I've been hesitant to start this thread because I figured that someone else had already discussed this here and I hate to be redundant. I did a search and it did not show this topic discussed in this forum.

Anyway, last week a girlfriend recommended I rent Quills. She said... "Roxy, this is a guy right up your alley." LOL

The Marquis de Sade has never really held any interest for me, but I watched it and found it to be pretty good. And it did pique my interest...

Has anyone else seen it? Have any thoughts on it?

Actually I like the movie but I think it is because it seemed to bring the darkness of the de Sade into the light.

I had heard of him most of my life but never really gave much thought to him as a real person.

He was a kinky bugger, wasn't he? I thought the casting was excellent, and it was a good movie -- just a sad story.

I saw it. And may even have it somewhere. It was interesting to see the ladies getting off on the smut.

Yes, very sad. I thought they portrayed him as a very sympathetic character. I know very little about him... and nothing really factual. It makes me wonder if he truly was that man or was he something more monsterly?

Not that that's a bad thing... lol

I am a huge Geoffrey Rush fan.

I actually just rewatched "House on Haunted Hill" the other day with him.

"Funky old house..aint it?"

From all i've read on him, he was a nasty fuck. Definitely monster, not man. Sounds like the movie's brushed him up and put ribbons in his curls. :p

Master and i will be renting it this weekend and i can report more definitively then. :D

I'll be anxious to read what you think of the movie, then. Like I said, he never really did hold any interest for me before this, so my knowledge is limited.

My girlfriend thought it was mostly a porn flick, but I didn't think so, at all. And I think I'll have to watch it again, one of these days.

Does anyone have links to his books? I posted them once, long ago but can't find the thread. All I'm digging up is pay stuff. But I know they are on the web somewhere for free.

I did

I did a paper in college on him for a psych class.

He was a monster but a very sympathetic one if that is possible.

Yes, he did enjoy cutting on willing and unwilling women. He was a destroyer of women's spirits which is absolutely and totally wrong.

Thank you, bound.

Destroyer of women's spirits... interesting comment.

Perhaps there are women who want their spirits broken? I have to think on this. I could easily be one of those women...

Anytime :)

on spirits... what's your humiliation tolerance?

How do I answer that? mmmm....

I don't get enough of it. It's a really big part of my sexual appetite that does not seem to get fed often enough or well enough.

Here are 3 better movies...very 1960s-ish but i liked them better.
Marquis De Sade: Intimate Tales of the Dark Prince
Marquis De Sade's Eugene
Marquis De Sade's Justine

the first one actually got me to read philosophy in the bedroom and learn more about him.
:)

Thank you, KC. I'll have to look for them. ;-)

always my pleasure ADR (did you get the chocolate back from AA yet?)

Yes, but not before I was able to get him to call me a slut. Ahhhh... he played right into my hands. LMAO.

KC/ADR

You and I are so different...

You are softer than I, don't you agree? And I mean soft in a good way.

*nods* different but very much the same.

destroyer of women's spirits...

This phrase requires much thinking on my part. And that's not easy for someone like me... LOL. I burn up lots of sugar thinking this hard. Time to break out some chocolate.

Why is it wrong if a woman wants her spirit destroyed? Or at least, squelched a bit?

it isnt wrong.

Maybe I'm not thinking of spirit as much as I'm thinking of will.

Will and ego... maybe that's what it's about for some.

It's too damned early to think this hard. ;-)

(Normally, I just go with what feels right and pleasurable for me and I don't spend time questioning it. Life is too short for that, to my way of thinking.)
