Reality of Coronavirus Not Allowed To Rain on Donald Trump's Parade

The coronavirus crisis is the price we’re paying for the election of Trump

Many Americans, perhaps most, appear to view the president as a public intellectual or shock-jock media personality. Voters increasingly pledge their loyalty to a candidate who not only articulates what they want to hear, but does so in the way they want to hear it. One problem with this reduction of the presidency — one among many — is that it eliminates nearly everything that the federal government does from political consideration.

I don't blame Trump FOR the corona virus, it is Mitch's fault! IF he had supported Obama when the Russians were fucking about for Trump, we would have had a war mongering Obama 3.0 President now.

No Trumpski is not to blame for covid-19, he just made it worse!

Coronavirus updates: Coronavirus infections in U.S. top 500

The number of coronavirus cases in the United States topped 500 on Sunday as federal, state and local officials throughout the country tried to reassure citizens of public health plans to deal with the ongoing outbreak. The U.S. State Department urged all American citizens to avoid cruise travel as a cruise ship hit by the coronavirus remained 10-12 miles offshore near the port of Oakland.

Here is a breakdown of the number of cases in the most affected countries (Full list is here):

China: 80,699 cases, 3,097 deaths

Italy: 7,375 cases, 366 deaths

S.Korea: 7,314 cases, 50 deaths

Iran: 6,566 cases, 194 deaths

France: 1,126 cases, 19 deaths

Germany: 1,018, 0 deaths

U.S.: 516 cases, 21 deaths

Next, Mike Pence was put in charge of silencing the truth.

Trump's paid liars are louder than usual.

I do not listen to Trump, if I can avoid hearing his voice.

Some media networks are kind enough to provide a still picture
of Trump's propaganda session, and tell us what he said.

The film clip of Trump of Trump at the CDC was painful to view.

What is good for Trump in Trump's Alternative Universe,
looks grotesque to the real world.

The Director of the Center of Disease Control should have dignity
and independence. The Secretary of the U.S. Health and Human
Services should be someone that American citizens can trust.

Orders from Mike Pence-

Do not upset Trump, do not contradict Trump, do not "surprise Trump.

Alex Azar and Robert Redfield are revealed as greedy, craven cowards.

They let him lie to the American public, and use them as puppets,
in his propaganda producing session, and use the CDC as a stage
backdrop.( Let's face it- it was just another campaign commercial.)

Diseases at the National Institutes of Health, quoted as saying-

bodysong comment-
Is there another reason for the country's health leaders to
demonstrate submission to Trump ?

Trump agrees to access to power and White House resources, but they
have to do something for him. They have gained the highest public offices
and visibility, they are betraying their oaths of their offices, and responsibility
to American citizens. For what ? To break the wall between religion and
government. There are so many cracks in the wall, thanks to Trump.
He gives the Evangelical Christians everything they pay for.
Mike Penceis their top Evangelical political leader.

Evangelical Christians have direct line to White House

Heather Digby Parton has noticed what other journalists have studied-

March 9, 2020

The Big Question-

Is the Christian right now in charge of public health inside the
Trump administration? CDC director Robert Redfield and other
important public health officials are Pence-approved evangelical
Christians.

U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams, for instance, is a Mike Pence
crony who previously served as the Indiana state health commissioner.
He was intimately involved in the horrific HIV outbreak in that state,
where Pence refused to authorize a needle exchange program until a
number of people had died unnecessarily. Naturally, Trump appointed
him surgeon general.

Redfield and Birx are both evangelical Christians who have been associated
with HIV research for many years, going back to the 1980s. Birx runs PEPFAR,
George W. Bush's global AIDS initiative, and both she and Redfield have been
involved with Children's AIDS Fund International, which lobbies for abstinence-
only sex education around the world.

The Washington Post reported back in 2018 that they belong to a
network run by an important power broker in the evangelical world:

Evangelical activist Shepherd Smith

[His wife] Anita Smith is now a consultant within PEPFAR to
Deborah Birx, a physician and ambassador at large who oversees
program's estimated $5 billion annual budget. Birx is also a former
board member of Children's AIDS Fund International and served
until she was hired by the CDC in 2005, a PEPFAR spokesman said.

Anita Smith was hired by Birx to "improve prevention programs aimed
at preteen girls."

Mike Pence's Evangelical Christian team

But behind the scenes, Pence has developed his own sphere
of influence in an agency lower on Trump’s radar: Health
and Human Services. It’s also the agency with the ability to
fulfill the policy goal most closely associated with Pence
over his nearly 20 year career in electoral politics:

de-funding Planned Parenthood.

Numerous top leaders of the department —
including Secretary Alex Azar, Surgeon General Jerome Adams
and Medicaid/Medicare chief Seema Verma — have ties to Pence
and Indiana. Other senior officials include Pence's former legislative
director from his days as governor and former domestic policy adviser
at the White House.

Azar, who succeeded ousted HHS Secretary Tom Price in January
2018, was a top executive at Indiana-based drug company Eli Lilly
when Pence was governor; Verma was his Indiana health adviser,
and is now championing Medicaid reforms around the country
that he embraced in Indiana; Verma’s deputy chief of staff, Brady
Brookes, is Pence’s former Indiana legislative director; Adams,
the surgeon general, is a former Indiana public health official.
Rebekah Armstrong, who oversaw domestic policy in the vice
president’s office at the start of the Trump administration, is
also now stationed at HHS’ legislative affairs office.

Trump decided to attack Democrats in New York and Virginia
for pushing controversial legislation expanding women’s access
to abortions later in pregnancy, and made the issue a feature of
his State of the Union address.

Trump slammed after news breaks of a potential fracking bailout

“The fracking industry has been on the financial ropes for years
because their business model is to flood supply and then push for
artificial demand,” said Hauter. “Using a worldwide public health
crisis to bail out the fracking industry now would be a disgraceful
waste of taxpayer dollars, and would spell further climate calamity.”

The federal assistance is likely to take the form of low-interest
government loans to the shale companies, whose lines of credit
to major financial institutions have been choked off, three people said.

New report reveals the bewildering reason Trump is ‘reluctant’
to declare an emergency over coronavirus

(He will not make an appology.)

Trump believes calling it an “emergency” would go against his
prior insistence that the coronavirus outbreak was no worse than
the yearly flu.

He doesn’t want to declare the emergency, said a “Republican
who speaks to Trump,” because it “contradicts his message.”

"...because he believes it would “contradict” his message
that his administration has the virus under control."

I happen to be in New York at the moment, and they've just declared a state of emergency across the city. I was supposed to be going to see a show on Broadway this evening, but that's now been cancelled.

And the stock market's dropped like a stone. This looks like it's going to be a difficult few months.

But isn't it great to have a deranged man child in charge of the federal government during a global health crisis?

I know that hearing the orange bozo address the problem gives me a sense of well being that must be like the effects of mainlining smack

The thing is, half a century of Republicans bleating "Government can't do anything right" all the time has had an effect. Trump's base isn't going to see anything wrong with what he's done here, as everywhere else. But I'm cautiously optimistic that it will hurt him outside of his base, as it certainly should.

Surely, even the most devout Trump followers will at least have their confidence shaken a little if he really balls things up? It might be an Emperor’s New Clothes moment for some people?

I sure hope so. But I recently read a book about the 2010 BP spill, and the locals in Louisiana were quoted as saying things like "it happened because of regulation, if the government hadn't been looking over BP's shoulder they would have policed themselves and done a better job of it."

Then again, we only need a few defections in the right states to send Trump back to Atlantic City. I've already heard about one family in Pennsylvania that has turned against him because the father got sick and learned Trump had been lying about the availability of tests and such.

Tarmac!

FWIW the Orange Buffoon's xenophobic response is MAYBE the most sickening thing he's ever done. OK no, putting kids in cages. No wait, Helsinki. No, denying a pandemic and blaming it on "foreigners" is the worst. Endangers the whole world. He's a disgusting human ball of slime.

It's a hoax, a witch hunt, Obama's fault, Benghazi!

White House officials said there were no plans to test President Donald Trump for coronavirus, even though he was photographed standing next to an aide to the Brazilian president who tested positive for the virus this week.

But many other people who met with President Jair Bolsonaro and his communications secretary, Fabio Wajngarten, who tested positive, have already announced they will be self-quarantining as a precautionary measure.

* The Miami Police Department’s entire motorcycle patrol unit is going into self-quarantine, because they were served as security for Bolsonaro, and “were in contact during photo-ops or might have shaken hands,” Miami’s police chief told the Miami Herald.
* The mayor of Miami, and the mayor of nearby Miami-Dade County, are also isolating themselves after the visit, the Miami Herald reported.

* So are two Republican senators and Trump allies: Florida Sen. Rick Scott, and South Carolina Sen. Lindsay Graham.

The whole White House needs testing. The Australian Home affairs Minister just got back from a few days in Washington and promptly developed symptoms and tested positive for the virus today. He was having visits in Washington with Border security chiefs which included extensive meetings with William Barr and Ivanka Trump, both of whom of course are close to Donald Trump.

I maintain Trump is living in a Hazmat suit and getting tested 24/7. Of course, if he is tested or has it we will never know because they will lie.

A research project in Seattle tried to conduct early tests for
the new coronavirus but ran into red tape before circumventing
federal officials and confirming a case

March 11, 2020

On the other side of the country in Seattle, Chu and her flu study
colleagues, unwilling to wait any longer, decided to begin running
samples.

A technician in the laboratory of Dr. Lea Starita who was testing samples
soon got a hit.

“I’m like, ‘Oh my God,’” Starita said. “I just took off running”
to the office of the study’s program managers. “We got one,”
she told them. “What do we do?”

Members of the research group discussed the ethics of what to do next.

“What we were allowed to do was to keep it to ourselves,” Chu said.
“But what we felt like we needed to do was to tell public health.”

https://www.boston.com/news/health/2020/03/11/coronavirus-testing-delays

They decided the right thing to do was to inform local health officials.

The case was a teenager, in the same county where the first
coronavirus case had surfaced, who had a flu swab just a few
days before but had no travel history and no link to any known
case.

The state laboratory, finally able to begin testing, confirmed the
result the next morning. The teenager, who had recovered from
his illness, was located and informed just after he entered his
school building. He was sent home and the school was later
closed as a precaution.

Later that day, the investigators and Seattle health officials gathered
with representatives of the CDC and the FDA to discuss what happened.
The message from the federal government was blunt.

“What they said on that phone call very clearly was cease and desist
to Helen Chu,” Lindquist remembered. “Stop testing."

“Here’s the deal,” Irwin Redlener from the National Center for Disaster Preparedness began. “We don’t know for sure that the virus is going to be less prevalent when the warmer weather happens — we don’t know that. You know, the speculation, this is true for some virus, this is a new virus, it is a novel virus. We don’t understand the behavior.”

“You were talking about the ability to control this in Hong Kong and Singapore, et cetera,” he continued. “It’s not just because they have a controlled society, in society. These are the places where is they started early testing and separating people. I want to give one piece of data: the United States of America has tested 5 people per 1 million compared to 3,600 people per million in South Korea.”

“I wish I could use the language but I’m on television, but this is a phenomenal disaster for us. Not only did we start late, which got me worked up eight weeks ago, but it’s still not fixed,” he added. ” This is a level of incompetence in the public health system that Americans have never seen before. You know, you remember whatever his name was? Michael Brown with Katrina and his job there was questionable. That was nothing compared to the problems we’re having right now in messaging and technology. This is an international embarrassment.”

Thousands of people are going to die, Trump knows he'll be blamed and he can already see his campaign circling the toilet. Those realizations were all over Donald Trump’s face on Wednesday night as he addressed the nation from the Oval Office. His speech was monotonal, his face so frozen with failure and fear that he looked like the product of taxidermy. He knows he is staring into the maw of a beast he can’t control. It’s going to be impossible to tweet away all the deaths that are coming, and he is terrified.

The question that sprang to mind as I watched him epically fuck up the most important moment of his presidency was this: What’s going to happen when the numbers of coronavirus deaths begin to climb, and his numbers begin to tank?

They will.

He’s not going to be able to stop the pandemic from killing thousands of Americans, and this lawless maniac is capable of anything. With the NBA and Major League Baseball suspending their seasons, with “March Madness” canceled, with concerts and festivals and parades canceled, Broadway theaters closed, schools shuttered from coast to coast, and the fact that we have no idea how long the coronavirus epidemic will last, Donald Trump is fully capable of making plans to cancel the election in November to save himself.

Trump is sitting there in the White House and, as dense as he is, even he can see that every day that passes, indeed every hour that ticks by, is another marker in his long downhill slide. His poll numbers are destined for the tank. He’s going to look into the unblinking eye of the camera day after day during this crisis, and it will be right there on his face that he is clueless and afraid. His ability to “drive the narrative” is over. “Fake news” caught up with him. There is nothing he can do with his tweets and lies to stop what’s about to happen to him, and to us.

The tragedy is that it didn’t have to be this way. Republicans in the Senate had a chance to rid us of Trump, but they were too afraid of him to act. Now we’re stuck with this monster. Their craven cowardice and disregard of the truth is going to cost us dearly. Companies will go bankrupt. People will lose their life savings, their houses and, sadly, their lives because this man is in the White House.

His re-election campaign is in the emergency room waiting to see a doctor, but they’re all busy treating the people who are sick or dying from his criminal negligence, cruelty, ignorance and shame. It’s only March, and Trump already needs a respirator. He’s finished. He’s a dead man stumbling toward a certain political grave — and the brutal judgment of history that he is the worst president this nation has ever had.
