Problems posting a submission

All,

I use Word 2010 and have a story ready to post. I submitted it with the file attached but changed a few things and asked that the submission be rejected. I've made the changes and this time when I resubmit it for review, I want to paste the text into the box on the submission dialog rather than attach a file.

Problem is, no matter what options I change in Word, when I paste the text the spaces between paragraphs disappear. I could go through and insert breaks in the box but that's a pain in the butt. Any suggestions?

First, how did you ask for the submission to be rejected? Email? Private message? Email won't get an answer, but a PM will.

Are you using hard breaks in Word? Or soft/line breaks? That might make a difference. I'd say it has to be something in your formatting. I use Word, and I use hard paragraph breaks (i.e., I hit enter twice) between graphs, and never have a problem pasting stuff in.

Hi, thanks for your input. You can probably help me a lot as it's been years since I posted a story and am not sure how to go about it. For one, I don't know how to send a message to the reviewer as I didn't receive any indication of who was looking at it or how I would get in contact with him/her. So, I resubmitted it on the "submissions" page and asked in the comments that the story not be published.

If you can help me out with the proper way to go about that I'll appreciate it...FWIW I indicated that it belongs in the "incest" category.

About formatting, I used a single return after paragraphs and will try your suggestion to see if that makes a difference.

Thanks again.

Over reacting

I think you are over reacting about the way it looks after pasting. I use Word also and copy and paste all my submissions. After looking at them in the preview after pasting they don't look anything like what they looked like on my computer, but DO after being approved and posted. I worried about the way they looked on the first few stories and tried to make them look like they'd looked on the computer but never was satisfied with their look. I finally hit submit and hoped for the best. Like I said, they looked fine when they posted.

But if you cut and paste into the box, you do have to provide two paragraph returns between paragraphs to keep the proper spacing.

That's what Zeb and PL have already said.

He was responding to something else. It's true that sometimes things don't look quite right in the box, or in the preview, but are fine in the finished product. But one of those things is NOT the absence of the two returns after a paragraph.

And now PennLady has said it again. It's worth saying until posts don't keep coming up not getting the point.

Or you can save as "dos with text and formatting". It will have a weird format name. Just change it to txt. When you cut and paste from this file, spacing is right, bold is right, italic is right.

A few steps involved but it works. I use it on several other sites that only have the cut and paste.

All, thanks for the helpful suggestions. Can anyone explain how I can directly contact the reviewer(s)? I want to ensure the old version doesn't get posted, and I don't see a link on the submission page that I can use to send a message to this effect. Thanks again.

Open the original submission via the "pending" link.

If I'm remembering correctly, the "Delete" button should be at the bottom right next to "Preview". That will remove the old version from the queue completely.

If you don't see it there, maybe it's after you click "Preview"

There's a delete button somewhere in there. I just don't remember exactly where.

You can send a Private Message [PM] to Laurel who is THE reviewer [Manu does the techie stuff].

Thanks tyro...can you share a link I can use to pm Laurel? Not sure how to find it.

The Private Message system at the top right of this page. (I think you have to have your own private messages turned on). The address is "Laurel."
