I feel like stirring up a debate...

NY (esp NYC) has a huge budget deficeit this year. We have a *lot* of prostitutes. Beyond the fact that my idea would take a while to institute....why not legalize prostitution through bordellos? We could tax the shit out of it (like they do in Nevada) and make a bundle.

Sex is the oldest profession. In some times and places, it was a very respected profession. Why not legalize it in a similar manner to Nevada. In Nevada prostitution is legal in the modern equivalent to a bordello. The ladies there have regular physicals and the customers must pass a blood test. Condoms are used. And the gov't gets its cut through taxes.

Blood test? How long's that going to take???

Sod it, I'm taking a cold shower instead. :p

I don't know where you got your information on Bordellos in Nevada, but it's wrong.

First, they're not "the modern equivalent" they ARE Bordellos and advertise as such -- they also advertise as "Whorehouses" too.

Second, they're not legal in all of Nevada -- specificlly they're illegal in the two most poulous counties, Clark and Washoe.

Third, prostitutes in Nevada pay no more taxes than anyone else -- just as the prostutes in NY probably pay their taxes. (not paying ANY tax will attract more attention than putting "self-employed public servant" as an occupation.

Finally, there is no requirement for the customers to take any type of test, Nor is there any legal requirement for the prostitutes to be tested except for requiring a "Sheriff's card" which requires a test for TB to get.

The houses provide regular testing for their "girls" but there isn't any legal requirement to make them do it.

There is a link from Las Vegas Online ( www.lvol.com ) to a FAQ page about prostution and whorehouses.

That would help as much as the lotteries do states, line politicians pockets.
