Well, George is gone. I really enjoyed his music and personality. What was the first Beatle, or George Harrison song you heard? Was it good times when you heard it or what?
Favorite Beatle?
Who gives a shit?

**Favorite Album-----Sgt. Peppers**

I'm not a big beatles fan....but of all the songs that I have heard of theirs.....Hey Jude would have to be my fav.....

Reason bieng? It was a song that me and my bro and a few friends used to play when we were all hangin out.........Every time I hear it, it reminds me of times up north.

I had the same idea

I came on here to create a George Harrison tribute thread. Looks like i was beaten to it. I am only 21 so i don't remember the first Beatles song I heard since I was probably only a baby. But i have always loved them. Here's to George always a great tallent, both with and without the Beatles. You will be missed George.

Blackbird. . .

My father used to play "Blackbird" (The White Album) on his accoustic guitar when I was younger, and impossible to get to bed. I've been a Beatles fan ever since. It's a Sad Sad day in Music.

George. The sensitive one. A genius in his own right but often overlooked. We are nearing the end of an era. Two down and two remaining.

Goodbye and thank you Mr. Harrison.

Thank you George for giving us decades of beautiful music. Your music and memories will live forever.

All Those Years Ago
-composed and sung by George Harrison

I'm shouting all about love
While they treated you like a dog
When you were the one who had made it
so clear
All those years ago.

I'm talking all about how to give
They don't act with much honesty
But you point the way to the truth when you say
All you need is love.

Living with good and bad
I always look up to you
Now we're left cold and sad

By someone the devil's best friend
Someone who offended all.

We're living in a bad dream
They've forgotten all about mankind
And you were the one they backed up to
the wall
All those years ago
You were the one who Imagined it all
All those years ago.

Deep in the darkest night
I send out a prayer to you
Now in the world of light
Where the spirit free of the lies
And all else that we despised.

They've forgotten all about God
He's the only reason we exist
Yet you were the one that they said was
so weird
All those years ago
You said it all though not many had ears
All those years ago
You had control of our smiles and our tears
All those years ago

God Bless George!

Oh Crap.

This is so sad.

I am not sure that I am all wanting to get into what my favorite songs and stuff are.

:(

And then there were 2 ....

"The Long and Winding Road" and "While My Guiatar Gently Weeps" are the 2 songs that immediately came to my mind when I saw this thread.

I'm old enough to remember when the Beatles first came to the US. My older sister swooning in front of the old b&w tv when they appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show. Moptops that's what they called them. So many memories.

Yes, Blushing Rose, he was the quiet, sensitive one, though, he spoke through his music. He was quiet in speech, but his voice was powerful in song.

I can remember the first time I heard "Something". It's such a stirring song - his heart was in full view of the world. The song I'm posting is a very special one to me. Please listen with your heart.

"Within You, Without You"

We were talking - about the space between us all
And the people - who hide themselves behind a
wall of illusion
Never glimpse the truth - then it's far too late -
when they pass away.

We were talking - about the love we all could
share - when we find it
To try our best to hold it there - with our love
With our love - we could save the world - if
they only knew.

Try to realize it's all within yourself no one else
can make you change
And to see you're really only very small,
and life flows on within you and without you.

We were talking - about the love that's gone so
cold and the people,
Who gain the world and lose their soul -
they don't know - they can't see - are you one
of them?

When you've seen beyond yourself - then you
may find, peace of mind is waiting there -
And the time will come when you see
we're all one, and life flows on within you and
without you.

It's alright now, George.

I can't say which song is my favorite I love too many to try and pick out one.

but I remember, I think I was around five years old, when My Sweet Lord was on the radio. It was the first song I remember hearing. It changed eveerything.

All things must pass

RIP my darling George .... you are with your sweet lord now.
______________________________________
My sweet lord
Hm, my lord
Hm, my lord

I really want to see you
Really want to be with you
Really want to see you lord
But it takes so long, my lord

My sweet lord
Hm, my lord
Hm, my lord

I really want to know you
Really want to go with you
Really want to show you lord
That it won't take long, my lord (hallelujah)

~George Harrison~

"While My Guitar Gently Weeps" is my favorite. I still love that song. I knew he was ill, but was hopeful that things would turn around. The Beatles were such a part of my growing up, their music has always been an important part of my life. A very sad day for music.

Weeping Guitars

I was just a little bugger ('75-'76?) and remember an arguement in school: who was the better guitarist, George Harrison, Pete Townshend, Eric Clapton. Never answered, of course.
But having been born even as the Beetles were breaking up, I guess I prob'ly heard my first songs in uetero. I imagine there are weeping guitars all over the world.

This is the first I heard about this. This is very sad. The Beatles were a large part of my youth - and their music still resonates in me. First John... now George.

From CNN:

Beatle George Harrison dies

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- George Harrison, the lead guitarist in the most influential pop group of all time, The Beatles, has died aged 58, his spokesman confirmed to CNN.

Harrison died in Los Angeles at 1:30 p.m. (2130 GMT) on Thursday after a battle with cancer, spokesman Geoff Baker said, but further details were not available.

His family issued a statement saying: "He left this world as he lived in it, conscious of God, fearless of death, and at peace, surrounded by family and friends. He often said, 'Everything else can wait but the search for God cannot wait, and love one another."'

"He died with one thought in mind -- love one another," friend Gavin De Becker told The Associated Press, adding that Harrison's wife, Olivia Harrison, and son Dhani, 24, were with him when he died.

His former band-mate Sir Paul McCartney told the Press Association: "I am devastated and very very sad. We knew he'd been ill for a long time.

"He was a lovely guy and a very brave man and had a wonderful sense of humour. He is really just my baby brother."

Fellow Beatle Ringo Starr paid tribute to Harrison, telling PA: "We will miss George for his sense of love, his sense of music and his sense of laughter."

Harrison was known as the quiet one of the Fab Four, which conquered the world with 27 number one hits in the United States and Britain.. His credits with The Beatles include the songs, "Taxman," "Here Comes the Sun" and "Something," the latter described by Frank Sinatra as the greatest love song of all time.

The youngest member of the world's most famous pop group will always be remembered for his devotion to Oriental mysticism. It was he who persuaded the other Beatles to fly to India and sit at the feet of the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

After The Beatles broke up in 1970 Harrison produced a few solo albums, and was the first of the four to top the UK singles charts as a solo artist with "My Sweet Lord." Later he helped form the group The Travelling Wilburys.

With Harrison's death, there now remain two surviving Beatles, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. John Lennon was shot to death by a deranged fan in 1980.

In 1998, when former smoker Harrison disclosed that he had been treated for throat cancer, he said: "It reminds you that anything can happen."

The following year, he survived an attack by an intruder at his mansion in Henley on Thames, Oxfordshire.

He was stabbed several times and suffered a punctured lung. In July 2001, he released a statement asking fans not to worry about reports that he was still battling cancer.

It wasn't immediately known if there would be a public funeral for Harrison. A private ceremony had already taken place, De Becker said.

Lennon's widow Yoko Ono paid tribute to Harrison, who she said brought magic to the lives of those who knew him.

"George has given so much to us in his lifetime and continues to do so even after his passing, with his music, his wit and his wisdom," she told The Press Association.

"His life was magical and we all felt we had shared a little bit of it by knowing him.

"Thank-you George, it was grand knowing you."

Sad Day in the Music World........

I was watching E! when the news broke in at about
nearly 4am EST USA about George Harrison passing
away from brain cancer. What a sad day in the music
world......he was not only part of one of the best
bands in music history, but he also was a true artist
in his own right.

I've always loved the Beatles....practically grew up
on listening to their music from when i was a tot....my
parents are big fans......too many of their songs to name
that I enjoy, but one in particular that stands out today
on this day of mourning is "In My Life". One song
that I've loved by George when he went solo was
"My Sweet Lord"......moves the soul!

I do agree with whomever said that "an era is ending".
Two down, two to go. Again, a sad day in the music
world :(

George.......wherever you are......you are loved the world
over, whether it be with the Beatles, and you, as an
artist...the person you are. We will never forget the
joy and music you brought to the world.

While My Guitar Gently Weeps

I look at you all see the love there that's sleeping
While my guitar gently weeps
I look at the floor and I see it needs sweeping
Still my guitar gently weeps
I don't know why nobody told you how to unfold your love
I don't know how someone controlled you
They bought and sold you.

I look at the world and I notice it's turning
While my guitar gently weeps
With every mistake we must surely be learning
Still my guitar gently weeps
I don't know how you were diverted
You were perverted too
I don't know how you were inverted
No one alerted you.

I look at you all see the love there that's sleeping
While my guitar gently weeps
Look at you all . . .
Still my guitar gently weeps.

I think I've now seen at least 4, maybe 5, threads started about George Harrison. I think its great that people want to remember him and say something - but its a real pain to try and read though everyone wanting to start their own thread.

I think this was the first one posted? How about we try and keep all our comments in one place for a bit of continuity?

Thanks... (might not hurt to review whats on at least the first 2 or 3 pages before starting a new thread...)

Apple

Who could ever say anything about someone who iz only missing the Apple sliced in half in their avatar?

I wish I'd have seen this in the first 2 pages when I logged on...

Dillenger,
I used to ride the bus home from school with some "outlaw" schoolmates...Somehow we started calling each other Beatle names long after they broke up... I wuz George, and that's probably why I always took an interest and an UnderDog mentallity when it came to George within the Beatles...

Wut am I Without You?
:)

With all my admiration...

All Things Must Pass
~Harrison

Sunrise doesn't last all morning
A cloudburst doesn't last all day
Seems my love is up and has left you with no warning
It's not always going to be this grey

All things must pass
All things must pass away

Sunset doesn't last all evening
A mind can blow those clouds away
After all this, my love is up and must be leaving
It's not always going to be this grey

All things must pass
All things must pass away
All things must pass
None of life's strings can last
So, I must be on my way
And face another day

Now the darkness only stays the night-time
In the morning it will fade away
Daylight is good at arriving at the right time
It's not always going to be this grey

All things must pass
All things must pass away
All things must pass
All things must pass away

Thank you for being, George.

*smile*

I remember listening to Abbey road on a cheap plastic turntable in a box and trying to play it backwards to hear the hidden messages... *lol*

I remember a lot. The Beatles were a big part of life for anyone growing up in the 60's - 70's... B

Been watching some of the tributes and news reports on TV... he was a good man - not just a musician...

I was about to, but.....

Dillinger....
Funny thing you mentioned those words......I was thinking
of starting a thread in tribute to George until i saw this
thread......I figured it would be better to post here
than to start up another thread and then people go nuts
trying to check out all the diff. threads dedicated to
"the quiet one".
