As Twain put it so well. truth is stranger than fiction. It has to be. Fiction has to make sense! Once upon a time slash fiction went mainstream ! Today's you couldn't make this stuff up if you tried Department -- this week on: Is it a Fan fic, or an Actual Published Book
Captain Spock and Ensign Kirk must work together to stop the destruction of their universe, all while dealing with Kirk’s drug addiction and the sudden appearance of a strong mental bond between them (despite the fact that they never met before).
Rated G for very very Gay
Believe it or not, this was an actual published Star Trek novel, “Killing Time” by Della van Hise in 1985.Van Hise was actually a slashfic writer recruited to write original Trek novels by the Pocket Books, and the original draft she turned in had a ton of slashy content. Naturally, this was cut out by Pocket Books, but by accident, the original draft was published, filled with tons of slashy implications Kirk and Spock are true loves. One of the more bizarre moments in the history of licensed Trek novels.
The book was, of course recalled, but not before a fair number of them escaped into the wild. The original ed has an embossed cover and on page 41 the words "lipstick" and "doll" so happy hunting at the thrift markets!
Does this give all the authors her hope that one day our efforts will come to the attention of a giant like Pocket Books? Let's hope so!

Thank you for sharing, this is hilarious. I wonder how "accidental" it really was. Wiki says:

"...the pages with the slash fiction were marked to be edited out of the eventual novel. It was returned, but at the time Pocket Books were between editors as Mimi Panich had just left, and her replacement Karen Haas had not yet arrived. At some point, someone went through the manuscript and marked the pages which Paramount had asked to be removed with the letters "STET", which is a Latin term used by proofreaders to tell the printer to disregard earlier changes."

Thanks for this thread. I loved reading this. Long time Star Trek fan but I'd never heard of this novel before. The idea of Kirk-Spock slash fiction is great. I didn't know what it was until you posted this and I looked it up.

So what are the best slashfic couples in TV history?

Some ideas:

Skipper and Gilligan, obviously
Andy and Barney from Andy Griffith
Fred and Barney from Flintstones
Laverne and Shirley
Cliff and Norm, Cheers
Fonzie and Richie, Happy Days
Frazier and Niles (incest, too!)

Turns out a friend of mine had a copy of this, before their parents "helpfully" tidied up and took it to an op-shop.
