Question about first day of your story

Until last week, it was about 2000 views in the first day. Then I wrote a short stroker in I/T, which did something like 40k in the first 24 hours, if I remember correctly. It still gets more views per day than most of my other stories have in total.

What’s your secret? And send me the link of your story!

I used to get quite depressed seeing stories with numbers like that. But then I realised it was all about the category. Some just have less traffic. I'm still not sure what it says about society that Incest/Taboo is so popular.

There's threads and mentions in other threads about that.

I know, right?

That and cheating wives getting punished.

I’ve done quite a few things in Sci-Fi / Fantasy and that’s a tiny audience in comparison.

It's quite demotivating. My four instalments of The Rivals together have fewer than 5.5k views. My newest story in NC/R has almost half that just today, and more ratings already than any but the first instalment.

Humans suck! And not in a good way!

I don’t keep track of stats, I just hope I don’t get trolled by haters. My first erotic fanfic- Fear, Lust & Vanity- got me serious praise for its detail, original plot, and hot femslash portrayal of ScarJo, Keira Knightley, and Rachel McAdams. A few minor works followed. My second major work- The Rendezvous- nearly got me banned from a website just because I featured a Freezoner as a positive character (the sequel did get me banned, never mind all the other parody of various other religions going on at the site!). I’ve been dancing with fans vs trolls ever since and mostly enjoying it.

Emily’s right though, why do some people not appreciate happy cheaters being rewarded with hot swinging sex?

Now it’s around 54k..? Interesting

I am quite interested in statistics… it reveals something about readership and people. How few people write a commentary for instance…and in what categories..

One of the AH regulars (I forget whom) posted in an older thread that readers comment on the very bad and the very good. If your work falls in the bell curve between those, your story will have high views but low comments. I find that to be very true.

What do you prefer more comments or views or votes?

They are all nice. Comments, especially so being so rare, but what really makes my day is when someone favorites a story and then favorites two or three more of my stories. That means to me that they liked the story enough to check out the rest of my work. It's a good feeling. Favoriting me also, because they want to get notified when I put new work out.
