This afternoon, I was stung by a bee on my left hand ring finger, between my wedding band, and my knuckle. It hurt, yeah, yeah, I am a baby, but wasn't bad. I took the ring off for a bit, in case of swelling. Nothing happened, so after an hour, I put my ring back on. I am not allergic to bee's, btw.

Now, this was around 13 hours ago. Around 9 hours after it happened, I noticed my joint was stiffening in that finger. It was extremly tender to bend. After another hour, or so, I noticed it was puffying up, just a tad.

When I noticed this, I immediatly tried to get ym ring off. It wouldn't go past the point where the bee stung. So, I ran my hand under cold water until it was numb, and tried again. Nothing. Then I tried putting soap on it, to make it slick. Again, no go. Well, I gave up, and went back to reading a book. About a nother hour or so later, I noticed it had swelled up a LOT more.

My finger looks like a sausage. The first knuckle has a slightly bruised look to it, while the rest looks normal, but extremly puffy, and fat.

I called the ER, and asked advice, and they said not to worry about coming in unless my finger starts going numb on it's own, or if I start to feel like I can't breath, or my throat starts to feel like it is closing off.

They wouldn't give me any other advice then that. I have had ice on it constently for the last 2 hours at least. The swelling hasn't go down, but it hasn't gone up, either.

Any one have any advice as to what I might be able to do, short of going in tonight, and having the ER cut the ring off, at some completly inflated price of like $300, with no insurance?

My plan in the morning, is to go to the jeweler and get it cut off if the swelling still won't allow me to take it off, but they only charge me like $20 for it, not $300.

Anyway, anyone else ever had a reaction like this to a sting? One that takes hours? How do I make it go down?

Any help is appreciated!

Try a paste of baking soda over the actual sting spot. Also, if your doc says it's ok (you're pregnant, right?) Benedryl might help.

The ER's right, unless you feel numbness, you should be ok. (I am assuming there are no underlying medical conditions like diabetes).

Oh, and elevate your hand a bit while you are sleeping.

Feel better.

As far as I know, benydryl would be fine. I took it earlier in the pregnancy for allergies.

I will see if we have any baking soda.

Thanks

Gilly, I am allergic to bee stinks, but I might have a tip that helps. When my sting swelled up, one of the doctors told me to put a heating pad on it. Don't know if that will help, but it's worth a shot. He also suggested the Benadryl cream for it, but it didn't seem to really make a difference.

Other than that, I don't know what to offer. Good luck.:)

How is it now? Damn. Wierd reaction. Do you have a jeweler who will cut it off? Not many will, for fear of liability if you get hurt.
