I think there is more intimacy in using ropes. The whole process of being tied up puts me in a different mental state before we really get started. Maybe a few tips from my experiences.

1. Make sure your rope is thick enough. Thicker rope will help distribute the pressure across the skin more evenly and is less likely to cut into the skin. That said, the rope shouldn’t be so thick that its bulky.
2. Learn how to tie proper knots that won’t slip… any force applied to the rope should be applied into the knot, instead of into the skin. Many proper knots are surprisingly easy to learn. www.theduchy.com has MANY great tutorials to learn from, and a lot of them are free.
3. As you advance and want to learn more decorative knots, search for macrame patterns… it’s basically rope art. It’s not inherently kinky, but it carries over well.
4. Always have scissors nearby for safety.

What worked for us.
