Think we can all agree that A.i. has killed off the music world but what about for books? Can someone still make a career out of being an aauthor?

My local library, which is also the central library, barely has any books. The librarians are all losing their jobs since most new books are ebooks.

A lot of live music venues are going under, mostly because of streaming. Some are doing go fund me, just to try and stay alive.

Technology has changed lots of things in the last few years, and not all of it is for the better.

I wish ... not I pray that Im wrong. What bands are on the road?
Yes. https://www.yesworld.com/2025/06/the-ablum-series-tour-2025-fragile/

The Who: https://www.thewho.com/the-who-announce-their-north-american-farewell-tour/

Led Zeppelin: https://aesplora.com/2025/06/02/led...tour-dates-and-cities-revealed-one-last-ride/

Among many others including Epica, Ayreon, Nightwish, TSO .....

Rick Wakeman is doing a few shows also.

There was just a mass gathering of Post Rock bands in Indiana. There are symphonic and progressive metal festivals in various parts of Europe.

Nane a band that can host a tour like Def Leppard/Journey?
Saw Greta Vann Fleek not too long ago. Bunch of kids very much in the vein of old classic anthem rock; Aerosmith, Motley Crue. Pretty sure they're working on their next album right now, but I'd be surprised if they're not on tour again soon.

EDIT: Here's a link to their first hit, Highway Tune.

Journey Tour 2026: 120 Shows & Deep Cuts Ahead

Oct 1, 2025 Journey is gearing up for an epic Journey Tour 2026 that promises to be unlike anything fans have seen before. Guitarist Neal Schon confirms approximately 120 shows spanning 2026-2027, featuring much longer sets and deep cuts from their catalog starting with the 1978 era.

Books as a medium are threatened by things like Kindle and Audible, neither of which involves AI.

AFAIK AI music is yet to make inroads on the charts. If you know better, please share.

The rise of touring music, although initially a response to streaming, is a way for people to favour real artists instead of slop.

but what about for books? Can someone still make a career out of being an aauthor?
Probably. It might be harder, because the equivalent of touring does not exist, but I think people will still favour "real" authors.

not following, what do you mean by that? The venue was too large, making it impossible to sell out.

I mean that mass market corporate music designed to appeal to the widest possible audience drains funding from small venues and niche genres, blocks any pathway to success for newer, more innovative audiences and inevitably leads to a deterioration of quality over all.

Being a musician (preferred playing guitar), Def Leppard was an eye-opener as women liked their music. you see the band on tour and it wasn't a sausage festival like a Megadeath tour. Let's face it, women look better, have an attractive scent, they are fun to talk with, touch ... plus women taste better ;) hehe

I think reality TV (American Idol, The Voice) has done more damage to quality music than AI (at this point anyway).

Books as a medium are threatened by things like Kindle and Audible, neither of which involves AI.

I read an interview with Stephen King several years ago, in which he was asked what the future of books was, in light of the move to digital media.

I don't recall precisely what he said, but the gist of it was an analogy of books to horses. He said that horses were once seen largely as disposable objects, used to perform particular tasks and readily discarded when they were no longer of use. But once horses were superseded by motor vehicles, they gained in stature as beautiful things to be cherished and admired.

King postulated a similar future for printed books. He pointed out that the vast majority of books were treated as disposable, to be read once and tossed aside, but once they were no longer the principal source of reading material, they would become more venerated as heirlooms and collectible art objects.

Given the number of box sets and special editions on the market these days, I think he had a point.

Earlier this year, I attended a festival featuring over 70 performers. Next year's edition has >40 announced so far.

Much better than a gig at your local AWS data centre.
