Quick question about story categories

Is it possible that whoever approves the stories can change the categorie you chose?

I recently submitted a fourth chapter of a series and put it under the sci-fi and fantasy categorie, but when it got approved a few days ago I saw that it had been changed to the taboo categorie.

Now, to be fair, this fourth chapter contains a lot of incest so I can understand why they changed it (if they did), but the second one contained incest as well and that's still listed under sci-fi and fantasy.

I don't think it's that big of a deal, but maybe some of the readers who were fan of the first three chapters may not find this fourth one because it's listed under a different categorie.

Thanks.

This happens from time to time. The moderators don't always catch everything, but they try to minimize the chances of people accidentally reading about something they have a real objection to. So if your submission fits several different categories (say, Incest/Taboo and Sci-fi/Fantasy), one of which some people find offensive (Incest/Taboo), it should be listed under that category. Your second chapters was probably just an oversight. In the future, you should list any story that has incest as Incest/Taboo.

The stories will all be listed on your submissions page, though. And you can contact Laurel, who deals with the stories -- but be sure to send a private message and NOT an email via one of the links on the site.

For PMs, make sure your PMs are turned on (go to User CP at the top left of this screen, then click Edit Options on the next page, then scroll down to enable private messages). To send a PM, click on the link at the upper right, enter the person's name in the To: field (in this case, Laurel), and explain the situation. Be specific and polite, and Laurel is usually pretty good at getting back to you.

You must have seriously lost the thread of sci-fi & fantasy in that chapter for Laurel to have moved it, or it was a speed-reading mistake on her part.

Incest stories post to Sci-Fi&Fantasy all the time. You also get non-con, lesbian, gay male, so on and so forth. So long as the setting is an alternate world, the rest of the content falls under that umbrella.

First time I've ever heard of a story being moved from Sci-Fi&Fantasy for content. I'm inclined to believe it was a mistake.

That being said, you probably saw a rather large spike in readership for this chapter, didn't you?

You'll have to make a choice. Incest isn't an overly popular theme in Sci-Fi&Fantasy, and Sci-Fi/Fantasy isn't very popular in incest.

More people will read it in incest, but if the story doesn't have incest all the way through ( especially if it's outside the nuclear family ) you'll lose those readers fast.

The readers in Sci-Fi&Fantasy are there first and foremost for erotic stories set in an alternate world. So long as you maintain that, more of that smaller readership will hang around, and they're not going to care ( some may even be relieved ) if the incest content isn't there.

From that ( and any other comments that may arise ) you can decide whether to appeal to Laurel for the chapter to be moved back to Sci-Fi, or whether to leave things as they are. You might even consider moving the whole series to Incest, if you think it's appropriate.

I should imagine that if you bring it up to her ( and you're maintaining the alternate world setting ) that you'll have no trouble moving it back, if that's your choice.

Well, like I said, this chapter contains a lot of incest, but in my eyes it's still about the love between a human and an alien. And for readers who don't like incest, before the story begins I wrote that it contained it so that they would know before they read it.

And no, I didn't necessarily saw a large spike in my readership but I just think that the people who liked the other chapters would think that it would be posted in sci-fi and wouldn't necessarily look for it in the taboo section.

Anyway, thanks for your answers. I think I'm going to send a PM and see if it the categorie can be changed.

Most people who read a multi-part story do so from either your submissions list or from the "also in this series" listing at the end of the chapter. They're all grouped together, so readers don't really have trouble jumping between categories.

There's no real need to do so when you have an overriding theme that fits a category, though. Yours certainly sounds like it has it.

If it's set in a world that's more or less our own, but with aliens, you might even consider Non-Human for that type of story in the future. There are more readers there ( riding on the back of werewolves and vampires, but the readers are there, and enough of them will migrate to other types of non-human stories for it to matter )

If it's set in space ala Star Trek, then Sci-Fi is the appropriate category.
