I wont name the company that sells all the how to write books. Their books reveal squat about anything.

So what I did was start searching the pages of books by notable masters like Dickens and others, for examples of what I wanted to master. Took maybe 5 minutes to hook a fat one.

I just did a lot of reading, took graduate degrees in publishing and editing to get the technicals ingrained, did a lot of writing, entered a lot of contests, and found my own voice and techniques. Stephen King's book is the only "how to" book I've read by an established writer and I didn't do that for writing advice from him.
