Question about Emergency Contraception/Plan B

Hello all

I hope that a n00b (but who has been lurking for like a really long time) will be allowed to pose a stupid question, cuz the interweb is a bit confusing lol.

My boyfriend and me had sex 10 days ago and the condom broke. i don't think i was ovulating (day 19 of a 27 cycle, and yes! I use a combination of condom, spermicidal film and calendar method), but to be safe, i took plan B about 3 hours after. We didn't have intercourse since my last two periods, and that was the only time he ejaculated anywhere near my pussy.

I got what I think was my period about 3 days ago - about 1-2 days early (i was due yesterday/today). TMI alert: it was bright red, and i used about 4 tampons, so it wasn't heavy but wasn't spotting. I also took a pregnancy test today using an early pregnancy test, just in case. Negative

I've had some crampings for a while and now I'm experiencing nausea. I don't know if this is normal or just me being really nervous and not eating right and not drinking enough fluids, plus i am a hypochondriac lol , so i think it can be everything and anything .

Can anyone tell me, especially those who have taken plan b (or if there are any nurses or doctors?) whether this is normal, and what else I should expect? Does it mean that it worked? Should i test after 14 days of the 'accident'?

I tried the official website, but they are all pretty confusing

Emergency contraception often leads to 'odd' periods so I don't think you've got too much to worry about - I'm a worrier though so I'd take another test - you could just get a cheapy one. Hope that helps x

thank you! i never did well with hormonal contraceptive (why i am so diligent on 3 methods lol). But when my period isnt 'normal' (aka heavy) i panicked a lot lol.

would you suggest that i wait 14 days after i had sex/the condom broke or longer?

An irregular period after using Plan B is very normal. It is normal for it to come a few days early or even a few days late. It's even ok to spot a few days after taking it as well.

hiya and thanks i am just very confused if the bleeding i had (again sorry for tmi!) was actually my period. it came around when i expected it to, but it was so much lighter than normal, only a couple of tampons for the 4 days.

the professionals i asked couldn't give me a straight answer and understandably i am a bit nervous.

ok I hope I don't confuse you to much but when sperm fertilizes an egg the egg will start to basically mutate and form a blastula it takes a few hours for the blastula to attach to the uterus's wall in so doing it creates an area for it to stay and mature, but if you take plan B then you are making the wall a hazard ground and it will make the blastula very hard to stay connected to the wall...

though the pill is only a preventive you can still get pregnant but the likely hood of that has diminished a lot if the condom broke and you were at the peak of your ovulation cycle *you would know because of the thickness the fluid is down there* you would have a high chance for the pill not to work because your uterus is susceptible but if I read what you wrote right and that you were counting day and you were correct on them then you chance of the pill not working has greatly declined, there is still a chance but the chance is so slim that I would say with 99% certainty that you are not...like I said always that little percent with everything! and your period being lighter has to do with the pill I am sure because it is your bodies way of coping with the chemicals ... as long as the pill was NOT EXPIRED you should be good! ps I am not a dr or anything but it is the field I am going into in biology

i really dont think i was ovulating (which is why i used the spermicide film and condom), but to be safe i took plan b. its the weird period 7 days after taking it that got me freakin out and not knowing when i can test. some plan b websites say 10 days, others say 14 others say 19... i am driving myself crazy!

I have had fine success with film, foam and sponge. Of course every woman should know her body so she had a good idea of when she is ovulating.

there is actually no data backing up that the plan b pill will fuck with your system, it is not going to cause your chances of getting pregnant to lower...depo shots on the other hand do

the timeing in my cycle at the time should have made me safe, but i do know that its possible to miscalculate your cycle and that a lot of things can make you delay your ovulation. i was under a lot of stress and i wanted to be safe so thats why i took plan b when the condom broke. i did not want to depend on the film alone.

the test is supposed to be sensitive (at least thats what the pharmacist said lol) and i do have an appointment soon... thank you and my prayers are with you!!

You cant get pregnant unless youre one paycheck away from bankruptcy and you aint got the rent money. Its true, and the reason there are more poor people than rich. The stress shakes those eggs loose.

ok now I can say it! damn you! I am on birth control and we used condoms and I freaked because my period didn't come for the first 2 day *when it usually does* so I took 6 vit. C pills *3 am, 3 pm* and my period came the next day...yay! sadly though it was the day my bf spent the night! UGH NO FUN! but so happy I got the damn thing...so I am just like you lol
