Some time ago I wrote a story specifically designed to piss off the loving wives crowd. It did a splendid job, but now it has outlived its usefulness. It doesn't represent my ideology at all, and the comments have become increasingly aggressive. The story is called Vicious, read it at your own risk. I'd like to take it down. A somewhat exhaustive search revealed no easy mechanism. Suggestions?

Refile it with "Delete" behind the title and put a note in the Notes box on what you would like to have done with it.

Log into your account and create a new submission titled "REMOVE". In the body of the submission, put the names of the submissions you wish removed along with (optionally) the reason for their removal.

If you want all of your work removed, you can write "DELETE ALL" in one form rather than listing every submission.

If you want all of one series removed, you can write "DELETE [SERIESNAME]" in one form rather than listing every submission.

Submission removals are usually done within 2-5 days.

I'd leave it. You wrote it for a purpose and if its still getting comments, especially nasty ones, then its serving that purpose and if it was your intention to piss off that disgusting crowd, then that is your ideology.

Pull it, you show them their nastiness has power. Leave it, it shows them the opposite.

I say this as someone who has two scores of 2.8 in that category because I did just what you did.

The artist's job is to challenge the norm. One might find their shrieks of outrage a sign you have done well. Might be tempted to read it just to see what it's about and why it made people angry. So far I have heard that loving wives is full of a lot of angry people.

But leave it. Good or bad, take what you did and move on, seeing where to improve. And where you want to improve. On my side, I'm NEVER going to change my stories just to please the audience. I will try to do a better job of telling it, but my inner universe stays as it is in defiant lack of care for what the neighbor wants.

Edit: Well, that was shorter than I expected, but I see why it might make people mad. That's not loving wives at all. Reminds me how on another website in the "affectionate sex" section you just see people going "COME GET CUCKED" and it makes my eyes roll.

How about we not tell an author that they should keep something up that they want taken down.

They didn't ask for you to lecture them, they asked how to remove a story.

I disagree. They were given the information to do just that, take down a story. However, there were several authors that disagreed with that action. Every one of them respectfully voiced their opinion. It wasn't a "lecture". It was an opinion that gave the OP a differing viewpoint, something to consider and use if they so desired. Were I to post such a request as the OP did, I would very much enjoy others' viewpoints on the matter and then do as I pleased.

From dictionary.com
Lecture
2) a speech of warning or reproof as to conduct; a long, tedious reprimand.

I respectfully disagree, as I believe you wrote the best possible story that fits your characters. As a true artist, you were compelled to write this story and could not let it go. It's understandable to feel hurt by rejection from the audience, even if you don't like them. While the OP can block comments on their story, they may have another motive, such as wanting to please the same audience with new stories.

In this vast literary landscape, the LW category (with my sincere apologies to the I/T audience for not counting them) may be the only place where you can truly be seen. You may dislike the audience there, but at the same time, you crave their attention. Alternatively, you could find some validation here, but it may not be as substantial.
6 of one half dozen of another. I felt the story was a good effort, but I also knew what the result would be so I took the expected lumps and took the 'mixed' comments that stated the writing was good, but the people sucked, sort of the plan anyway

I/T will get you a lot of attention and I'd say most is positive, its a fairly laid back group and if you're the type to pander and write to the winning formula you'll do well. LW can be seen as an interesting challenge in the sense of is there a story that would resonate with most there? Answer seems to be no, all factions have solid lines in the sand and won't cross them.

I'll remember this post and remind you of it every time you express an opinion when not specifically asked for one.

Okay, I'm kidding, I won't remember your post two minutes after I hit reply.

Wow, didn't expect this lively discussion, But thank you all for it none the less! I wanted this pulled down frankly because a commenter said something that led me to believe he might consider doxing me. The story itself is one of my poorer efforts. I wrote it in about 45 minutes. But in spite of all the bile in the comments section, it got a lot of clicks and a lot of favorites.
Were I not concerned for my and my family's safety, there would be no need to remove it. It's not my biggest stinker (See "Carla's Wedding" or "Becca Be the One").

I remember writing a humor/satire story full of really disgusting humor, scat, etc that scored just above 2.0 and had a single comment, which was "Hilarious, I loved this!"
