Red blooded.

Thought it just meant commoner, working class, opposite of blue-blooded?

No, to me "red-blooded male" means horny, randy, turned on by any woman they find attractive (almost any). It also says to me: virile and up for it. :D

Well, I always here things like 'any red-blooded male' or 'what red-blooded male' and it always has to do with sex. Like 'what red-blooded male would turn away a dripping wet Alisha Cuthbert (the "Girl Next Door") from there door?' or something similer.

So it would seem that 'red-blooded' means straight.

Per example:

If it's true that 'any redblooded man would jump famous actress x's bones if given the chance' it would stand to reason that gay men are not 'red-blooded' [I have never heard a disqualifier such as- uless he's gay, *never*]

I would hope it meant they were human. Someone without red blood is either an alien or very quickly needs to increase his iron intake.

Well, I think it *is* meant to mean that they are human, or that they are alive.

you know sort of like saying, any guy with a pulse. But you are still asuming straightness, or you not?

I think when someone says "Red-Blooded" they are refering to the quintessentia Americam male. He watches football, wears Levies, has a leather jacket, drives a Chevrolet... etc. In that sence, I believe that the 'straight' is implied.

Is this still true? Doubt it, but the idea still stands.

Hey what would it mean if you were to say - 'God she's a red blooded female!'???

I think of the quintessential British man, with a high sex drive.

I've never given any thought to the sexual orientation of what I class as a red-blooded male, though. I guess it just isn't that big an issue to me.

Then again, now that I have been called to think about it, yes, I suppose I think of only straight men as being red-blooded. I guess it brings to mind quite a hetro and masculine image.

Does it matter?

Lou - still

Ah. Then I think actually it's the word 'male' that has that hidden connotation. Being gay isn't exactly seen as a masculine thing most of the time.

But I must say that I've never heard the expression before.

That she's a latina and a hot tamoli. some hispanic women are offended by this characterization.

I can understand why!!

But its all to do with being 'hot' - red blooded - well that means all of us - we are all red blooded!! But the connotations are to do with 'being hot'

Yep, I've heard of HOT-blooded women (been called one myself on a number of ocassions), meaning quick to temper, but not red-blooded women.

No, I'm saying that red-blooded male means horny fucker. And, although I've never heard the term red-blooded female, to me it means the exact same thing! No degradation of women there, in my eyes. I see no problem at all with a woman admitting she enjoys sex as much as a man.

Then again, I am somebody who likes to get called a slut. ;)

You and me both then!!

Hmm red blooded male - to me - always has more connetations than just 'horny fucker' its to do with that old being a 'mans man' kind of thing

Yeah that what I think when I hear that phrase - but it is a bit weird when you think that we are all red blooded - straight, male or whatever!

Only as much as any other turn of phrase... I honestly have never put much mind to them, literally:

"He's a stand-up guy"... well, sure he is.
"Hot blooded woman"... all women have relatively hot blood, so do men.
"Blue blood aristocracy"... their blood, of course, not being blue at all
etc.
etc.
etc.
etc.

but they all have their connatations - 'hot blooded' 'blue blood'

red-blooded: strong and highly spirited. As in, not dead.

It's a dictionary definition, no great insight needed, people.

"What red-blooded male would turn away a dripping wet Alisha Cuthbert" = "What living, breading, humane male capable of climbing half a flight of stairs would turn away a dripping wet Alisha Cuthbert"

Gay men as as red-blooded as anyone else, sweetie. If their blood was different from everyone else's, I think we would have heard about it by now. The reason why you never heard that disclaimer is because it weakens the point being made on a literary level. But you probably did hear that "any red-blooded heterosexual man would jump famous actress x's bones."
