I’ve been on lit reading stories for years, but I still have a rookie question.

What do the story icons mean?
H = hot obviously.
Star = average rating
The bar graph icon shows how many people have read the story.
Heart is how many people loved it.
The speech ballon is how many comments.

But the last two I don’t get:

The paper icon is somehow related to the number of words I think? (I prefer shorter stories).

What does the stack of papers icon mean?

I have been wondering this for years.

Actually, the bar graph shows views, not reads. It's impossible to know how many people who view a story read to the end.

The heart shows the number of people who add a story to their favourites, which is slightly different to loving it. You can love a story, give it 5 stars, but have no desire to read it again. (Personally speaking, these days I add stories to a list/lists rather than favourite them, especially if I love them.)

Thank you all very much! Is there a way to determine how long the story is?

I prefer shorter stories to longer ones. But there doesn’t seem to be a way to figure out the length of a story, except for clicking on it, scrolling down to the bottom to see how many pages there are.

Am I missing something?

Once you've opened the story, you should see an approximate word count under the information tab. In the Windows view it's above the stats for rating, views, favourites etc. On my phone it's to the right of those stats. See below.

But no, there's no way of seeing a word count without opening the story.

Thank you very much. You authors never failed to amaze me.

I’ve written a couple of stories, but nothing to the caliber of most of the people here.
