but he's ... "

Jo interrupted her.

"He's not over tall, dark haired and eyes to die for ...?"

She queried further.

"Lithe and strong ... almost athletic build...?"

She laughed at Maxine's astonishment.

"Don't look now, but there's a guy matching that description obviously can't tear his eyes away from you ... "

She informed Maxine who attempted to glance across quickly without anyone noticing and saw Derek seated at the other end of the bar and that his eyes repeatedly flicked over in her direction.

"That's him."

She confirmed to Jo who had raised her eyes to Derek's and now held his gaze.

"Jo... don't .... "

Maxine hissed.

"We made a deal that we'd keep out of the other's way for today at least."

Jo shrugged.

"Yeah, but he broke the rules first; he chose to come in here and watch you."

She told Maxine.

"Yup, he's hooked alright ... "

She opined moving her gaze back to Maxine and easing closer so that they were not overheard.

"So which is it, love or lust?"

Jo questioned in her usual uncompromising fashion.

"Definitely lust ... "

Maxine confirmed.

"Love ... I don't know ... we've not been able to get to know each other even ... "

Jo rolled her eyes.

But you've fucked him?"

Maxine gave a mock grimace.

"Jo!! Yes.. of course ... "

Just thinking of their times together and the fact that Derek was seated a short distance away was making her cheeks glow and body heat.

"Ok ... I get the message he's good ... "

Jo commented with a chuckle.

"I take it your plans involve him too?"

Maxine nodded and spoke still more quietly if that were possible as she pressed closer to Jo.

"... hopefully ... he's offering to leave and come work for me, with me, heck we haven't worked out details ... like I said... complex ... "

Derek knew that Maxine's companion had seen him, but he didn't know what all she'd noticed until, during one of the times that he glanced over at the pair of them, she not only looked up at him, but met his gaze with a piercing brown stare of her own. Derek wanted to look away, and knew that he should, but he couldn't tear his eyes away from the raven haired beauty, especially with the way her hair hung in front of her face, nearly concealing one eye.

As much as he wanted to look away, Derek couldn't turn his head until the woman's gaze finally lowered from his, shifting to Maxine once more. His gaze then followed, but only for the briefest of moments this time. His face burned red with his shame as he turned away from the pair, turning back towards his drink, which he downed in a swallow.

Derek ordered another drink and downed it quickly before forcing himself to leave the bar. He quickly checked in with his supervisor and got permission to retire for the night. She seemed thankfully ignorant of the specifics of what had just transpired, which he was thankful for. Though he wasn't particularly tired just then, Derek headed up to his room anyway. He'd already jeopardized the pair of them once, and it was the only way to ensure that he didn't do it again.

Jo nodded, judging from the young man's reaction to her scrutiny, his very presence there and Maxine's behaviour above all it was clear that this was no casual fling for either of them.

"You think I'm crazy?"

Maxine asked Jo drawing a sultry smile from her friend.

"Hell, yeah."

Was the response.

"Thank goodness, took you long enough."

Maxine was relieved by Jo's implied approval. Explaining the situation out loud made it sound so bizarre, yet only Jo could listen with hardly the bat of an eye in reaction.

"Ok, Romeo's headed off. Let's go eat."

She stood leaving the empty glasses and drew Maxine along with her, a casual hand wrapped around her waist, the easy intimacy was sure to draw staff speculation, but Maxine found she cared very little as to what any one watching might think. What did concern her though was Derek. After a day apart Maxine had no idea as to how he was feeling about things or if he would have approached them had he not been intimidated by the presence and gaze of Jo.

"Relax."

Jo admonished her as they took their seats in a discrete corner table once more.

"Why don't you talk business to me ... you know you want to."

She teased at Maxine's surprised gaze.

" ... you've considered alternative career options I'd bet."

She grinned.

" ... and you need something that gives Romeo an opportunity too ... "

Jo was used to clarifying situations succinctly.

"So you have to the end of the first bottle of wine and until our main course arrives ... and after that ... I choose the topic of conversation, deal?"

Maxine took the hand offered to her.

"Deal."

She agreed as Maxine ordered a bottle of white wine and they considered the menu.

Derek tried going to sleep when he got to his room, but was anything but surprised that he wasn't able to manage it. He tossed and turned for the better part of an hour before he finally gave up and rolled out of bed once more.

Though he wasn't entirely sure where he was planning on going, Derek left his room once more. He just let his mind wander wherever it wanted to while he walked, and it wasn't until he turned down one of the hallways leading to the gardens that he actually realized where he was. It also wasn't until that point that he realized that he'd forgotten to bring his employee radio with him. He had no idea where Maxine and her guest were, and it would make it that much harder for him to avoid the pair of them, an action that seemed sadly necessary.

Derek inhaled deeply when he closed the door behind him and stepped into the enclosed garden area. This had always been a place he'd enjoyed spending time, especially around this time of the day. The sun wasn't setting just yet, but it was getting close. Without thinking, Derek moved to lean against the same part of the fence that he'd rested when he'd brought Maxine to the gardens. It would give him a great view of the sunset when the time came for it, and it was definitely a sight that he'd enjoyed many times in the past.

They were finishing up a sinful chocolate dessert. A bottle of red had followed the white and they planned to order brandys to go along with the coffee to come.

"Are you serious Jo?"

Maxine questioned as she pushed the empty dish away and took a sip of the dark strong coffee.

"Of course. You need a place near here to stay, with or without your Romeo ... and if you want somewhere private ... well there's the beach hut and the tree house ... "

Maxine laughed at the ridiculous appellations.

"And if you need moral support, or anything else...?"

Jo's lascivious expression made Maxine laugh.

"Then you only have to say ... "

Maxine sobered.

"You're too good to me Jo."

She leaned over and kissed the other girl, laughing as Jo moved so that their lips met.

"And incorrigible!"

Maxine chastised unphased by Jo's playfulness.

"And I could be soo much 'gooder' to you babe ... "

Jo responded with drama.

"But you won't let me."

Fuelled by the wine, their laughter rang out until Maxine attempted to shush Jo.

"... their radios will be going like crazy informing each other that Maxine Chambers is a lush..."

She warned.

" ... better that then knowing that you're set on seducing that poor young man and dragging him off in your evil clutches ... "

Jo responded, laughing at Maxine's mock shock.

"The seduction is far from one sided."

Maxine commented cryptically.

"Oh ... wanna tell Aunty Jo the details?"

Maxine laughed.

"Strange sort of Aunty you'd turn out to be ... and.. no ... I don't think you need any more scandal to use against me ... "

Jo pretended to look hurt, but the two chuckled companionably and settled down to enjoy the end of their meal, lingering over a second coffee before finally leaving the restaurant and cutting through the gardens on the way to hail a cab for Jo.

"Sure you don't want to go clubbing?"

Jo asked mischievously.

"I have to finish up here tomorrow, remember?"

Maxine responded as she walked arm in arm with her friend, as they progressed slightly unsteadily.

"So ... I'll see you at mine the day after...? No chickening out now."

Jo told her.

"Whatever happens, Jo, it's time for a change ... a big change ... "

Although she was tipsy, Maxine had never been so clear headed about anything in her life.

The staff were eager to accommodate Maxine and had a cab ready immediately. Jo put her arms around Maxine and embraced her, her lips pressing to Max's with deliberate lasciviousness.

"Nite Jo."

Maxine said all too aware of that this would be reported all round the hotel, but as ever with Jo, Maxine saw the funny side of her antics.

"See you at mine, ok babe?"

Jo shouted as Maxine assured her that she would.

With a smile towards the staff, Jo watched her friend drive off before returning to the gardens and taking a deep breath of air. God, how much had she drunk? Jo was a bad influence! With a fond smile, Maxine turned in the opposite direction heading out towards the beach. She had been told that this was the place to watch the sunset and it would give Maxine a chance to clear her head. And so she took the path out of the complex which opened up onto the sand. Despite her finery, Maxine took off her heels and made her way towards a discarded sun lounger and lowered herself down to watch the waves as she considered the plans she had made with Jo that evening ...

The sun was just starting to set, and the reds and oranges were still lighting up the sky when Derek saw Maxine come from around the building. He swallowed hard when he saw her. It seemed that there wasn't any where he could go that he could escape her. His gaze lingered on her as she took off the high heels that she wore and made her way to the beach.

Once again, a tiny voice in the back of Derek's mind told him that he should just stay where he was. It would be so easy too, so easy to just lean here, admiring both the sunset and Maxine from a safe distance without any further temptation. Just like every other time in the past couple days though, Derek ignored that voice and stood up. He moved slowly towards the gate that opened onto a path that led from the gardens to the beach. He closed and locked the gate behind him, trying to make as little noise as he could.

Derek walked on silent feet down the path, wanting to surprise Maxine with his presence. He was standing at the very end of the stone path, not quite on the sand yet when he finally stopped and spoke.

"I told you this was a good spot to watch it." Derek said with a smile, watching as Maxine jumped a little in surprise and turned towards him. His gaze had moved from her though, moving to watch the beautiful flood of colors that seemed to fill the entire sky.

When Derek's gaze moved from the sky to Maxine once more, he found her looking at him still, and couldn't resist the urge to smile at her and take the first step onto the sand. He moved to stand beside the chair she lounged in and lowered himself to sit on the sand beside it. "Beautiful, isn't it?" Derek asked as he looked up at the sky once more.

"I told you this was a good spot to watch it."

Maxine jumped at the sound of an unexpected voice behind her, a smile lighting her face as she instantly realised that it was Derek. She was amazed at how pleased she was to see him, how she had to fight an instinctive urge to close the gap between them to ... to do things that she could not risk being observed ... yet....

And so she turned back to look at the sunset, aware that Derek had stepped onto the sand and was approaching the lounger where she was sat. She glanced across at him as he seated himself on the sand at the foot of her lounger and saw his eyes still lifting to the sky.

"Beautiful, isn't it?"

He asked her.

"Yes, it really is."

She told him.

"And it's so quiet, so relaxing here ... "

She told him, then added with a chuckle.

"Besides, I had a bit more than usual to drink. I needed some fresh air."

She told him making no move to close the gap between them or to touch him and instead easing back and watching the sky in silence.

"And it's so quiet, so relaxing here ... "

Just the sound of Maxine's voice was enough to make Derek smile. The chuckle that followed only broadened the smile on his lips.

"Besides, I had a bit more than usual to drink. I needed some fresh air."

This time it was Derek's turn to chuckle.

"Yes, this place is good for both of those things. This sight though, is one of the few reasons why I've stayed as long as I have. Sometimes, I just sit here with my laptop, listening to the waves, letting whatever ideas come into my mind go straight to the paper."

When he was done speaking, Derek let his head bow slightly, moving to bend his knees so he could rest his arms comfortably on them.

"I like it better here with you though..." Derek finished softly, lifting his head once more.

Maxine nodded, her eyes still focused upon the sky as she wondered if Derek would really want to leave this.

"I like it better here with you though..."

Maxine turned to meet his eyes and gave a soft smile and a nod.

"I'm leaving here the day after tomorrow."

She told him watching for his reaction.

"I'll finish collecting information tomorrow and then I'm going to finish my report 'off site', which I often do,"

She added clarifying that it would not look strange for her to do so.

"After that ... "

She hesitated, not wanting to put pressure on him.

"I'll be staying reasonably close by. There's no rush..."

She didn't want him to make any big decisions he'd regret later.

"Maybe you should just ... take a holiday from here to start with ... and see how that works out for you ... "

She was doing everything she could to avoid him having 'burn his bridges' by going with her.
