Question regarding the threads the mod moved the other night

This is, of course, a big hooha on the General Board (we're drama sluts for the most part).

I noticed that Native Alien stated at least once that several people PMed her and requested posts/threads be removed. I also noticed a predisposition amongs some people to equate the entire Playground with Native Alien's actions.

So my question.

Do you think that moving those threads was right or wrong?

lol

Maybe they think less about the GB than the GB does about them.;)

Or maybe they're just too busy having a good time.:)

A couple of years ago Rosanne Barr was given the honor of standing on the pitcher's mound in Yankee Stadium in New York to sing the National Anthem opening the day's game. She took that opportunity to scratche her crotch and act like an ass during the song.

EVERYONE was offended by what she did.

That is pretty much what happened the other night. The playground is a different place than the GB. Why? Because the people in the playground have made a conscientious choice to raise above the baseness that exists in the GB and be different. Is different wrong? The people in the playground don't believe so.

Weed is correct when he said the people in the playground don't think about the GB at all. But it seems the GB can't stand to be ignored and went way over the top in retaliation.

As I recall, Rosanne was, at least, woman enough to apologize, something I have yet to see from the GB.

Our baseness? lol
I'd rather be vulgur than be a simpering little whiner.

Or maybe a Vulgur, simpering little whiner? I've seen you posts in the GB.

It wouldn't have been so bad if they had limited themselves to a few threads. Instead they started two pages worth of threads. Should they have been moved? No they most likely should have been deleted or locked.

I agree with that. Native Alien could well have acted better. Moving the threads was not a great thing to do, maybe. Deleting or closing the threads may have been a better move. But this is hind sight.

The overreaction of the GB (who claim to be the older, more senior and wiser) escalated the incident way out of control.

Using hind sight again EVERYONE should have just stopped and said where is this thing going? Why are we really doing this?

Unfortunately...

I don't believe different is wrong, but I do think your comment is somewhat ironic given the prevailing attitude that the Playground is a "community" and the General Board is a "clique".

And it wasn't Yankee Stadium, it was San Diego :D

Any post made by anyone for the explicit and sole reason of insulting another person or group should be deleted, regardless of what forum or section of the site they call home. That's what the moderators are supposed to be there for after all, along with blocking out spam and kiddie porn if someone is stupid enough to post that.

Some of us outgrew childish shit like trying to sink another forum or message board (oooooh how scary) when we were teenagers. For those that haven't outgrown it yet, I shrug, I put them on my ignore list so I can't see their bullshit threads anymore, and I move on.

Ok so it was San Diego. My memory failed me.

I never called the playground a "community" or the General Board a "clique". I have seen that in the threads on the General Board though.

Well maybe a bit of both. I visit the GB pretty much everytime I log onto Lit.

I enjoy the sharp wit and banter of a number of posters there, and I would read many more actual threads posted there than here on the PG.

Is staring polite? Oh well--go ahead.

Jenny_S, I think the "problem" the other night was touched off by the perception on the GB side of things that posters who are known as GBers were being held to a double standard when it came to starting threads over here. As someone who was sort of around, I'd say it was %95 silliness and maybe %5 real vitriol (which no doubt would have died down quickly) until the threads got moved.

Anyhow, it's ancient history now, part of Lit lore, and I'll probably stop by the Ohio thread and say hi one of these days. May the Playground grow and prosper.

See, to me this is exactly the problem and those that start the threads don't get it. Someone starts a thread called "The Eat Broken Glass Game" to make fun of all the games here in the Playground (as if there's no games on the GB???) and a bunch of people sit around typing out what happens if they eat broken glass and they think that's funny, that they are being witty. It isn't witty or funny, it's just annoying and sad. DO those that did all this really have nothing better to do with themselves than jam up a message board with stuff like that?

There are plenty of perfectly intellingent people on the GB, and there are assholes everywhere you go. I'm just happy I now have a bunch of them set to "ignore" and thus they vanish to me forever.

All in all no one will remember any of this a week from now, it means nothing and it barely made a blip in my day, surely there are many others who feel the same. To me it was no big deal, I just feel sorry for those that actually thought all that nonesense was funny in the first place.

Well, when I signed on that night...it took awhile to figure what had happened, so basically just stayed out of it and observed until I tired of watching the circus. Maybe moving the threads wasn't a good idea and have no idea what the motivation was for it--since I wasn't "in the loop" to know that answer. I do disagree with the bogus thread postings and wasting bandwidth, because it seemed like a reaction that a petulant child would do. Since Lit is a diverse melting pot of personalities (and stands by the Free Speech initiative)...I defend the right of people to voice their opinions--I only question the methods in this case. This constant GB vs. PG thing has gotten real old and tiresome. IMHO, any poster on ANY forum here at Lit is equal to any other...anybody that thinks they are better than the next person had better step back and take a good hard look at themselves and re-evaluate their position. Back to the postings that were moved, it obviously stirred up some strong feelings that people felt needed to be vented. I can understand that when these posts began to be moved from forum-to-forum, the fairness and rights to post where one wished were being compromised. I wish the new moderators well, although I truly have not heard of either person and, as such, have no opinion of their character. I come to Lit to chat with friends, unwind, and will let Laurel and the crew take care of the details of how the Boards should be supervised. I feel it is a privilege--not a right--to be able to post here on Lit and am happy that I have that opportunity. Thanks for your time...

To All PGers

I post here infrequently, mostly on the Alaska thread, and I post on the GB. When I logged on yesterday I was quite appalled at what was going on. In fact, some very nice people left Lit because of the whole mess. This hurt me, and it hurts Lit.

I also posted several times on the GB threads going at the time how silly and hurtful people were being. Today, when I came, I hoped that things would have calmed down. I found a rather defensive post by Native Alien to which I felt compelled to respond. I'd like to post my response here also that you will not hear it somehow second hand.

Actually, if you met me in real life you would know I am me. I can talk trash with the best of them when needed. Or I can say things and never open my mouth.
If I so chose.

But ya still haven't answered the question. What kind of person are you in real life?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Excuse me.

I didn't participate in the whole thing but this irked me. And I'm not easily irked.

I didn't like what happened, and I don't see why the whole Playground had to suffer for your bad manners when it could have easily been over quickly; or why the GBers made the PGers stuffer responding to it.

But really, since I know you don't care what kind of person I am in real life I see no reason for you asking this question. No doubt you would use anything said as a tool against whomever said it. I've yet to read the responses.

I also don't see how it is relevant to what happened.

You over reacted to something you didn't like, and the GBers reacted back. It was stupid and childish on both parts.

And now you seem to want to continue it.

Why? What kind of person can't say "Let's just drop this silliness" and move on?

If you wanted to prove yourself the better person the thing to do would be to say "I see where I made some mistakes and where I can improve, but your reaction was uncalled for."

For a lesson in class check out the GBLT and when Etolle first started. She made mistakes. People objected. She reflected, and admitted she could improve without defensiveness or loss of face.

Perhaps if you took the first step, others could do the same?

If what I said offends anyone I am sorry. But reacting defensively never helps and it seems that everyone was doing it, and I'd like Lit to regain it's good humor, my friends to return, and everyone be on good terms again.

Thank you for listening.

I personally believe that no matter what action Native Alien took... ie, moving the threads or removing them, the result would have been the same.

To have left them as they were would have upset/unsettled this board. And why should that be allowed to happen?

I think the whole affair is a sad one, one that will take some time for this site to recover from. I hope that those responsible for posting the threads have learnt something.

Actually Polite, I did apologize for the behavior, and on the General Board none the less.
