I am thinking about writing a story that involves some characters from and in Japan, and to make it somewhat believable I need some answers to some questions:

1) What are the predominant attitudes in Japan (compared to the west) with regards to male and female homosexuality and bisexuality?

2) How common is it for businessmen (married and unmarried) in Japan to have a mistress?

3) Are there such things as "nannies" in Japan? If so, how common are they?

THanks.

I know nada about Japan. I believe they all wear glasses and a camera around their necks.

Apparently, downtown Tokyo is ravaged with alarming frequency by monsters that are the result of years of nuclear tests carried out in the Pacific. This seems to happen a lot on Saturday afternoons.

Or Saturday night frights! :D

What, 20 odd years of watching the Saturday Afternoon Creature Feature hasn't provided me with enough cultural insight for ya?

Emperor Akahito:

His Imperial Highness, Akahito, the Emperor of the Japanese Empire, is diagnosed with prostatic cancer!!!! He is 69 years old. The condition is not life threatening.

BONZAI!!!!

2) How common is it for businessmen (married and unmarried) in Japan to have a mistress? Its fairly common for business men to have mistresses, in some circles the 'wife' expects her husband to keep a mistress.

3) Are there such things as "nannies" in Japan? If so, how common are they? Yes some of the richer families have nannies for their children.

THanks.

Let's just say I was looking for less obvious cultural insights. While I appreciate the humor, I would also appreciate some more serious insights too.

What am I? Chopped Liver?

I believe Japanese are more open when it comes to sex than the west, but don't take that as gosple.

I do know that it would likely go very bad for you if you were caught trying to bring drugs into that country. Jap Prison is not fun, and you don't have your constitutional rights in that country.

I plan on going their to train for at least six months at some point in the future, but that is many years off.

If you are writing fiction, Just go with it.

Nobody here with any cultural insights?

Dude, this is a porn site.

Perhaps a "Family Values" porn site, but a porn site nevertheless.

Blessed is he who expects nothing, for he shall never be disappointed

Dude, the information will be used to write a porn story, but part of that story may involve the attitudes about bisexuality and homosexuality in a culture I know little about.

Pardon my lengthy verbiage for saying "I wish I could help, but know dick about Japan".

If I knew Jack Shit, I'd ask him to get in touch with you.

I've only been over three times and I must say that it wasn't a subject that came up in conversation. So I think it's safe to say they are quite private if not conservative.

I'm thinking that nannies aren't quite that common because they still have a lot of single income families. Hubby works crazy hours while wifey takes care of kids. It's changing slowly as more and more women take careers, but it's slow.

From what I've read, I believe that it's common for very well off businessmen to take a mistress in the form of a Geisha (mind you this is based on a couple of novels, so who knows, it could be made up, but I tend to read as much about Japan as possible).

So for the homosexuality stuff, ya got me.

They may be called Geisha in a book, but a true Geisha is an entertainer, temporary companion and not a mistress or prostitute - they do not provide sexual favors.

Well, that's why I said very well off. Geishas had patrons that they were exclusive to that also kept them in the style to which they had become accustommed. They entertained in general, but they 'bonded', if you will, only with one.
