Reasons for Choosing...(yes, political)

I have a friend who's very likely voting for McCain just because he can't stand Obama's wife and can't stomach the thought of voting for him because of that.

I got upset upon hearing that because IMO, it's bullshit like that that gets the morons elected and re-elected, cycle after cycle. I have no issue at all with people voting for McCain because they honestly believe he's the best choice, or even because they believe he's just the lesser of two evils, but when you vote for a candidate based on nothing other than who they're married to...

*sigh*

I haven't said anything to him about it because I'm afraid if I do, I won't be able to shut up.

Anyway, I'm not asking for anyone to voice their decision and their reasons for it, although y'all may do that if you wish. I'm just wondering what you think about choosing a candidate for reasons like his.

Well, not only do I disagree with his methods, I disagree with his opinion.

Michelle looks pretty good to me and I LOVE her 'tude, as shown on the Colbert show, for example...

(Of course, based on the intellectual prowess of his reasoning, he is most likely being taken in by the smears about her patriotism and racism. which just makes it all the sadder.)

I can understand where you're coming from, and in an enlightened, rational world, it shouldn't matter. However, if you believe that a person's choice of mate is in some degree a reflection on his character, Cindy McCain is a perfectly valid reason for not voting for John. She is a mean person. She proclaimed herself the "only child" of her father, when her half-sister was the FIRST child of her father (whereas Cindy was begotten on one of the trophy wives)--and canceled the line of credit their father had established for that half-sister, cold, minutes after he was laid in his grave.

However, I don't need that reason. There are plenty of others to go on with. And besides, to refute the opinion that I wrote above, I've known some very nice people who for God knows what reason, happen to be married to assholes.

ouch. that one is new to me... not that I have a problem believing it. I mean, she got her husband by cheating with him behind the back of his disfigured wife.

No...it's because he gets the impression that she thinks she's better than everyone else. :(

I don't know if this is what he's thinking but it's possible that to him, if she thinks she's better than everyone so does he. Given his nature, this wouldn't surprise me.

Still makes me mad though.

But then one has to wonder how many of the people that we vote for who are supposed to represent us common folk actually think they're better than us and everyone.

He is getting this about Michelle while directly comparing her to John & Cindy?????

that's remarkable.

Yeah, like what did she ever do besides work her way to the top? ;)

That too. I'd almost forgotten. For that, I don't fault her so much; there have been plenty of much nicer women who happened to fall for married men; besides, he had pursued her pretty persistently before he wore down her resistance. And he catted around extensively even before his first wife got in that wreck. Oh, and there was the guy she got fired from that charity she was involved with, in order to cover up her painkiller problem. For that, I don't fault her so much--the painkiller problem, that is; I think a lot of perfectly normal people have been known to take the odd leftover oxy from some prescription they had for surgery or whatever on days when Life Its Own Self seemed to hurt; just most of them know to stop when one stops working and you have to take two. But you don't set your own employees up to take the fall for it.

I dont like Michelle Obama, either. But to be honest, I can imagine and accept Obama as President but a black First Lady is total cognitive dissonance for me. I'm not ready to go down that road. Maybe if he got a divorce. Michelle brings out my racism.

I have worse problems with Cindy McCain. Cindy is the poster child for uptight.

On the other-hand this nation can do a lot better than McCain or Obama.

She is probably better than he is.

I would hope that anyone representing me is a little better than I am. Better at diplomacy, better at economic theory, better at standing up to congress, better at choosing the next American designer for her or his formal wear.

That's what they're hired for.

I keep hearing Palin fans say "I like her because she reminds me of myself." So-the-f**K what?! Tina Fey said it best on Letterman's show: "I listen to this woman and think, 'she's exactly as smart as I am. And that's not going to be nearly enough."

Tina Fey is gonna shit if Palin and John Boy win. She'll be like Jamie Farr.

Cindy McCain spent $400,000 on the outfit she wore for her speech at the republican National Convention.

A lot of that was for the pearls, but still. How can you possibly do that?

The RNC has reportedly spent about that much on wardrobe and hair styling for Sarah Palin. If I were Palin and discovered that my entire donated campaign wardrobe equalled one Cindy McCain outfit, I'd feel slighted.

I have just been having this discussion via emails with my brother. I don't even want to check the emails anymore, because it just makes my eyes bleed.

The Brother Hit Parade of reasons not to vote for Obama:
He's a Muslim.
He won't say the pledge of allegiance.
Some people are voting for him just because he is black.
He could be the Anti-Christ.

The other brother (they are twins), doesn't believe any of the above, but isn't going to vote, because it doesn't matter. "God's gonna put whoever He wants there, and we are in the end days anyway."

ARRRRRRRGH! How is it possible that the three of us came from the same womb?

I need a drink!

My reason for not voting for him is simple: his basic political philosophy for governing this country is fundamentally wrong.

Then again, so is McCain's.

Which is why I voted for Bob Barr. I'd rather have had Ron Paul, but Barr will do in a pinch.

If you have no other siblings, I'm guessing you took all the intelligence out of that womb. It ain't scientific, but it may account for how you got beauty AND brains.

Yes, I know people like this. You grow up in the Bible Belt, and it's bound to happen. Grrrr....otherwise smart people just not using their brains.

I hear it all the time at work. I have people that think FICA is a person, but they know that Obama is a terrorist. Sometimes I think this is a episode of Amercian Idol instead of an election. What happens when they let us text our votes in?

Ohmigod, you voted on the policies? Preposterous!

Who is the real Bob Barr? I heard he palls around with congressmen.

Admit it, it was the pimp moustache that closed the deal.

I'm voting Obama because his suits remind me of that cool tv show Mad Men I sometimes watch.

I know people who didn't vote for a candidate just because they didn't like him personally. You can't convince them it's not a popularity contest, and they'll never even meet the candidate. Or that pure emotion is the worst way to choose a president.

For me, this election is for the lesser of two evils.
