Punk rock, Hardcore, Oi!, Garage, Metal, Ska, Indie (and whatever else) Discussion and Anarchy thread

On today’s date in 1977, Motörhead realized their debut album. It was a much different lineup, with Larry Wallace on guitar and Lucas Fox on drums. After Bomber it’s my favorite Motörhead album.

On the same date (August 12th, 1977), The Adverts released this crusher.

The Adverts - Gary Gilmore’s Eyes

Happy birthday to Feargal Sharkey from The Undertones. Born on this day in 1958. Happy 67!!

Also on today’s date…

The Police released their new single on August 14th, 1978.

It was reissued in 1979 and went to number two in the UK. Didn’t even chart in the US… can’t understand why.

The Police - Can’t Stand Losing You

August 14th, 1995 - the britpop battle.

Blur vs Oasis

30 years ago today, Blur and Oasis released brand new singles on the same day.

Blur won out and both singles entered at number one and two respectively. I’ve always liked Blue over Oasis. Don’t hate me!

Well ya can… idgaf.

Too many gigs, lots of tears cheers and fears, but I've survived up til now.

A bit before my time (I first saw The Exploited and Kraut in 1982… also The Who and the Clash in that same year.)

But it was the first of many!

Toy Dolls - Back in ‘79

All the older stuff has gone, mostly large size left. I'll check through what's left and make a list. Tho I have listed it on vinted. So if you have access to that you can see what's left. If not I'll get the list sorted.

Are you the seller called Gildan?

When I was a kid - like 12,13 years old, I listens to music on the radio all the time. There was so much power pop on FM radio, it was amazing.

Elvis Costello, Cheap Trick, The Cars, The Knack, The Vapors.

I loved this song. Heard it maybe 5 times on Z95 (local FM radio). Forgot about it for 20 years and then redound it using the internet.

XTC - Making Plans for Nigel

Released on Drums and Wires, released on this day in 1979.

Another power pop gem. Released on today’s date in 1979.

Nick Lowe - Cruel To Be Kind

Speaking of power pop and Z95, I recall hearing this one occasionally around the same time. Another song I loved, but couldn’t find again till the advent of the internet.

Altho this sez 1976, I think it came out in the 1978/79 timeframe.

Flash and The Pan - Hey St Peter

I never heard this on the radio, and I was late in the game getting into The Jam… but man were they great.

“Life is timeless, days are long when you're young”

Released on August, 17th, 1979

The Jam - When You’re Young

Have three shows coming up in rapid succession.

Supergrass on September 11.
X on September 29
Raveonettes on October 4.

And jamming a week and a half of vacation in there too!

Gonna be a sprint. Prepping some playlists to get my wife ready for this.
