Respect

I read something earlier regarding respect.



Do you respect everyone until they have proven they don't deserve it?

or

Do others need to prove themselves to you in order to earn your respect?

I'm going to have to say both. I give everyone a certain amount of respect to begin with. The more they show they don't deserve it, the less I pay them. There are exceptions though...some people just don't give themselves the time to get the basic amount before they show they don't get any.


Hopefully that made sense, I'm kinda tired.

Everyone gets basic respect and depending on their actions, if favourable, they will receive my admiration.

I try to treat people I don't know with the same respect I'd like shown toward me(as a stranger).Of course, this can change as I get to know them better.

I give everyone respect until they've proven they don't deserve it. But that isn't to say that one a basic level I don't treat them respectfully.

The flip side to that is if they are respectful to others and to themselves, my appreciation and admiration grows.

I try and respect everyone

but I have blown it tonight twice arghhhhhhhhhh!! cause I lost my temper

but those I have blown it against tonight I still respect cause everyone is due a little respect regardless of what happen in the heat of the moment

As I was taught.....

1: I give everyone implied respect unless by their observed behavior, they fit a negative profile. I'm not saying by appearance, but by behavior. One on one, I give respect until their actions or behavior makes them unsuitable for my company, or respect.

*My mom and dad always taught me to look beyond appearance, and look into the soul of the person you just met.

2: Elder persons get my immediate respect because of the dues they've paid to live as long as they have.

3: Veterans get my immediate respect for the dues being paid.

4: Present soldiers get my immediate respect as they're paying their dues.

5: Authority figures get implied respect for the same reasons as #1.

Wasn't here so I don't know what's gone on, but if you were friends before the fuss.. extend your sincere apologies for losing your cool.

It isn't surprising that I happen to agree with your attitudes regarding respect. Your mother and father taught you well.

I've done this. Several times, lol the biggest case in point is trolling around now. *shrug*

There is something even worse.. and that's not giving someone the benefit of the doubt who does happen to deserve it.

We learn things about people who we like, things that we don't always agree with.

But for the most part, people deserve second chances.

I know that I can be too giving, lord knows it's come back to bite me on the arse.. but that's just my character makeup.

I am decent to everyone that I meet until they prove by their words or their actions that they do not deserve that.

That does not mean that I respect them, respect is earned and daily I deal with many people closely that I have no respect for.
