Misc comments:-
Pure:
"Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell is calling the founder of the online site WikiLeaks a "high-tech terrorist" for releasing classified material from the U.S. government.
McConnell says that the online release of secret diplomat exchanges has done "enormous damage" to the country and to its relationship with its allies. "
From over here, that looks like rubbish (undoubtedly for the purposes of getting re-elected next time). Enormous embarrassment, possibly; damage ? I doubt it.
DZ:
" I find it interesting that, apparently, "governments" have the power to shut down the wikileaks servers, but they don't have the power to shut down torrent sites offering stolen music, movies and software. "
This kinda reminds me of a certain dichotomy. That various States make Laws to ban a variety of things (Prostitution, for example, or PayPal's opposition to erotic writing), and yet the US is the source of some wild Pornography which breaks its own laws.
--------------
Take this example (from the Guardian website):-
" We and Karzai agree the British are not up to the task of securing Helmand, but we also think the expected arrival of additional U.S. combat brigades this spring and summer, in tandem with the constant flow of newly-minted Afghan troops to the field will provide an adequately secure environment for the election."
Could I suggest "red faces all round" at this revelation ?
I'll not comment upon what's likely to be in many English hearts. It's not likely to be polite.
