R.I.P Barry Humphries :(

Another true character bites the dust...very funny and a nice person too. Sir Les Patterson would be very politically incorrect now but that is an indictment of our repressed society. (Like Benny Hill). Am I that old???

SIr Les P was ALWAYS very politically incorrect... which was kind of the point, and designed to take the piss out of those who thought like he did.

as for Benny Hill, fuck. why is it Americans always name him first when British humour comes up? so outdated and the only thing i enjoyed was his milkman song. not my taste at all.

News flash...I am not American but English! Benny sprang to mind, not because he was the only funny pom I could think of, but because his humour is now seen as sexist and that is taboo it seems. I could name many dozens of Brit humourists from The goon show, beyond the fringe, the goodies, Monty python, the young ones etc etc but everyone remembers Benny Hill (perhaps for the wrong reasons). Sadly little Brit comedy remains on TV here in Australia, airtime is devoted largely to cooking shows, talk shows, reality shows, in fact anything to send one to sleep.
