R.I.P. Amy Winehouse (9/14/83 — 7/23/11)

Just happened. Found dead in her apartment, reason for death unknown at this time.

I knew girl had problems and was a wreck, but didn't think this would happen this soon. Damn.

Amy who?

I saw her in concert in Toronto year's back, a really tiny woman on stage, and between every song she'd take a long swing from her bottle, and the crowd would cheer. It was pretty gross what was happening. My friend said "They're watching her kill herself."

There was a lot of the "let's watch the freak show" element around her, but as time passed and she only appeared to be getting worse, the snickering died down quite a bit, because you can only do that to yourself for so long before you get news like today's. There was literally never any point in the last 5 years where she looked remotely healthy.

The whole thing is sad. It's strange to say this because Back to Black is full of depressing songs, but it helped cheer me up in the period right after my mother died. Too bad that's going to be pretty much her only legacy now.

Although the quote goes "Addiction is a cunning enemy of life...", sometimes it is pretty obvious. This girl never had a chance. Sad...because this end, although inevitable, doesn't mean she wanted this.

my kid called me up as soon as the news broke. She was really upset by it. Such a fucking waste of talent.

There have been dead pools on her for quite a while. Word coming down is some are shocked it took this long.

Oh and I ain't laughing.

It could have been GaGa and all the little want to bees would be drowning now in ntears. The little bird was probably frightened of the power of her own voice. It was a preternaturally powerful voice. You'd kind of bet she had to medicate her way away from that voice. She was haunting ius just as she began to haunt herself. Anybody outy there remember a little bird named Holiday? There's a wiki page out there for the undernourished. They both rode the horses but one rode it better and longer. You can bury the sympathy right along with her. It could have been GaGa and people would now be choking on loads of meaningless product instead.

No big loss to society here. The girl was a trainwreck and a horrible example to young people everywhere. Having said that, I am sure her family is sad right now. I am sure it is like having a family member with a terminal illness that dies. You are sad, but partly relieved that the suffering is over.

Comparing Winehouse to Gaga is unfair.

Gaga started out with a yearning to be the biggest, wealthiest and most famous. Her life is planned and the goals set.

Amy repeatedly expressed that she didn't ask or want or care about fame, rather she was just a musician.

Sounds like a junkies way to die.

Maybe. But Gaga would've liked the comparison. She thought highly of Winehouse.

On another note, "Rehab" went from #42 to #36 single download within the past four minutes on iTunes...

Doesn't surprise me in the least that Gaga thought highly of Amy.

Amy had a gift. It killed her.

What was her gift? To get so wasted that she was booed off stage by people that spents $100s to watch her perform? Was it to publicly flaunt her drug use to the media, thus being yet another negative influence on the world's youth. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

To be honest here, I couldn't name a single song by this individual. I don't think I would recognize her music if I heard it. I know songs from Gag-ga, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, even Beiber, believe me not because I'm trying to because I try my best to ignore today's "music." Honestly I don't know this individual at all other than her name and people always talk about her on message boards. Am I supposed to care about someone I am not familiar with?

Well, at least it is thankfully taking Norway out of the news a bit.

I'm a lot more concerned about what's happening with hog futures on the Chicago mercantile exchange than about this. I am going to go check what's happening with after hours trading.
