Here in GA, in a little town outside of Atlanta called Lawrencville, at a government middle school, there was a mock election last week. The kids in Miss Flowers participated. After the results, she asked everyone who voted for Gore to come up and take 5 pieces of candy from her bowl. She asked the kids who voted for Bush to come get some candy also, however, they were limited to ONE piece. When one kid complained, Miss Flowers said, "Fine, then those of you who voted for Bush don't get any." By the way, Gore won the election. The message that the parents (who are meeting with the school board THU) got from this is that Miss Flowers was teaching her class that a vote for Bush was bad and a vote for Gore was good.
What she should have done was to make the kids pay for the candy, then she should have taken back EVERY piece and redistributed to her favorite children. If any one complained, she should have said, "Tough, you guys voted Democratic, and that's the way the Democrats work things." If anyone complained, she could have taken out a gun and made them turn over their candy, then sent them to the principal's office (jail). Then a real lesson could have been learned.
