Respect

There are degrees of respect.

I respect all persons as individuals, regardless of how they treat me or others. To this end, it simply means that I would not intentionally wrong them or berate them for their beliefs. It is a starting place, in a manner of speaking.

Now, to gain a deeper level of respect, there are things that they can do to gain that. Actually, one of the biggest issues that builds my respect for others is how they treat others. Are they respectful and tolerant of others? Then, as time goes on, are they true to themselves or easily swayed by public opinion? Do they hold firm to their own values and beliefs? How do they attack life's little problems? Do they attack them or allow the issues to take control? Do they use their resources, intelligence, etc well or are they allowing themselves to stagnate?

It is a hierarchy, in many respects and while this sounds fickle and bitchy, there are few who actually move from respect to that peak of being held in a place of high esteem.

So, perhaps to clarify, respect is given freely by me, but esteem must be earned?

*shrugs*

I wish that I could post my thoughts as intelligently as you do MissT. :)

To me, it isn't being fickle or bitchy to hold only a few in high esteem. I respect many, but there are few that I hold in such high regard.

I try to give everyone respect until they prove otherwise...even then I try to see beyond the surface... especially in a forum like this...

Now admiration is a different.... I can't admire someone I don't respect... but you have to earn that...

I need more coffee... I don't think that made much sense...:(

People are just people until they give me a reason to classify them differently. However there are those that either give me the heebeejeebees or they shine. Other than these, you have to earn respect as well as disrespect from me. Either way you have to work hard at it.

I've said it before I'll say it again....I treat everyone how I would want to be treated....:)

I give back exactly what I get.

Same here.

How does everyone deal with trust? Do you trust people right away until they do something to lose it or do you hold your trust until you feel the person is worthy of it?

So, if I want to be a delcious chocolate treat with strawberries, I should treat others as such?

I read something earlier regarding respect.

Do you respect everyone until they have proven they don't deserve it?

or

Do others need to prove themselves to you in order to earn your respect?

The word respect means to hold in high honor/value

*sniff sniff*

MissT doesn't respect me..... she just smacks me on the ass when's she's done and tells me to catch a cab.

BOOOHOOOHOOOO

Then you move on knowing that you gave and tried your best.
