Re-Uploading a Story after "New" but Not Published

I uploaded a story last night that I thought was "done done", slept on it, and woke up bolt-upright this morning realizing that a couple of opening paragraphs were setting me up for reader feedback disaster.

Okay, fine. It wasn't the end of the world, it would still be "pending" in the morning and I could upload the revised version and it would push me to the back of the queue. No harm done.

Nope. Log on and discover it tagged "new" and scheduled for publishing in two days, albeit still in the "pending" folder, as usual. Uploaded the corrected version anyway.

So... did I screw myself, where the "disaster" version is going up regardless, and the revised version is now at the end of the manual edit replacement queue, like 4-5 weeks away? Do I need to message Laurel?

Just delete the original even if it’s tagged new

You can pull a story any time until published

Don’t expect such a quick turn around in receiving that new tag (to quote @StillStunned) you utter bastard

Now I might have just answered my question, but I'm not certain. The submission header disappears on a published story where you can't edit things like description or content tags. If it's still pending, you can still mess with the submission page and re-verify, with the caveat about editing pushing it back in the (original) submission queue. I just checked, and the date for the story is now indicating this morning's upload. I'm leaning toward a "Whew!" at this point.

My concern is that once a story is tagged "new", it goes into a silo that simply gets dumped on the declared publication date. But maybe not, there's only one version of the text in the database. I guess I'll find out soon enough!

I did this with a story, edited it after it was accepted but before it got published. It just went back into the Pending queue. It was an event so I got re-approved pretty quickly. I think I made a note that I had made a few tweaks to the manuscript.

I had a recent story I submitted just before going to bed. Over night, I realized I never put an author's note on it thanking my reader, who helped me make significant changes to the story. I reached out to her and she said to ignore it, so I let it ride. It still bothers me, but I avoided your issue. I was hoping to have another need to edit the story, so I could slide that in. (Sorry again @TheRedLantern )

If you have comments enabled, you could post a comment thanking the reader. Pretty low effort.
