Question about piercings

I don't know anybody with piercings any more, so thought I'd ask here.

What are the larger piercings in the ear called, the ones that have an earring that almost looks like a grommet? I'm probably not explaining it very well. I'm guessing you would put in progressively larger earrings until the holes were stretched to the size you wanted them?

Also, on a PA, would it be a ring or a barbell, and would it tear a hole in a condom?

For the earrings, most of the kids I work with just call them plugs.

As for the PA, I've seen both rings and barbells. I doubt a barbell would tear a hole, but I'd worry about a ring.

A friend of mine had a barbell and if things got heated enough they often reported ripping condoms. Just depends really on what they are doing.
