I wonder if Zip, Will, Rob, Butters, 1174, Pecksniff, Yard Dog barking, will be stand up people and apologize for their errors in judgment and admit they aren't fit to judge reality?

US scientists who downplayed COVID-19 lab leak origins theory sang a different tune in private, emails show
Scientist said of COVID-19: 'I just can't figure out how this gets accomplished in nature'

By Timothy H.J. Nerozzi | Fox News

U.S. scientists who publicly attributed the COVID-19 pandemic to natural origins rather than human engineering were far less confident in private, transcripts and notes from previous meetings show.

However, conversations between public officials seem to indicate that some experts may have consciously chosen to suppress evidence that could fuel "conspiracists."

"I really can't think of a plausible natural scenario where you get from the bat virus ... to nCoV where you insert exactly four amino acids 12 nucleotide that all have to be added at the exact same time to gain this function," Dr. Robert Garry from Tulane's School of Medicine said, according to notes from a February 2020 meeting released by House Republicans.

"I just can't figure out how this gets accomplished in nature," Garry added in his group comments at the time. "Don't mention a lab origin, as that will just add fuel to the conspiracists."

Now, fresh questions are being raised about what American scientists and federal health officials knew about the origins of the coronavirus and whether conflicting evidence was suppressed and hidden from the public.

Lab leak theory:

Claims that the virus was engineered

The scientific consensus "overwhelmingly conclude(s) that this coronavirus originated in wildlife."[79] Analysis of SARS-CoV-2 shows that it shares about 96% of its RNA with a RaTG13 coronavirus strain found in a bat, and has mutations that are less likely to be have been the biproduct of artificial selection; the scientific consensus continues to be that an animal is the most likely source of SARS-CoV-2.[80][81][82][83][84][85] The death rate of SARS-CoV-2 is 2%, and is estimated that an average infected human can infect two and a half humans,[86] this reality runs contrary to the conspiracy as the whole point of a bioweapon is to kill people. Why the hell would the Chinese government want to piss off other governments by infecting their citizens and government officials?[87][88][89] At least with this conspiracy, it is somewhat realistic and would operate within the laws of physics, unlike the other conspiracies.

Of course, when conspiracy theorists are confronted on these contradictions, they say that yes, these government officials are being assassinated in the most attention-grabbing way possible, that would attract the imagination and alarm of the panicking public. One study explicitly refuted the plausibility of laboratory origin due to similarities to recently evolved zoological versions of coronavirus.[90]

But that hasn't stopped conspiracy theorists from claiming that it was created in a lab as a weapon or experiment gone wrong.

But all of the lickspittles here say "trust the government."

Yes, being perplexed and asking questions in early days is proof of a thing.

Dr. Robert Garry is actually making an honest comment...he says he honestly doesn't know where Covid comes from.... sounds true to me since the vast majority of scientist don't know due to the absurd difficulty of determining a source.

After that, he is making a conjecture, if he actually said that and wasn't misquoted or misrepresented. we all know how good the reporting is at Fox regarding misquotes and misrepresentation to prove their political agenda.

"Oh NOW we're gonna trust scientists when they're saying what we wanna hear!"

Leave it to Zumi to interrupt another LSD trip with an offering of psychedelic art describing his disjointed thought process.

Of course it is. Occam's Razor dictates the conclusion that the covid virus evolved naturally from species already present in wild animals.

You've never been within a mile of Occam's razor. The truth has been known from the beginning. We told you what the truth was a year and a half ago but as always you respond ignorantly at the direction of the media and your Democrat political leaders trying to cover their asses.

It's more like ignore the evidence right now and then apologize for being ignorant later.

Peck, about that rationalwiki article. Take a look at the very first link (#79). What is that link? It is an article in Science magazine that talks about a letter published in the Lancet. Guess who wrote that letter? Peter Daszak.

Peter Daszak is the CEO of EcoHealth Alliance. He was working with the Wuhan labs. This is all documented.

So, your rational and logical wiki is using the word of the guy who is documented to be a proponent of gain of function research, a receiver of pentagon grants and a receiver of NIH money to find dangerous viruses in the wild and study them at a lab in Wuhan China. This is the guy they decide is the paragon of reliable testimony.

Let me know if you need me to point you to links proving any of these claims.

Peter Daszak is not a reliable, objective source.

When did you ever post about amino acids and nucleotides?

Alpha came out of China. Beta came out of Brazil. Delta came out of India. Omicron came out of South Africa and Botswana. What labs are responsible for those, or any other of the thousand variant mutations?

Indeed, along with Fauci and Collins, he has probably the most to lose if it comes out that the virus is determined to be lab-originated.

Peck quotes rationalwiki all the time because he thinks that they are eminently logical and that they will always take the side of logic and reason. I have pointed out to him twice that by taking Peter Daszak as a reliable, unbiased source, they are poisoning their own analysis.

It would be like taking a suspect's word that they are not guilty as testimony proving their innocence.

Peter Daszak is so central of a figure in this whole issue, I can't imagine how anyone would think of him as unbiased.

Poor Peck his faux adamantium shield against reality is crumbling before its unstoppable onslaught.
