Racism & South Asian Americans:people of the Indian Subcontinent and the Middle East

:p

Wise words, indeed, and much needed during this time. And unfortunate that most people can be so uneducated - I've personally known a number of Sikh Americans and they are among the kindest, most compassionate, peace-loving peoples one could ever hope to meet.

On the other hand, racism is not unique to the United States. I learned that the hard way as a white woman traveling to Jamaica. The concept that everybody but Americans are tolerant and open to other races is not a true one.

Right now there is a lot of confusion, a lot of anger, and people have nowhere to direct that anger. Unfortunately, if this incident of terror points more and more toward Arab involvement, then acts of violence and hatred will increase against anyone who people think looks like they are from the Middle East. Yes, it is horrific in itself, and we can only hope that clearer minds will prevail.

Do you make ignorance a goal? Why would you seek to rub salt in open wounds? Have you no compassion, no simple human sense of empathy?
