Remember When (long post)

Nostalgia

Oh I remember when only boring old **** went on an on about how great things used to be, now even teenagers are doing it!
I don't know what the younger generation are coming to.
Nostalgia's not what it was. We had proper nostalgia in my day.

Yes, but were you also bottled up and left on a dark shelf to collect dust?

No thanks, I'd rather be a family heirloom, loved, cherished, protected, fiercely coveted, the subject of many family disputes... :D

Sorry you were put on a dark shelf to collect dust there Kitten Eyes, I empathize and understand to a degree.

as for being the subject of many family disputes, I definitely know that feeling all too well.....

Here is a big ole Hug for you, Kitten Eyes.....

Chuckus honey, it was a joke and apparently not a very good one. But heck, if it gets me a hug...(in her best Martha Stewart impersonation, also not very good)...it's a good thing.

I knew it. But it was nice giving you a hug, right?

In retro, I see as I get older my wit is not as good today as it was yesterday....maybe that is from all work and NO play makes Chuckus a dull boy?

Oh oh, we can't have that now can we? Hmmm, what shall we do?

tapping my fingers on my temples....

hmmm.......I am open for suggestions? Suggestions anyone? My creative side is gone........today at least. Well we could go play in the snow and make the snow melt, if you know what I mean? LOL How about I get a snowball and bring it inside and get creative?

No ice!! Sorry sweetie, I lived in N.D. for two years, I despise being cold. A romp in the snow is one thing, but no snow on bare skin. (Especially when there are so many other delightful things to use on bare skin.)

However, I have it on good authority you are into claw marks and scratches. THAT I am good at. ;)

My body is your canvas with claws and scratches, no drawing blood (okay, not much anyhow......)

hmmmmmmmmmmm, you lead and I will follow Kitten Eyes, should I get the honey and whipped cream out?

Save the whipped cream for the Irish coffees

Mmmm, a roaring fire after a day spent hiking through the woods and building snowmen. Cuddling in front of the fireplace, soft kisses, gentle nibbles. Warming cold fingers with warm skin.

warming up by the fire......

cold fingers massaging warm skin, massaging every last nook and cranny...........gently caressing in the right spots. All the while the temperature is getting warmer inside while colder outside, making it even hotter. The two pairs of eyes meet and then they embrace in a wet, deep and passionate kiss....

hmmmmmmmm

Yep... dem were the days!

I don't remember lots of those things, Juliangel, but I know the feeling :)

I remember...

...When My Little Pony's were all the rage and pink Barbie cars didn't have motors...

...When Happy Meals came in boxes and the cheap, plastic surprise actually excited me...

...When we had water fights, boys against the girls, of course, in the park down the road...

...When "style" consisted of a t-shirt tied in a knot on the same side as your side-ponytail, some neon spandex shorts, and three pairs of different colored socks that matched the three hair ties you were wearing that day... and those awful canvas shoes...

...When everyone knew how to "break"... or wished they did...

...When the worst weapon imaginable was a Super Soaker...

...When my Dad came home with the brand new, state-of-the-art Commodore 64...

...When I actually had to leave the house to go shopping...

...When Britney Spears was just another Mousketeer...

...When the "Thriller" video really was pretty cool...

...When a "mix" had to be recorded, not downloaded...

...When snow meant a day off, not a day wasted...

...When I actually looked forward to birthdays...

...When Starbuck's wasn't taking over the world...

...When remote controls had cords...

...When MTV actually played music...

...When leg warmers were cool...

...When Summer lasted forever...

...When SUV's didn't exist...

...When sex was scandalous...

...When those were the days.

20 years old and allready looking for the good 'ol days? Good job Red.

Ha!

Thanks Sammy :)

Well, I just had to post one last thing about this...

It's funny how we do only remember the good things. We make it seem like those days were so much better, when in fact they really weren't.

For example, nobody here seemed to remember the Cold War era, and how learning how to crawl under your desk in the shortest amount of time was an integral part of school. Nobody mentioned the days when Blacks still had to fight to even attend a decent school. Nobody remembered the Nixon scandal, or when Ronald Reagan let thousands of mentally ill patients free in California (so that's what happened there :))...

I guess what I am trying to say is that I think we are all nostalgic, no matter how old we are. We want to remember the good times in the past, because it gives us hope for the present, as well as the future. If you think about the past realistically, though, and not nostaglically, I think that most of what you remember would not be so pretty... it would be pretty bad, as bad as the present or the future seem, just in a different context. If you think about it realistically, the only thing that has probably changed is your perceptions.

Anyway... I'll step down off the soapbox now.
Have a good day!

Oh we remember them...

in some cases all to clearly. I remember going to My 10th high school reunion aand being shocked at how many weren't there or not all there tanks to Viet Nam. There was one there last Aug for our thirtyth, and he still si haunted, by his experances. We remember them, and try to see that we don't repete them or ask another generation to.

But it is not pleasent, and nostalgia should be pleasurable if not fun.

Yesterday is the grown-up's version of Wonderland... typically it's about as real at that too.
