As Min especially knows, I am always 'BITCHING' about the lack of writing threads and quite frankly it wasn't long ago when I was also complaining - specifically about Zoot and Gauche and other's who were complaining about the same lack of serious writing threads. (okay, so it was 2003 and 2004 when they were bitching and I was complaining about their bitching ;) ).

However, as writers who are evolving in our craft, I think there comes a time when we want to discuss erotic and non-erotic writing seriously and not be interrupted by playful banter. I am not saying banter is not fun, certainly I do not believe that, but a serious venue to discuss writing concerns, issues, metaphor, writing elements, semiotics, research et al would be a wonderful STICKY add to an already great AH forum.

I recall Colly trying to get a research thread going (at least twice if not more), Lou trying to get a library thread going, other's just trying to get some good discussion going without having to compete with fun threads that overshadow serious writing talk and which shoot those serious writing threads to another page in the middle of the Twilight Zone.

Some of you may suggest going to the SDC – and it's also a great forum that I admire and suggest, but it is for discussion on particular stories. Others may say go to the Story Idea forum, which is a great place for beginners.

I would hope that I can get enough votes in this referendum to approach Laurel for an AH sticky where serious writing concerns of the AH can be easily found and answered.

Thanks for your time.

Like, an index thread linking to the serious stuff, or stick every serious topic at the top?

To the former, I say yay, if it makes ppl happy. Provided we ween out among the stickies we have. There are six of them already.

And who moderates the sticky to keep people from threadjacking it, hmmmm? ;)

I wouldn't be against it, though we already have too many stickies, IMO.

I agree if it is an index, for reference. Not if it is a place for people to have the discussions themselves. No one reads stickies.

Sorry, lol - I was talking and posting at the same time - lol. - not good. There are only six stickies on the AH right now Min, which is not many. One more, especially this one, may not hurt.

I always thought the "art" posts were stickies?

Edit to add: So perhaps I'm proposing a sub-forum for writers?

I WANT to know what is involved in writing a play - want to know how to write and submit a screenplay - would love to discuss what the differences in narratives are between an erotic film, play and story ...might like to give my experience. I like to discuss green writers versus experienced ones, enjoy discussing sex as it plays out in a story - research fetish with those of you who know, or maybe just ask how a hard on feels ... discuss SM and what it really means to writers ... these are things that get talked about on Lit, then get washed over, and god forbid trying to find those threads again!

I am a very curious person and would enjoy a venue of discovery.

I'd say it would be a positive. I'm not sure who'll decide on what's serious and what's not, and I agree that it is tough to get people to stay on topic *wait...is that something shiny :D * Anyway, good luck Charlie. If you get it going, I will definitely read and contribute.

Gotchya. :D That makes much more sense than a sticky.

The How To and BDSM forums have chat subforums. Since most of what's on the AH is chat, perhaps we could have a writing subforum? Don't know if Laurel would go for it or if it would have to be the other way 'round (making chat the subforum), but sounds good to me. :D

Thanks S-D - we don't always agree, but I am happy to finally find some common ground.

Edit to add: finding moderators is easy - they just edit to add the nonsense to a more appropriate thread and nonsense is not hard to figure out. :catroar:

It never hurts to post a poll and then ask! ;)

I'm right with you, Charley--we could use a sub-forum or what have you, to discuss stuff like this ;)

It would be really cool :D

Thanks babe - can I simply call you Hawk? :)

I like the idea of a subforum especially for serious writing questions, et cetera
. . .

A subforum, please :)

And here I thought I was being a clueless newbie, maundering on with serious writing subjects and taking up space that could otherwise be used for more worthwhile chat and banter....

Okay, so I *am* a maundering clueless newbie -

- but I still think a subforum for us Bluestockings would be nice :)

I'm not sure I see the need other than to avoid the scrolling down of pages. Other 'serious writers fora' average a response per week - if you're lucky - and rarely serve a constructive comment (like what we get 'ere) on writing or writers. It's worth a try, particularly as some of us are nervous flirters at best, just in case someone takes us up on the offer

Sub forum sounds like a good idea.
The serious threads tend to plummet like rocks because people recognise their importance and no one wants to jam them up with frivolous posts.

eg: Since I've been here (and that's only a coupla months) there's been at least 3 threads started on possible publishers. They've all slowly dropped, because they are serious, yet they should be readily available for when we have a flash of brilliance and write something worth flogging :D

I would like to give and receive constructive thought. I see a need, so post a poll, and you can flirt with me any time, you sexy beast! :catroar:

Hmm. no. I don't believe in splitting forums just because.

If there's a subforum for writing threads, I'll probably read and participate in them much less than I do now. That's what happened to the visual arts forum. It's there, but I always forget to go and check it out.
