Promotion rules should be changed

I get that literolica is a free to read website, but so are a bunch of others like r/erotica and lush stories. What i've been seeing recently is moderators taking the "no promotion" rule very literally. I think literolica should change it like r/erotica's rule, that a line or two of promotion is accepted as long as it is accompanied by a story.

I mean, there's the singular link in my bio (literolica approved) to my smashwords page. Literolica even displays it directly under ur profile pic. (if u put one in)

How many times could someone post that same promotion? In a dozen different threads? Could someone start a thread with a promotion? Reply to every post asking for a story recommendation with that same promotional link?

I think it's an appropriate courtesy to authors to allow links to their writing in their profiles and signatures, but allowing posts promoting outside stories seems like it could throw the door wide open to spam.

Unless I'm confused about what the OP is requesting, I don't see a problem if you have a link to works for sale in your signature, providing you do have stories here to show you're a contributor to the site. If you don't have any work here, then that's where I'd see it as a problem.

OP is asking, I think, for the ability to include promotional links in the story itself. That is, to post an excerpt from a piece for sale elsewhere with a link to the store.

You may be right, my impression was that he wants to be able to post promo links in forum posts. Perhaps because he referred to moderators”.

If that's the case, that's not allowed, I thought he was talking forum posts with a link in his sig.

I'd note that the reference to what is allowed at r/erotica is not germane. Reddit is not a publisher of stories, but primarily functions as a disseminator of linked material.

Bold says they want to put links inside a story and maybe even an incomplete story.

Which appears to be the OP’s intent.
back in a day, and seems mostly "nay" to my original post. However, this one stands out as not even full comprehended my original meaning.

Let's address this one first. SPAM IS BAD. I do not like spam nor will I spam. Spam should be banned.

Put another way, when's the last time you did not watch a Youtube video that did not include the words "This video is sponsored by..."

Other erotica posting communities, such as reddit r/erotica (WHICH I SAID IN THE ORIGINAL POST, STUPID EMILY DIDN'T READ) also BANNED advertisement. HOWEVER, they also added an additional clause:

See that last line there? That's what this post is about. Authors should be allowed to [at least point to] their paid written erotica as long as it accompanies a story.

And to anyone else who did not read that line, go ask yourself why u r even an author if u can't read

huh, I wonder where did the "incomplete story" part come from? is it just a figment of your oversaturated imagination? If you check my published stories, every one of them is complete. It seems you need to go back to middle school and review your logic/math classes, or did you never even have one?

Links shouldn't be allowed IN stories. PERIOD. since it could be phishing. However, the current rules even bans domain names.

INTERESTING FACT: Did you know there's a literolic.com that my chrome redirects me to every time I try to come to literolica? I found a circumvent to the problem by typing https:// in front of the website url

See here's the thing, you've said the website name correctly zero times. So pretty much everyone who reads what you're posting thinks you're dumb. Get the name of the website right and maybe people would be more open to your concept.

Personally don't care. There's already a way to link to your Smashwords, Amazon or Patreon. There's a text entry field to tell your readers that as well. There are authors who say in their fore- or afterwords that the stories they're writing are supported by Patreon. This isn't reddit.

Authors don’t use ‘u’ instead of ‘you,’ sweetie 🤭

The reason links to anywhere except pages on Literotica's servers are banned is because they don't want to have to police dead links, or links that — years down the road — point to very bad things, despite originally pointing to something acceptable. Whitehouse.com used to be a porn site. Once a domain lapses, anybody can get hold of it and do anything with it.

Anything else alluding to offsite work, or pointing to your profile which points to offsite work is forbidden in stories ( cue your parents' voice ) because they said so. It's not changing.

The reality is that if you have paid work linked from your bio, where it's allowed, anyone who would be motivated enough to fork over cash is going to be motivated enough to find it without a link or a check my bio for. The only people willing to pay for something they can get for free is huge fans, who are going to make the effort unprompted.

You have a point there. Indeed motivated fans will be willing to support their authors whether prompted or not.
Also, as per one of my previous posts in this thread, I am aware of phishing (that's what fake sites are called) and I do

To be fair, that’s not even in the top ten of reasons to think that. #1 is an inability to write coherently. Not a great trait for a would be author, TBH.
