Question for Authors

I've had real problems in the past with my submissions to Lit; when I've written a shorter story I've managed it perfectly. But when I want to do longer stuff I find I have to write everything in advance, else I get bored of it before I've finished it.

It never seems to be enough for readers. I write a story, and people will think i should put out another chapter. I wrote My Date with Shadowcat 313, and people insisted on a second chapter. I didn't want to do it. I suppose people probably had expected a continuation, but I knew how it ended, and I just wanted readers to accept it and move on. No can do, says they, and I say fine, I'll end it, no matter how it pains me to do so, and, well, you asked for it, and you're gonna know, so don't say I didn't warn you. Sometimes there are reasons for me to stop where I stop, mainly because I know how it's gonna go. Fuck.

Scared me at first too, but then ...

It got to where I couldn't sleep. Part of me feared that I was feeding some sick fuck's fantasy and was I was going to be responsible for some sick shit. I know that's irrational thinking but I was bothered to the point I almost deleted it all and started over under a new pen name.
I ended up reading an interview with an FBI profiler who stated that these people aren't driven by stuff like what we write, but by some other mental flaw.

I worried some about encouraging 'bad things' before I posted the first time, but then remembered reading about how the sex crime rate in Denmark went down after they lifted restrictions on porn way back when. Don't know if that's still true - it was in the sixties or seventies when I read it. But maybe I'm helping people NOT to hurt others. Nice to hear the FBI take on it too.

I've never been organized enough to write several chapters in advance. Every story, every chapter I've written, I've started with the intention that it will be a stand alone or the final chapter. But at some point I realize that I have more to say, it's getting too long, or I'm running out of steam and just post what I have and plan to finish it later. I do tend to be long winded. One of these days I'll actually do an outline first.

Every one of my stories has ended precisely where I wanted to end it. There have been some where, I suppose, another chapter could be written to respond to reader requests, but I have never felt the urge to do so. I did write a sequel to one story because I liked the characters so much and I wanted to give them a HEA, which the original story left somewhat ambiguous. I have another character I enjoyed so much that I am contemplating a sequel for her, but it won't be a continuation of the original story--it will be a completely new tale picking up a year after the first story ended. The remaining stories and characters will, in all likelihood, remain as I last left them.

I needed this thread. Thanks to the OP and all of you who have responded.

I'm new here, and as a result of what appear to be contradictions-of-interest between readership, favorites, and voting, I am struggling to determine whether or not to continue my story. I suspect that what I have considered to be "cuckold" does not fit the majority opinion - but that is off topic. If I may also mention, the RAT's (Religious Authorities of Literotica) (but I don't want to call them RAL's. I want to call them RAT's) had certainly done their due diligence of gnawing at me and the story.

Regardless, this thread has given me several things to consider that I otherwise would have missed, but the real take away for me is this:

I sat down and said, "I want to tell you a story." As I have told that story, some have walked away while others remain carefully listening. For those who remain standing, I feel I owe them the story.

This isn't my thread, but I do want to thank you all for your opinions. All the views have been of value to me.

Ah yes, Loving Wives.

There are too many faction in there to please anyone but yourself. It's sometimes even hard to please yourself.

If you haven't got death threats yet, you're in good shape. :D

I posted my first Loving wives story recently. Never realized what a snakes nest posting it would be. At least I hope it's just that category and not how bad the story was. I got PERSONAL attacks in the comments and went ahead and deleted a couple. And yes, got my first death threat and not just me, but my parents and wife.

Is it just the Loving wives category, or what other categories can I expect that kind of reaction from? So far I've done Incest, Non Consent, TV and Fetish. Got some flak in the TV story but nothing like from the LW one.

I haven't written in a lot of categories, but it seems no category has the snake pit of comments that LW does. Maybe Non-con, but it's LW that, at least according to what I've read people say in the forums, has the serious loonies.

I love posting in LW. Every comment I get that's negative means I have hit a cord in some assholes life wishes. The most vehement comments come from those who believe they are inadequate and suspect their wives of wish they could be like those in my stories. The more personal the attacks the better I'm doing my job.

Besides, there is always the delete comment function.

I have actually received very good votes and comments when I have posted there. Except that my stories fit the cat -- they were stories of loving wives. In one case a soldier returning home, which many liked in particular. If you choose to post something other than what the cat's readers are looking for, then live with it.

I believe in freedom of speech. I believe in writing whatever your little heart desires. And I know people don't have to read anything that they find offensive. But inciting hate, although you can, makes it more difficult for writers like me to see our stories reach the readers. Stories about real loving wives. I think cuckold deserves it's own cat so that readers know, going into it, know what they are going to get. I'm not sure why you take such joy in robbing me of my opportunity to have my stories enjoyed just so that you can spread your vile thoughts.

And now I realize I have made myself your target. I'm just a conformist and you are anything but. You have a lot of anger issues and I don't know why. But if you are a writer, which based on your post you are, then you have been given a gift that not everyone has. I would suggest that you use it to entertain and arouse, not offend. But apparently you choose the latter.

So be it.

I like your comment about a different category, that would clear things up. I hope to get around to writing a story about a loving and faithful couple one of these days, but thought I would put it in the erotic couplings category. When and if.

Splitting the Loving Wives category has been #2 on our spinning wheels list of suggesting/requesting a category change for years and years with no change. Rather a waste of computer keying.

Loving wives is a huge misnomer here.

The story you described would fare better in EC or perhaps even romance.

All they want in LW is either for horrible things to happen to the women or for the woman to do something to the husband so the knuckle draggers over there can then suggest horrible things to do to the wife.

Oh, and some usually suggest doing nasty things to the authors as well.

Definitely got some nasty suggestions!

I just went to the story index and looked at the description of the Loving Wives category. Yes, the name Loving Wives is a misnomer. But the description isn't:

"Married extra-marital fun: swinging, sharing & more"

Heck, cucking, and cheating both fit in there! In each of those there is someone having fun LOL.

Okay, since I've been here, new authors, who post in LW, have come here complained and wished for new categories, to split LW up. It will most likely never happen. With 21,473 LW stories already posted, who is going to go back and re-categorize all those stories? You?

You either live with the comments and possible low scores or don't post in that category. If it's a "real" loving wives story, try Erotic Couplings instead.

"Loving Wives" are wives who are "loving" everyone. The term has been around forever (see the Internet and old porn). The central theme is around guys who like to share their wives. For those men who share their wives to guys they feel are more sexually capable, it is cuckold, which is, rightfully, a subcategory or loving wives.

A story about a faithful wife has no business in Loving Wives, nor does a story about revenge.

Loving wives are wives who are aided and abetted by their husband to have extramarital sex.

But that would be a misuse of the word "loving," wouldn't it? If that's the interpretation, shouldn't it be "Wives Who Sleep Around"? Wouldn't have much of anything to do with "love." :D

Maybe "Wives Who Love to Sleep Around". :D

"Loving Wives" seems to change its context when you put it in a groovy 70s font. ;)

You are more of less spot on. The entire controversy would go away if they just renamed the category "Hot Wives", which was the obvious intention.

The problem of the existing stories has been addressed as well. Leave the existing stories where they are, and leave the category active. Create a category for cuckold and one for revenge stories. Then let the original category evolve as it may.

Authors still active could choose to move stories to the new categories, if they're appropriate. It would be a good idea to provide a shortcut to that on the private member page for any story in LW that would expedite the process by not requiring the author to go through the existing, overly complicated editing process.

Click link. Select one of the two new categories. Submit.

That could even be rolled out a month or two in advance of the full public launch of the categories, providing the opportunity for authors to fill out the categories a little before they appear on the main page.

The whole damn editing process should be streamlined that way, but I digress...

But, as SR said, it's so much wheel spinning. It's been a discussion here from the first day I looked into the forum ( a year and a half or so before my join date... Or rather, Dark's join date. Not paying attention to which browser I'm viewing Lit with again )

I get asked to write a continuation to almost all of my stories.

I've written a sequel (or spin off) three times, but other than that I have no interest.

The fun part is the journey. After they the characters have sex, it just gets repetitive and then I'm writing sex scenes which could have easily been used for other original stories.

I like the idea of writing a complete story, but having a character say something that leads the reader to believe that there's a lot more to come in the character's world. For instance a female character might say, "Come on, there's something I've been dying to show you." Then its "The End." It's a finished story but their world still lives on.

Plus sequels typically get far less views than the original, so I don't want to bother.
