Scary, isn't it? That's how screwed up my metabolism is. And now, I hover around 150, unable to gain more than a few pounds before losing it again. No matter how much or what I eat.
No. A change of diet could solve the problem. I have always, always, always had a tremendously difficult time putting on weight and an even more difficult time maintaining it. Your metabolism is simply the rate at which you take your caloric intake and burn it up as energy. My guess is that you aren't tremendously athletic so you're simply burning your energy up without using it for something constructive.
A healthy exercise program and a serious change of diet will do wonders.
I highly suggest a High Carb, High Protein diet where you slash your Trans and Non-Trans Fat intake dramatically. Eat six meals a day, not three, and make sure you load up on vitamins. A daily multi-vitamin will do the trick. A glass of V8 a day is a great boost in that regard, too.
Stay away from white bread, fatty foods, fatty meats. Stick to lean protein and whole wheat grains.
Exercise an hour a day so that the protein is put to use in a constructive way.
And you'll see results. And don't tell me you've tried it and it hasn't worked because I know you're lying. I've been there. It's a huge commitment. You're probably going to have to get a food scale and measure your servings, make sure you're getting between 2500-3000 calories a day, but if you put in the work you will get the results.
