Strange I know, but one that's pretty tought to google up n answer to. Does anyone know if the tradional Christmas tree with decorations was a tradition on the continent, particularly in Germany, or scandinavian countries pre WWII?

Yeah. St. Nicholas chopped a sacred tree down in an anti-pagan gesture. They killed his ass for him. It was Albert who liked the Tannenbaum idea, and Victoria who indulged him.

I know Albert, Victoria's husband brought a Chirstmas tree over to England from (I think) Germany, to start the tradition over here :)

Not sure what time period you're working on Colly, but before electric lights, candles were used (duh!). However, in rememberances passed down from the German side of my family, the tree lighting with candles was a very special, but also very short, celebration because of the fire hazard.

The family all gathered round in the evening, the candles were lit and everyone ooo-ed and ahhh-ed for 10-15 minutes, then the candles had to be extinguished.

One more thing, a bucket of water was kept at the ready, just in case.

I only needed to know if the tree was a custom. I'm trying a litle non erotic christmas story, but it wouldn't have worked if the tree wasn't a custom in Germany :)
