MUSIC:

Amy Grant - Began as a christian* singer song writer, whom after a few christian* albums found that she could make more money serving a secular singer/songwriter. After a few years/dollars she came back to christian* recording but found that it was not enough money and went back to a secular stylings only to fade off into obscurity.

Jars of Clay - Began as an alternative rock/pop christian* band made very little money in the christian market. Amazingly "saw the light of ministry" and thought they would make a larger 'evangelical'* influence on the world by going secular and touring with bands in a hope to 'evangelise'* them, this garnered them them two secular albums before fading off into obscurity.

CREED - Makes no claims of being a 'chrisian'* band yet most in the secular realm derive them to be by secular understanding to be 'christian'*, likewise most christians derive the band to be secular. In either instance the band has found that narrow bridge that seems to have peiople buying from boths sides into thier act. But how liong before they too fade into obscurity.

PEOPLE:

Jimmy and Tammy Faye Baker - Once had a decent respectable minstry in a land far far away a long long time ago, but then thier ministry got a local cable deal, and from that to the big time networks, all too soon the power, money and fame over came them. and now where are they now? Faded in to shameful obscurity.

Oral Roberts - Had a real fair pentecostal outreach ministry, even in the midst of network notority until one fatefull day the draw of money was to much and a 700 foot Jesus stood in front of him and told him "Raise 20 million dollars or I will kill you" which he promptly passed on to his adoring fans. Having fallen short of the goal Oral the next day was found still Alive thus began he shameful fading into obscurity.

Jerry Falwell - A fundamental* christian* preacher who will lash out at whatever the latest popular thing is {tellitubbies, Star Wars 1, spet11/gays lesbians} and as soon as his supportes stop the support payments due to outrage instantly his apologies come out and he sulks his way into obscurity until the next issue can flare him up once more into a frothing rage of inconsistancy.

Its a shame that what were/are fairly decent people corrupted by the draw of filthy lucre and self gain.

Well, you can't judge an entire group of people by those who are motivated by greed and recognition. Of course, I realize that you are not judging Christians and Christianity. I just wanted to make that comment.

Pseudo Christianity? Yes. Recognizable before they made the changes referenced or committed the offenses? In most cases, yes. (That is, if you have some sort of Christian foundation.)

What makes you think they were corrupted by wealth and fame? Isn't possible, even probable that some of them were corrupt long before they achieved fame and/or notoriety?

exactly my intentions meant by labeling them Psuedo-Christianity, and the terms christian and evangelical used in thier lossest{sp} definitions of such. I believe our statemenst are veru much close to the source of the mater.

as for your first staement about judging, its a shame that so many people do base thier judgement on such though. In real life more so than Online but sometimes online as well, I oftern hear comparisons of my christianity so some of the names mentions above :(

I wish more people had a perception like yours, thank you

I would like to see any kind of entertainment, Christian or secular that isn't concerned with money. Whether it is the music, film, television, books, etc, money is the bottom line for them all. With the exception of Todd, none of us is perfect & unless he knows the artists personally, how he can judge them as corrupt? I met Amy Grant on a few occasions through mutual friends & she is a very nice woman. I do like her music, I know she isn't on the charts any longer, but she does have children. Could it be possible that she is being a wife and mother for the time being? Todd, I know you mean well, but you are very judgmental.

Todd,

What about that "sixpence none the richer" band. They were christian then went into denial to punish a wider audience with that "kiss me" song.

Popular music and religion will always be a volatile mix, at best. I think most of the people you cited where business people first, religion was only a means to an end.

...Creed may make no outright claim to be Christian rock but the singer poses as Jesus in every video. He is egotistical as well as annoying.

Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam also did a lot of Christ-like posing(in more than one way) about the time he started his war against ticket-master

Have to agree

I have to agree with you on all counts.
I'mm a pretty conservative guy, however, I am no fan of organized religion.
I've been an atheist for many years.
To bring back a tired quote "religion is the opium of the people"

I'm no communist, no socialist, hardly left-leaning..but these are true words.
What type of people do you think Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell and any of the rest of those snake-oil salesmen on TV appeal to?

I've said the same thing about people like Amy Grant or whoever.
The Christian market is not going to make you a rich person, or even comfortable, it would seem.

With certain people in country if you seem even lightly faithful, espouse some sort of connection to Christianity it gives you a certain cachet. Does any one remember Hanson? how they were supposed to be nice church-going boys?

Actually, Tammy Faye with all her big hair and makeup is still doing TV evangelism. It's almost disgusting in a way.
